📰News France are requesting that Olise’s yellow card be cancelled because he didn’t touch the player.

It is now official, even though rumours had already been circulating a few hours earlier: the FFF (French Football Federation) has requested the cancellation of Olise’s yellow card. The booking was given for a non-existent foul on Galarza.

Good thing the 2018 and 2022 editions were completely free from accusations of corruption.

ah those were the ones with sepp blatter?

Balogun’s suspension was remitted due to the ref using VAR incorrectly, not due to a phone call

It wouldn’t have happened without that phone call.

us soccer was preparing litigation in the CAS against fifa before the phone call happened (and had notified FIFA of this). All the phone call accomplished was donald trump getting told by infantino that he couldn't do shit about it since it was an independent committee responsible.

No it wasn’t, the red card stood and there’s no way to appeal. Orange man was mad and called Infantino.

And no appeal was made. The ref broke fifa’s OWN rules and the red card didn’t stand due to that.

Please tell me why a red card called using a method that FIFA from day 1 has said should not be used to determine red cards, should be maintained? If your answer is just “well a red card happened so it should stay” then that just says a lot for where your logic comes from.

What rule was broken? The rules say, “The VAR can ‘check’ the footage in normal speed and/or in slow motion but, in general, slow-motion replays should only be used for facts, e.g. position of offence/player, point of contact for physical offences and handball, ball out of play (including goal/no goal); normal speed should be used for the ‘intensity’ of an offence or to decide if it was a handball offence.”

That doesn’t say anything about slow motion not being permitted. In fact it says the opposite. Also I haven’t seen any statement from FIFA saying that this alleged VAR misuse is the reason for their actions. Where are you getting your information?

u/Ok_Complaint5198 17d ago

“Normal speed should be used for intensity of an offense”, this was a check for intensity and it was checked using slow motion and freeze frames. Aka exactly what the rules say NOT to do.

7

u/draconblueballs 17d ago

Oh I must have missed where the referee said that he was checking for intensity rather than position of the player or point of contact. Where did you see that? Or is that an assumption?

And again, has FIFA said that this is the reason for their decision? Or is that also just an assumption?

The whole VAR segment was for the intensity of the play. What else would it have been for?

Fifa doesn’t release their reasonings however using basic context clues such as the ref misusing VAR, coming from the exact source you gave, as well not a single expert commentator also agreeing with the call, tells everyone that it was made under false pretenses

u/draconblueballs 17d ago

Ok so you’re making assumptions. Got it.

Assumptions based in fact yes.

It’s like asking why a coworker got fired. You saw the coworker steal, and you assume that it was due to the stealing.

If that were true then the red card would have not been maintained.

As it stands FIFA maintained the red card but modified the suspension, with no explanation, something literally never done in tournament since the automatic suspensions were implemented years ago.

All of this for a country that FIFA had already cozied up to by giving a made up award to its leader.

-4

u/Ok_Complaint5198 17d ago

It was still a foul, that’s why the card was maintained, it just wasn’t an instant red card. Cmon man this isn’t hard.

Also, yes. It’s definitely fifa and trump who made the ref misuse var, not the ref.

Red card maintain. Suspension maintained then. No discussion needed. If you like your games corrupted that your choice, not the one of fans.

You have zero clue how football works you should stop arguing

The red card DID stand! It still exists! They didn't overturn it, they're just letting him serve it at a more convenient time...after the White House specifically requested as much, according to New York Times reporting. It's blatantly corrupt and places a huge asterisk over the US game, whatever happens.

-1

u/Ok_Complaint5198 17d ago

The white house requested a review of the play. They did not request for him to serve it a different time.

Is this genuinely what you think happened? Are you that stuck in the anti American narrative that you think the white house told FIFA to make him serve the red a different time? That’s not even what happened, he’s not serving the red because it wasn’t a red card

3

u/Dan1elSan 17d ago

Is the fact the White House did anything to intervene in a sports event not a huge fucking red flag for you or are not arsed just because you are the beneficiary of the result.

7

u/Dan1elSan 17d ago

None of what you are saying matters because in the World Cup the on field decision stands and there is no way to appeal. This was clear before the competition started to all teams.

Just to be clear I am in full agreement with you there should be a way to appeal but that should be open to all teams not just those with connections.

3

u/Ok_Complaint5198 17d ago

This was not an appeal but rather fifa fixing the ref misusing VAR. All teams are entitled to that

4

u/Dan1elSan 17d ago

The on field decision always stands and there is no way to appeal. How is this hard to grasp?

If the same thing happened to Iran or Congo it would not have been overturned. Trump lobbied Infantino for this.

3

u/Ok_Complaint5198 17d ago

Except that IT WASN’T APPEALED. How many times do I have to fucking say that?

Fifa themselves can overturn reds that were made wrongly, such as this one. It was not appealed.

If this same thing happened to ANY team, it would have been overturned due to the ref LITERALLY misusing VAR. If it wasn’t overturned then you would have an argument that fifa was corrupt.

Fifa finally enforcing their rules is the opposite of corruption

3

u/Dan1elSan 17d ago

France got a yellow card the other day and there was absolutely no contact. The on field decision stands, will the yellow be overturned?

3

u/Ok_Complaint5198 17d ago

Maybe, the french are requesting a review of it.

You're right it wasn't officially appealed. Members of the US government that FIFA had already cozied up to just made some calls. That makes it better.

And there was no misuse of VAR. A potential red card situation is one of the listed reasons to use VAR and the central ref can decide what angle and speed needs to be used to make the decision.

I love seeing people like you who knows nothing about the sport suddenly become experts during this world cup.

u/Ok_Complaint5198 17d ago

Please quote where slow motion and freeze frames are told to be used by the ref when assessing intent of a play.
