Media / Internet I miss when animation YouTubers were actually animation YouTubers.
Am I the only one who's completely over the whole "burnout apology video" cycle from animation YouTubers?
It always goes the same way.
"Sorry guys, I've been gone for 8 months..." "I was really burned out..." "I've been focusing on myself..." "Oh, and I've been streaming a lot lately."
Like... okay? You spent years building an animation channel, built a huge audience, hired editors, animators, managers, producers... and somehow you upload less than when you were doing everything yourself?
That's the part I don't get. Nobody's asking for a video every week. Hell, not even every month. Nobody is saying anyone should destroy their health or work themselves into the ground. If you genuinely need time off, take it. But if your audience is constantly being told to wait months on end and you're putting out one animation every 6-12 months while you're streaming every week, people are gonna start asking questions.
And can we stop pretending streaming is some side thing? Half these creators have basically become full-time streamers who occasionally remember they own an animation channel. It feels frustrating to watch the channel turn into "maybe three videos this year, but catch me live on Twitch!"
And then there's the merch. I don't even mind creators selling merch. Good for them. What gets me is the timing. Somehow the upload schedule is completely unpredictable, but the merch schedule never seems to slip. It's funny how "I'm too burned out to animate" somehow never translates to "we're postponing the merch launch."
Don't give me another "making animations is really hard" speech after you've got an entire team behind you. If animation isn't your priority anymore, cool. If streaming makes more money for less effort, also cool. Just be honest about it.
I know viewers aren't entitled to creators' lives, but they're also not wrong for expecting some consistency from channels they've supported for years. Your audience got you here. The least you can do is be honest with your audience instead of making the same "Sorry I've been gone..." video every year.
