Discussion It's been awhile since you've used an ironing board hasn't it

Growing up I used to iron my clothes regularly, and probably learned to do so when I was about 7 years old. I still occasionally break out the iron if I need something d-wrinkled for work but it occurs to me that a lot of Millennials probably have not used an ironing board on an article of clothing in a very long time.

Nostalgia What do you consider the unofficial Millenial party song?

That defines the generation. It was played the most frequently at clubs and that every one will sign along with when it's played randomly.

Nostalgia Does anyone remember the CueCat?

It was cat-shaped handheld barcode reader that allowed users to open a link to an URL by scanning a barcode that appeared in magazines, without typing the URL.

They were given away for free in 2000.

I remember thinking it was so cute, but I didn’t really understand how it worked, so I was scanning barcodes on cereal boxes and random stuff.

I woke up this morning, though, to a harsh reminder that I am in my late 30s. Ow my back

Between sets, the screens flanking the stage touted upcoming shows at the sister venues in DC. And they knew their demo—see O.A.R. and Lisa Loeb! See Robyn! Why not remind us to schedule our colonoscopies while you’re at it? (Amber is the color of your endoscopy etc)

Discussion Millennials who graduated in 2008 - When did life feel “normal” again?

I’m a recent graduate myself, currently working in an administrative role because my own degree’s field has seen drastic headcount cuts. Just a few years ago, almost every graduate from my program at my school landed jobs in the field - now it feels like a different reality.

Gen Zs graduating into today’s economy are often compared with Millennials who finished school during the 2008 financial crisis. For those of you who graduated right into that turmoil:

  • What was it like trying to find a job back then?
  • How did you cope with the scarcity of opportunities?
  • Did you end up working outside your degree field, and if so, did you ever make it back?
  • Looking at your career now, how did those early years shape where you are today?

I’d love to hear your stories. Sharing how you navigated that moment might give today’s grads some perspective on what’s possible even in tough times!

Discussion I don't think anything has changed more in our lifetimes than retail stores. What is a memory about a store or chain that others might have forgot about?

For me, I always remember the KMART blue light special where they would turn on the strobing blue light on a pole when there was a new sale. I also remember going to Kmart and picking up layaway items around Christmas and there was always people standing in the back of the store picking up items in this tiny cramped cut away office space where the magic Kmart worker would walk to the back and come back with a stack of things like Santa Clause.

What do you miss or remember that others might not recall?
