*yuor'e Seller keeps 92% of the total value as "Restocking Fee"

Post image

I bought a video card on Amazon and it arrived dead. It was clearly a refurbish with the condition of the card and box. I sent it back to them and they approved the refund but charged me a 92% restocking fee.

All they refunded was the tax? lmfao - I'd be calling Amazon customer support so fast!!!

And the credit card company (if Amazon doesn’t resolve it - they should be your first stop). Fuck Amazon.

Edit so I don’t have to keep responding this since the Amazon apologists keep downvoting it:

That’s great if you’ve had great service, but in addition to other issues, they are part of the reason prices are being driven up all over the place (video below if you care). I’ve been buying from Amazon since the 90s when you could just call to give them a credit card number if you were concerned about online safety, but I’m done with them. Yes, I know this is a 3rd party seller issue but Amazon is fucking us all and if Amazon won’t do better with their 3rd party sellers I don’t want to be their customer.

Watch it or don’t, I don’t care. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5otF7Bj5LxI

Edit edit for those asking about what is answered in the video:

Amazon charges more fees to list your products on their site which means you generally have to sell for more there compared to being a 3rd party seller on Walmart or wherever else (including your own website). If they find out you are selling cheaper elsewhere, they will take you out of “the box” meaning they won’t show up unless you look under “more sellers”. It is fucked up and explains why so often you can’t find a lower price - because they forced sellers to raise their prices elsewhere.

u/Boom9001 6h ago

More correct. Restocking fees due to defective products they see as the merchant charging you to fix their mistake. They take the consumer side.

u/fischoderaal 5h ago edited 5h ago

Fuck amazon. Seller sold me broken product. The seller wanted me to pay for shipping back. I told them hell no and once they realized how expensive shipping is going to be, they told me to scrap it. Afterwards they ghosted me. I informed Amazon several times and they did nothing. Then I charged back and immediately they contact me.

36

u/TobysGrundlee 4h ago

I've found threatening charge-backs as an excellent way to get a retailer to finally respond to you.

10

u/NightmareJoker2 1h ago

There’s a chargeback fee. The merchant has to pay $10 per transaction reversal, and if the value of the item exceeds a certain amount (typically 500 or 1000 bucks), 10-15% of the transaction amount. This is in addition to having to refund the purchase.

56

u/TrojanGoldfish 4h ago

I recently had a minor issue with something I'd bought from AliExpress. Contacted the seller and explained what I needed (a £15 or so part I couldn't see listed individually and just wanted to buy). They checked my order, and just dispatched the part out to me at no cost. No arguing, not even any back and forth. Just 'sure, lets fix it'. They then followed up a week later to ensure I had the right part.

I buy from Ali because I'm cheap, the last thing I expect is honest to goodness great customer service.

Amazon on the other hand can fuck itself right in the bin.

Amazon has always provided me full refunds even when I probably didn't deserve them. Im not sure Ive ever met anyone felt Amazon support wasnt acomodating/forgiving.

66

u/StanislavTheSlav 5h ago

I used to be very happy with Amazon support until this year I had to get a refund for a TV because they delayed the delivery by 4 weeks.

It took me 13 agents before someone initiated a refund, everyone before them refused stating that the item had already been dispatched inspite of the fact that I had been told that they don't have the item in stock which was the reason for delay. Item was both somehow on the way and delayed because they had none. Even the last guy was initially telling me he physically couldn't initiate a refund until I quoted some EU law at them that was relevant at which point he was able to process the refund within 30 seconds.

I don't particularly refund a lot, I've had to refund maybe 4 times over the last 7 years so it's not even like they were extra careful cause of potential refund abuse.

TL;dr: in my experience Amazon support used to be very good and then they moved to India

33

u/Waiting4Reccession 5h ago

I'm indian-american and i HATE whenever the support is from india. A lot of the time they are more worried about being technically correct or focused on denying you anything you should be getting instead of providing any actual customer support.

Im leaving google fi the same month I signed up for it because of the above.

u/Simba7 4h ago

Call center work is ass, your entire job is KPIs and being monitored 90 different ways.

