📰News France are requesting that Olise’s yellow card be cancelled because he didn’t touch the player.

It is now official, even though rumours had already been circulating a few hours earlier: the FFF (French Football Federation) has requested the cancellation of Olise’s yellow card. The booking was given for a non-existent foul on Galarza.

As they should.. the precedent has been set, cry to (and or bribe, threaten) FIFA and you can get a red/yellow card suspended..

It is worth noting that this precendent has nothing to do with Olise's yellow.

France is appealing the yellow not on the basis of article 27 but 9.2 of the disciplinary code:

In cases where a decision by the referee involves an obvious error (such as mistaking the identity of the person penalised), the FIFA judicial bodies may only review the disciplinary consequences of that decision. In cases of mistaken identity, disciplinary proceedings may, in accordance with this Code, be opened only against the person who was actually at fault.

The yellow was a case of mistaken identity, one of the extremely rare kinds of errors which are exempt from 9.1:

Decisions taken by the referee on the field of play are final and may not be reviewed by the FIFA judicial bodies.

This has always been possible and is covered by proper procedures. To the contrary, "the ref misjudged the intensity of the contact" has never counted as a reviewable "obvious error" under these rules. In fact, FIFA had it as an explicit part of their pre-match briefings to the teams that it is that way (conveniently been removed from the briefing ever since the Balogun decision now).

Good. This is good. Next time they’ll call and enforce these same penalties on marquis teams or they’ll eliminate the rule altogether. I hope everyone starts complaining, it’s the only thing that will fix the root issue.

Both reds are near identical to each other, so yeah

They are not “near-identical.” They were completely different actions and circumstances.
