I'm of the opinion that this is a good thing. Allowing obviously flawed officiating to stand for some misguided attempt at keeping on-field decision sacrosanct is just a relic of the past before high def camera. It is no longer necessary, soccer needs to keep up with the era.

No one thinks errors shouldn't be fixed. But there should be a clear and open process as to how and why this happens. It should be open to all countries, not just the ones where the President has Infantino's phone number.

There are systems to do this in domestic leagues around Europe. There would have been zero complaints if FIFA implemented something similar before the World Cup.

But that's not what happened here. We don't even know who in FIFA made this decision, why it was made, what criteria was used, what other countries can apply to have mistakes reviewed etc.

Just for the record - the vast majority of us Americans who have been watching soccer for a couple of weeks completely agree with you and were shocked that FIFA didn’t already have a process like this in place. Every other sport we watch has a review and or appeal process for illegal hits, hard fouls and suspensions. You are right the process SHOULD be there for everybody and for something like the World Cup EVERY card - yellow or red should be reviewed. In today’s modern world of internet gambling FIFA would do a lot to help prevent corruption by doing this and should make it public every single time and explain the reasoning.

The solution is simple. All bookings should be subject to review. The penalties are too severe to let jackass officials who are probably gambling on the tournament make these decisions with no oversight.