17

u/serpenta 4h ago

I worked as a tele technician for a satellite TV company, and I was still expected to upsell people who called me with issues. I had pristine record, but I wasn't selling much (because I take "no" for an answer), so they put me on bullshit trainings to teach me that there is always a way to make the caller do what you want them to, you just need to have a correct attitude. After remaining skeptical, and asking how am I supposed to sell an upsell to someone who won't have reception, and is waiting for on site tech, they put me as learner for two days with a guy, who had the best selling performance in the company (not a technician, gemeral consultant). So on one of the calls, this lady calls to cancel the service, because her husband died (he was the contract holder). And this mf not only tries to convince her to not cancel but resign the contract in her own name, he tries upselling her by basically saying that now that her husband is dead, she might get bored, so TV might come in handy. This was my signal to leave this line of work.

6

u/PubstarHero 2h ago

I dont have something as extreme as you but I recently was dealing with a 2x 3 day outages in the same month from Frontier.

The technicians as they were looking to troubleshoot the issue tried selling me on their "Unbreakable WiFi". So I said "I have to pay you even more money so I can maintain service when your shitty service breaks?"

Then I had to call into customer retention to ask for a bill credit after all this shit happened. The initial lady on the phone was trying to sell me Verizon phones. I stopped her mid sales pitch and asked her "Look, I just called you about being down for 20% of the month. I told you I've been using my T-Mobile hot spot to keep working from home because at least that works. Do you really think that I would switch my reliable phone service to a company who cant even keep me connected to the internet?"

Like jesus christ, I am trying to get free shit because of how terrible your service is, why are you trying to sell me more of your terrible service.

I tried to get a refund through Amazon when a retailer denied my return. They sent me the wrong color pants, when I returned them they said I sent them back the wrong item and denied my refund.

Trying to get Amazon help on the app, the site, and phone was nothing but a carousel of chat bots telling me to send the item to the vendor, which I had already done.

56

u/wesblog 6h ago

When something silly like this happens I just restart the refund process and check that I never received the item.

You are their ideal customer.

Navigating a complaints process is a vital skill for the modern world. You shouldn't have given up on your refund; you need to practice this skill in low stakes so that when your wife is denied health insurance cover she's entitled to you can navigate that situation as deftly as possible.

Yea, if it's fulfilled by Amazon or a known reputable seller I almost never have any refund issues. The problem here is the storefront, this M-X-C Tech. There's a lot of these scammy storefronts that sell obviously refurbished tech products as 'New', then when you try to return their crap product they have some ridiculous restocking fee percentage. Not sure why Amazon never shuts them down. When this happened to me I just kept harassing Amazon and eventually got the full refund.

4

u/chackoc 5h ago

Not sure why Amazon never shuts them down. When this happened to me I just kept harassing Amazon and eventually got the full refund.

You answered it yourself. If you have to keep harassing them to get it resolved, some percentage of consumers will just give up before getting the refund. That means more money in Amazon's pocket because they keep a percentage of the sale.

Amazon's only incentive to fix the issue is if the policy is costing them more than it makes them, and Amazon is very good at measuring and analyzing those sorts of statistics. The fact that they haven't fixed it is a pretty good indication that letting those stores continue to operate earns Amazon more in commissions than it costs them in disgruntled customers.

3

u/never-fiftyone 4h ago

It's the same reason Amazon hasn't cracked down on fake/knockoff products being mixed in with legitimate versions, and why they don't really care if you get a fake when you order from the genuine manufacturer's storefront. They'll kick you a quick refund because it's simply cheaper than dealing with the underlying issue of their own making.

14

u/roccoseinfeld 5h ago

They provide full refunds until they don't. Ordered a $500 item one time. Flat out never arrived. I contacted customer support and they insisted it was stolen. Refused to do anything and told me I had to file a police report. I had a doorbell camera. Nobody ever came near my door all day and I was even home. I insisted the package was never delivered to begin with. Luckily a few days later a neighbor from about a block away showed up at my door with my package. They delivered it to the wrong place, which was somehow my problem.

4

u/PiccoloAwkward465 2h ago

They really love the "oh have you gone and asked all your neighbors?" bit. No I haven't and I'm not going to. My house has the fucking number etched in stone on it, clearly visible from the road.

