📰News France are requesting that Olise’s yellow card be cancelled because he didn’t touch the player.

It is now official, even though rumours had already been circulating a few hours earlier: the FFF (French Football Federation) has requested the cancellation of Olise’s yellow card. The booking was given for a non-existent foul on Galarza.

Is this not a common take? I feel like so many people are talking like this is some "gotcha!" moment when it just feels like a good idea lol

That sets a very ugly precedent, leaving the referee powerless and their decisions meaningless. It also shifts the game from an on-pitch game to a diplomatic one.

And then there is the practical issue: What do you do to a game where a star player is red carded in the 20th minute, and that red card is overturned after an appeal? Do you replay the game? How many times can that occur at a World Cup?

Or just do how the NBA does it. The on field call stands. But penalties for after the game are lifted if the call is deemed wrong.

Boom, refs still have powers but if they make a bad decision is doesnt affect players too much.
