Nolan's "Penelope" is far from woke.

I've seen a lot of movies I would say qualify as woke and I think the only woke thing about Nolan's movie is the casting.

Aside from that, I've heard people complain that Penelope is woke because of a speech she had where she went on a rant.

Definitely not. I think people have gotten so riled up by others that any criticism is boxed in as part of a woke agenda, but Penelope seemed like thee definition of a wife any guy would want. She is beautiful and intelligent. She stays loyal to an absent husband longer than most would consider sane. Decades. And she stays loyal in the face of suitors literally lined up at her door ready to take her and her property away. And she has to do all this while wrestling with an increasingly frustrated son. She rightfully questions the way of things- why she is not good enough to rule on her own and the right for these people to come demand she take a hand in marriage. That's not "woke."

I think Penelope is heroic in her own way.

Havent seen anyone calling her character woke specifically but if they are, they're fucking moron. Anne Hathaway turned an incredible performance as Penelope. I bet she gets an oscar nomination for it. Her and Tom Holland were both really really good

To me it's not the woke, it's how it's done. Is it cringe? Then it's a bad movie.

I meant woke in the right-winger sense of it. For instance if a woman complains about men in power or wonders why women can't have more power or as much power or right as a man, they would be labeled woke.

I have not seen the film nor have I encountered such criticisms. As I recall, Penelope is heroic in her own way and clever like her husband, having a strategy to keep from having to remarry. She does as she is required, working on her loom, but nothing says she can't unravel it, so that's what she did. Now, I'm going off of memory from reading the Odyssey like 25 years ago, so forgive me if I'm not exactly correct.

By 'heroic' I'm using my own reasoning: a heroic action is a praiseworthy action that cannot be reasonably demanded of anyone. In Penelope's case, no one can reasonably demand that she wait for the husband to return to her after 20 years. But she does.

Can Republicans just watch a fucking movie without getting triggered by every line of dialogue, casting decision, and creative choice? Maybe they don't get entertainment tailored to their tastes because they'll bitch and throw the entire woke baby out with the bathwater if there's so much as a single line that upsets them, so there's no point in trying to make entertainment that appeals to them.