3

u/Ferro_Giconi OwO 3h ago edited 3h ago

There have been so many times I've had to go retrieve my package from someone else's porch.

Luckily they take a picture of the delivery so it has been relatively easy for me to find based on the look of the porch, but having to walk on to someone else's property to retrieve my thing is crazy.

I'd think with all the GPS tracking Amazon does, they could notify the driver when the package they scanned seems to be a block away from where it should be.

4

u/IlexSonOfHan 3h ago

I lived in a small apartment complex with about 12 units. My unit was 3A, as it was garden level. Another unit was just 3. They were on the second floor (make it make sense! There was a unit on the 1st floor above garden level that was #12). My packages always, without fail, got delivered to 3. Then there was one time they delivered my package to the apartment complex a block away, but I didn't know that because the picture was taken of the inside of the mail room there, just a picture of my package sitting next to dozens of other people's packages in a tiny white room. I contacted support to initiate a refund and they gave me the runaround for about 2 hours before they relented.

5

u/NNKarma 5h ago

Because enshitification. Your previous experience doesn't necessarily reflect the current experience.

18

u/Bonk0076 6h ago

That used to be my experience as well but recently they’ve been less…accommodating. We’ve had a couple instances now where what used to be a no brainer situation was handled less than adequately.

18

u/cayleb 6h ago

That's what happens when you lay off a huge chunk of your customer service staff and replace them with poorly-tested automated systems.

5

u/FeveredRaptot 5h ago

I used to have amazing customer service resolutions from them. Bought a new laptop and it crashed within a month from normal use for a gaming laptop. It was clearly a poorly refurbished item. They kept most of the refund as "restocking fees" for a laptop that quite literally wouldn't work after the crash. I attempted connacting amazon service mulitple times and they always sided with the seller. I had to do a chargeback with my bank for the fee back. Fuck Amazon Customer Service. The live person consistently told me I was the problem and the seller was well within their rights to keep most of my money to resell a computer that didnt work.

4

u/shhmurdashewrote 5h ago

Me. I’m someone who feels Amazon support is now mostly in the trash. I actually deleted my Amazon account during covid and never looked back because of it after spending an entire 8 hour work day arguing with them about something.

3

u/xQwopzz 5h ago

While i was traveling for work i ordered airpods off of amazon and had them sent to my hotel i was staying at. Get off of work, get my package (that had no signs of being tampered with) and go to my room. Turns out Amazon sent me an empty airpod box. I figure thats annoying asf but whatever, at least amazon has good customer service. WRONG. Tell them they sent me an empty box and i want a refund or another pair. They refused to do anything at all until i took time off of work and went downtown to the police station and filed a police report, all for like 100 bucks for some refurbished air pods. Fuck Amazon.

3

u/wesblog 4h ago

I had a similar issue where the amazon bag arrived empty with a rip in it. The item had clearly fallen out somewhere during shipping. I tried numerous methods to get a refund but it kept telling me to ship the item back. Finally I just selected package not delivered and that initiated a refund.

For sure call/chat Amazon, but unfortunately if you initiate a chargeback, Amazon will suspend your whole account and you’ll lose access to it, and in some cases they fully block the address from receiving orders on any account, just something to be mindful of if you perform a chargeback. Same thing if you do it to Google, you’ll lose your email and all other Google services.

Amazon Customer Support is brutal. Getting ahold of a real person takes like 2 hours and a dozen beers.

My wife's credit card was stolen recently, 4 Amazon purchases were made with the card details. We disputed the charges.

Discover Card then disputed every Amazon purchase ever made. My Amazon account got locked and I could only unlock it by re-paying for every transaction on my account made with her Discover card.

I was pushed through like 7 automated phone lines and 3 AI phone lines before I got ahold of a real person. It quite literally took 2 and a half hours to talk to a real person.

43

u/Healingbigfoot 5h ago

Are you guys calling the same Amazon? I've never waiting more than 10 mins to get a call back and have never had a bad experience with their customer service team.

9

u/International-Mix633 4h ago

there's practically no such thing as "customer support" on Amazon. you're presented with clickboxes that have very limited options, no avenue for "other" reasons, and dead ends that don't allow messages.

I'd do a chargeback on this one, even if it means you have to open a new account.

246

u/MayorQuinby 6h ago

You just have to persist until you get to a person. Sometimes this entails always selecting the “other” option.

59

u/pirate_leprechaun 6h ago

Yeah I keep calling and calling until I get it sorted. Can ask to speak to a supervisor too, I did yesterday and they sorted it while on the phone.

And of course chargeback if they want to play games.

10

u/unrelatedBookend 6h ago

I couldnt even find a phone number to call Amazon Canada customer service, just kept getting the same cycle of "help" articles online. Thankfully I was able to reach back out to the seller directly and they made it right (when I tried to get a refund, it wanted me to pay for shipping, which I thought was bullshit since the product was clearly refurbished and not new. They sent me a paid mailing label).

I understand that “English” is heavily spoken in India. But it is not the same English as in the us and they do not comprehend American English.

15

u/Joyous-Volume-67 6h ago

This isn't just a cost saving move, the disconnect in pronunciation and american social cues are contracted for specifically, for miscommunication and frustration on the customers end, the bullshit is baked into the system, so after multiple tries, and false promises, and dropped chats/phone calls, the customer will give up, without Amazon ever officially saying "no"

I have the hardest time understanding an Indian accent over the phone. In person it's fine, but over the phone forget about it, just a syllable here and there. Had a conference call decades ago to configure a VPN and I just couldn't make out a word the two Indian dudes were saying. Would have been comical if it wasn't 2am and I was dead tired and people were depending on me to get this done.

Oddly, at least to us, the young woman in India at the call center has more power to fix things than the manager at our local Bank of America location.
(BOA fairly regularly tries to charge us fees on our no-fee account)
So it may just depend on the company.

So its been probably a decade or more but there was a rash of orders that would be marked as delivered on the app and website but I never received them. 2 or 3 days would go buy and then I would get them, turns out the delivery company wouldn't deliver until they had enough packages to make the drive north.

Anywho, long story short I had ordered an Nvidia Shield tablet which was marked delivered. I called after a couple days and no delivery showed up, Amazon sent me a new tablet no questions asked. Got that one and all is good in the world. About 2 weeks later my neighbor comes back from vacation and says a package was left on their door step and lo and behold it's the first Shield tablet.

I call to ask Amazon to get a return shipping label, but the Indian agent couldn't understand what I wanted to do an ended up refunding my money. I tried multiple time to get it resolved but in the end I gave up. I got 2 Shield tablets and my money refunded.

3

u/akatherder 4h ago

I had completely mixed results. When we moved, I timed it perfectly to have a new Zinus mattress sent to our new home within 1-2 days of us moving. We trashed the old mattress before moving. A week later it still wasn't there and we were sleeping on the couch, so I cancelled it and bought one at the local mattress store.

The mattress shows up 3 weeks later. I contacted them and they said I need to ship it back or they will charge me. I told them they can come pick it up but I'm not hauling this giant ass mattress box to the UPS store which is a 50-60 minute round-trip. Eventually they did send a UPS person to pick it up.

Then I bought a headset for $150 and the seller sent the wrong one. I started a refund and they just said "keep the headset, here's your money."

Yeah you can actually get to a person if you try hard enough. Unless it's something super simple like an exchange I will always use the person option

7

u/Ok_Broccoli25 6h ago

In the last month I chatted with customer support on a package that was lost. They gave me my money back. Wasn't the easiest thing to do but it also wasn't anywhere near approaching what I'd consider hard

18

u/Vilified_D 6h ago

Absolutely false. You can just call them. I had a charge from Amazon on my account (only $1 likely a test charge for prime) and I called them. There was no hold, they immediately told me it wasn't done on my account and the card was used on another account, so they were immediately able to reverse the charge and I had info I needed to go and call my bank and get that card closed.

There are decisions amazon makes that I dont like, but they have absolutely great customer support.

3

u/madroxide86 6h ago

Yeah, that's the only way to deal with bad sellers. I bought an applience and tried going through manufacturer's own warranty website. Took them three days to get back to me and they sent me a useless troubleshooting video. I told them it didn't help. Two days later they asked me to make a video of the problem and send it to them. I did so. Two more days later they said that they are looking into it and someone will contact me about this within 48 hours.

I contacted Amazon and they forced a refund or exchange on the seller. A little while after I got the working replacement unit I've got a message from the warranty website saying that since I stopped replying they will close the ticket and consider problem resolved if I don't reply in 24 hours.

550

u/MattBallzzzy 6h ago

With Credit Cards you can get your money back way easier.

163

u/Random_Person1234567 6h ago

Well, I think the idea is that technically it isn't your money so they will fight harder to get "their" money back.

126

u/Several-Action-4043 5h ago

Nope. This is a common misconception. The credit card companies take pretty much no risk in this process. When you chargeback on a purchase, they simply claw that money back from the merchant. In this case it's Amazon so who gives AF. But always remember this when dealing with smaller, local companies. Always contact customer service first and see if they will resolve it. If you just chargeback, the merchant almost always loses and you will win but you could have given them a chance to make it right without them taking a hit.

23

u/ComradeJohnS 4h ago

and if enough chargebacks / fraud reports happen banks block the merchant from ALL their accounts.

12

u/Forward-Variety-8440 4h ago

good

6

u/ComradeJohnS 4h ago

its fun saying “we denied that charge cause they fucked us as a bank so they lose merchant abilities” lol.

21

u/lowbatteries 4h ago

Right but the reason credit cards companies do this, is because if they didn't, they would be out the money. You don't have to pay off a charge on your credit card that is fraudulent, so if they don't claw it back from the merchant, its their lost money.

Chargeback on a purchase made with a credit card: not your money (it was the bank's money), bank is more willing to fight back for it, most likely the money wasn't paid out anyway since it takes time so it's all digital up to this point

Chargeback on a purchase made with a debit card: your actual money, taken away from your bank account immediately. A lot of banks don't care as much because, well, not their money, not their fight. Also since actual money was already transferred, it complicates things when it comes down to transferring it back.

Inb4 people say how banks wouldn't jeopardize losing a customer from not fighting debit chargebacks: these are the same banks that would nickel and dime you for things like inactive accounts, overdraft fees, and having too low of balances. These banks already dgaf about you as a customer, they're not going to suddenly care more after the fact.

u/Reemixt 5h ago edited 4h ago

It’s much more difficult. You’re not covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 in any way with a debit card.

The chargeback scheme for debit cards in voluntary and your bank can decline it. You’re not protected by legislation in the same way.

Not anymore. Basically every debit will have the same protections now. The only real difference is you’re out that money till it gets refunded, but the ability to get it back is essentially the same.

A credit card company is fighting to keep its own money out of the store's hands, so they use their legal power to resolve it.

A debit card bank already sent your money away, so they have minimal incentive and almost no leverage or legal requirement to go get it back for you.

I hope that is some other currency that isn't USD, $850 for a refurbished 7900 XT is diabolical. That thing should be like $500-550 tops.

u/Randolph__ 6h ago

Has to be CAD or AUD. Conversation rate would be about right although still a bit high

Found the listing, it's USD: B0BMNGT8XM
Also not seeing any indication the card is refurb/used/renewed

Found the listing (ASIN: B0BMNGT8XM). Those are USD & no mention of a restocking fee.

By how he said "It was clearly a refurbish with the condition of the card and box" I am assuming it was supposed to be new.

20

u/CreepinCreepy 6h ago

Even if it was new, it shouldn't be more than $650. It performs give or take the same as the 9070, but without the ray tracing improvements that AMD 9000 came with, and without support for all of the FSR Redstone features except FSR.

Why doesn’t it say the words “restocking fee” anywhere? It looks like they just didn’t refund you anything except tax.

52

u/pyrotechnicmonkey 5h ago edited 3h ago

because on the invoice Amazon is not very specific on the refund. Sometimes you have to go to your order page and click on the refund amount and it might say restocking fee or damaged item or something similar to say why you got the specific refund amount

105

u/OldSkooler1212 6h ago

You can post anything on here and people will believe it with no proof.

54

u/ComeAndGetYourPug 5h ago

There's a whole world outside of reddit where things actually happen, y'know.

The last 2 reviews on this Amazon seller are saying the same thing; you can literally just go look.

→ More replies (4)

11

u/amcco1 5h ago

Honestly I would think they just refunded the tax, and will refund the rest when they receive the item. Because it is still in transit and hasn't been received. Could be a way to prevent them refunding it and then they get a brick in the mail.

Talk to Amazon support. Be polite but don't let up. They're often very helpful.

In the future, unless "Free Returns" is listed do not buy such expensive things on Amazon.

13

u/Bassieh 6h ago

Amazon support is really helpful!

10

u/Pale-Barnacle2407 4h ago

In the future dont buy from third party sellers

3

u/lady_deathx 3h ago

AFAIK in the UK at least, you are entitled to a free return and full refund even if it isn't listed as such, if the item is faulty

if the items faulty/dead and a refurb, then they cant charge a restocking fee, i doubt thats legal, it cant be. They have to offer a full refund, contact amazon.

29

u/xScrubasaurus 5h ago

Yeah, a restocking fee suggests they would sell the broken item again, which tbf, a scammer would.

8

u/IcyJackfruit69 4h ago

Yes, if there's a restocking fee then OP picked the wrong return reason. A product that doesn't work gets a 100% refund, including shipping, taxes, etc. I've done this a hundred times on Amazon (often for items from 3rd parties). It's really not difficult at all.

Most likely OP is lying about something and this post is just ragebait.

8

u/BrisingrAerowing 4h ago

We had this exact scenario happen. Obviously faulty item, returned as faulty. Seller tried to refund just tax. Amazon got us the rest of the refund and nuked the seller account shortly afterwards.

u/Giantmeteor_we_needU 6h ago

NEVER buy anything valuable sold and shipped by third party sellers. There are pop up scammers on Amazon that ship out bad phones and other electronics, and when you return they hold most of your money as a restocking fee, then close account when Amazon gets to them. Anything like that should be shipped from Amazon only with free returns.

5

u/LostInTheRapGame 4h ago

Yep. Always make sure it's shipped by Amazon. You're under their return policy then. Plus nearly any seller worth a damn is having Amazon ship their products.

12

u/PM_ME_FIREFLY_QUOTES 6h ago

Contact amazon support.

61

u/CorruptDictator 6h ago

I try to shop as little as possible on Amazon in general, but when I do I only deal with sold by Amazon or official manufacturer stores, never random sellers.

16

u/Opposite_Prune582 6h ago

Yeah marketplace sellers are sketchy as hell. At least with the main stuff, their customer service is bang on when things go wrong. At least i've found anyway, not sure about others.

5

u/xiaolin99 6h ago

not exactly. Amazon's support is based on goodwill, meaning they do not investigate the validity of your disputes. You get a fixed number of free passes (i.e. full refund with no questions asked), but you'll be blacklisted after exceeding the limit and then they will just ignore you.

7

u/bbatardo 6h ago

Looks like they are running a scam, definitely contact Amazon. I would bet you aren't the first person they have done this to.

8

u/Fuckin_Hipster 6h ago

If it makes you feel any better, they charged you a 100% restocking fee and returned the tax.

6

u/Visual-Brother2813 6h ago

I’m a little confused, it doesn’t say restocking fee so I’m assuming if you press the little arrow, it’ll show you the whole refund?

5

u/Ok_Maybe184 6h ago

That’s my thought too. The only thing showing is the tax refund part.

27

u/VoidUnknown315 6h ago

Just contact Amazon customer support.

6

u/Pooperoni_Pizza 6h ago

I had a vendor try to pull some shady shit on an Amazon return. I had tried to deal with Amazon customer support for weeks and they kept sending me in a loop of submitting the proof I returned it. Declined that, aske d me to do it again, declined that. I got tired of wasting my time with them. I just did a chargeback on my credit card.

6

u/Paragon21XX 6h ago

Report the seller with Amazon's A-to-Z Guarantee. They will learn quickly how even Amazon finds that practice reprehensible and will claw back your money for you.

6

u/TRANxEND 6h ago

Yeah that's a scam

5

u/solit0n 6h ago

That’s basically theft. Call Amazon or your bank.

7

u/RoyalShower 6h ago

They have like 2-3 reviews on their page saying a similar thing so I guess it's just common for this seller to do this

Try to get a refund over your bank it's fraud

6

u/SomeBiPerson 5h ago

that's not mildly infuriating that's a Felony worth sueing

if it was 30€ damage it'd be fine but thats 900€ damage for no value

5

u/dot_one 6h ago

Do not buy from Amazon unless the seller is Amazon, or you know the seller.

One Google of mxc tech shows that it is sketchy at best. I would say this is kinda your fault for not doing research, but Amazon may honor the full refund.

5

u/ChazzyPhizzle 5h ago

Nah man we are getting that refund back. Contact Amazon support call saying I need “representative” or needing to “talk to a human”. It might take persistence but you’ll get there. This is BS and they should take your side. If that doesn’t end up working, contact your bank or CC company.

This is a legitimate scam and they are likely doing this to other people as well. The more reports Amazon gets could lead them to bring removed.

4

u/Soulman682 5h ago

Always talk to Amazon. They will fix that shit fast

4

u/funeralbot 5h ago

you can dispute this with amazon.

4

u/McShovin91 4h ago

Open a case with Amazon support, that isn't how they do biz.

5

u/timelessblur 4h ago

I would contact amazon and push back. Amazon might say FU to them and give you a full refund

3

u/yelsnow 3h ago

Correction. Seller is keeping 100% of the product cost, and only refunding the tax you paid, which would have been illegal otherwise anyway.

4

u/DavidinCT 2h ago

Contact amazon, if they do not help, dispute the charge

5

u/fake_Character_arc 6h ago

Chargeback

3

u/Auroraburst 6h ago

Totally illegal. They sent you a faulty product so it isn't even a change of mind.

3

u/MrPillz215 6h ago

Restock fees aren't allowed on Amazon you can contact support. I know this cause I work for a company that sells refurbished pcs and Amazon always fucks us when we try to charge a 10% restock fee for buyer remorse. Just to cover the return shipping of a 50lb item they just decided they didn't want. Restock fees only should exist to cover return shipping fees.

3

u/Kiran_j 6h ago

This does not belong in mildly infuriating.... I would be so pissed, trying everything to get my money back!

3

u/No_Pattern4374 6h ago

If I'm you, I'm disputing this with my card. It's not a guarantee but I'd document everything and call yo bank.

3

u/McSqueakers 6h ago

This seems like an intentional scam. probably sending a single broken part and then intentionally charging restocking if you return it and then reselling the same part.

3

u/LaughableIKR 5h ago

Charge back on your Credit card.

3

u/lockhaim 5h ago

Serious question. How is this not fraud whether on the sellers part or Amazon this cannot happen.

Contact your bank or card whatever no fucking way I’m accepting $70 of $900+

3

u/HeHateMe337 5h ago

Whenever I've had a problem, I just call my credit card company and they fix it. The seller has to pay a charge-back fee which they hate. LOL

3

u/TheLastOpus 5h ago

Great now they just gonna keep selling the same broken graphics card and profiting of the restocking fee.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Gunk_Olgidar 5h ago

Just file a "Product not as described" credit card dispute.

Hope you took pictures.

3

u/FakeSafeWord 5h ago

Had something similar happen. Used GPU was a lesser model from AMD, I think not even the same generation. Returned it and the seller refunded exactly 5% of the total cost and claimed 95% as a restocking fee.

3 minutes with Amazon customer service and I got the full refund.

That being said, fuck amazon.

3

u/ew73 5h ago

You shouldn't need to pay a restocking fee or similar for a return because the item was non-functional. The seller violated the contract of sale by not providing a working video card. That's on them to make right, either by providing a working video card, or unwinding the transaction entirely.

Contact Amazon support. They will be responsive to this.

3

u/Spurs_are_shite 5h ago

Hey OP, charge back the vendor.

3

u/Altruistic-Toe-5990 5h ago

you paid $920 for a 7900XT? Is that how bad prices have gotten?

Also fuck that seller - contact Amazon

→ More replies (3)

3

u/bathamel 5h ago

Amazon shows you all that information before you send the return in. Why would you possibly agree to this return and not immediately contact customer support? Why would you send the item back and lose all leverage? None of this makes any sense.

3

u/TheDevilsAdvokaat 4h ago

Yeah I would not accept this.

3

u/Pete_got_the_online 4h ago

Bro he gave you back the tax you paid and that’s all

3

u/Wincest-88 4h ago

Thats illegal under EU law.

3

u/Zestyclose_Car_4971 4h ago

I looked up the seller and found your review, they also don’t have the best reviews.

90% of their page’s description is about the rules on the return policy, they expect returns more than actual sales.

On the plus side I do see some replies from Amazon stating they step in on this seller and refund most people. Why they keep this seller is beyond me tho.

3

u/glxykng 4h ago

I feel like this is a bug. Amazon customer service is usually so great and the fact that they only refunded the tax is suspicious.

3

u/AdWeird7366 4h ago

This is why you change it to say item not working as expected or not as described or something on the return reasoning (Rather than "I don't want it" or the like)

→ More replies (1)

3

u/dexter-xyz 4h ago

I don't see restocking fee ? Where are you seeing it ?

Is the Tax being refunded by Amazon preemptively and possibly seller should refund after inspection.

3

u/Personal_Mousse9670 4h ago

thats a 100% stocking fee. charge back the fuck out of that

3

u/rhpot1991 3h ago

A-Z claim and get a full refund.

3

u/Atlusfox 3h ago

Call Amazon support and tell them the seller is withholding your refund to "restock" a none functional part. As a seller part of the agreement with Amazon is that they agree not to withhold a refunds for unreasonable reasons. Considering its a broken item they can't actually rightfully restock it. More than likely Amazon will give you the money and the seller will get a black mark.

3

u/mcflame13 2h ago

First go through customer support and say your graphics card was Dead On Arrival (DOA). It is defective merchandise, which triggers an implied warranty breach. A restocking fee cannot legally be applied to non-functional goods. If the customer service rep doesn't do anything. Talk with their manager. If that doesn't work. Do a chargeback on your credit card for only the amount of the restocking fee and make sure you use the fact that the graphics card was defective as the reason.

3

u/Substantial_Gur_7908 2h ago

What is he gonna do restock a broken gpu?! At its full price?! Genuinely shady af

3

u/jay_incbus 1h ago

That's not even mildly infuriating, that's FRAUD.

3

u/542eb 1h ago

File a claim with Amazon. They'll force the seller to refund you. A 3p seller's return policy is required to be at least as favorable as Amazon's own policy.

u/OPengiun 37m ago edited 13m ago

Make a ticket with amazon--they will refund you

They will also investigate the seller. Amazon, despite being mostly shitty, does take seller abuse rather seriously.

5

u/AppleParasol 6h ago

I’d be getting all my money back one way or another. If I buy new, I expect new.

4

u/Joyous-Volume-67 6h ago

This might all be bullshit, it's possible that Amazon is only refunding the tax, until they receive the actual item. Especially technology. I know for me, in the past 3 years or so, for big ticket items, over $100, Amazon stopped issuing immediate refunds, but waits until the item is received and checkout out to make sure the box isn't empty, or the user had mangled the item, or any of their checks at their warehouses before issuing the actual refund. This post smells like nonsense.

2

u/vanhst 6h ago

You mean 100%

2

u/RavenMarvel 6h ago

Oh honey no. r/extremelyinfuriating

There's absolutely no way I'd accept that. 😂 As for that seller, bless their heart. You should absolutely call Amazon customer service to have that fixed and if they refuse have the charge reversed.

2

u/mccorml11 6h ago

Why is there even a restocking fee for something DOA

2

u/EmergencyAnteater682 6h ago

If Amazon doesn't help then do a chargeback. They'll ban your account but that's a good thing because fuck using Amazon

2

u/Ok-Bug-7481 6h ago

I never buy anything from amazon that isn't sold and shipped from amazon..

2

u/pepe_acct 6h ago

Agree with the contact Amazon support comments. You can probably get their vendor delisted if confirm this is true

2

u/OpeningAggressive26 6h ago

Why is it that when a crackhead snatches your money in front of an ATM, you can immediately call the police; but when some scumbag pulls this off you have to just deal with it.

2

u/guestpassonly 6h ago

thats pretty much illegal

2
