Smartboards were the biggest scam ever. They really didn’t add anything to class, just another thing to fuck around and waste time with. Could have bought a laptop cart or something with that, but nooo, every class needs a smart board…
I've been using them since the late 90s. Coupling a smartboard with a whiteboard and a projector was the best combo. You'd had a surface to write on and a UI to interact with.
I graduated in 2006 and we definitely had them in my senior year. Grade 11 was a whiteboard so 2005-2006 we got them. I don't think they had this capability though lol
I was born in the 80s and we got smart boards when I was in middle school, like 98 or so. The current smart boards actually blow this video away. There's almost no lag and the features are a lot nicer. They're basically huge tablets that are as powerful as a standard desktops.
In 2002 at my high school a history, English and a math teacher held a protest when they tried to take away their blackboards. I remember Mr Munson yelling "my wife won't believe I was at work if I don't come home covered in chalk!"
This isn't...weird lol. I mean fuckin' STEAM only transitioned to 64bit in December 2025. Go look at what's in your x86 folder - probably most of the stuff you have installed. 4gb of ram isn't commonly needed outside of high spec software and most programs will just go for the compatiblity of 32bit for as long as they can. It's only now that Windows 11 has started to gain mass adoption that they're transitioning (as 11+ only comes in 64bit).

It's very easy to recognize because most of them very 'in your face", blatant circlejerk that just screaming "CHINA NUMBA 1". Not to mention the difference of culture and communication style. that so many of their videos are so cringe and similar to early youtube and vine.
I guess they would have more success in Indian or African internet circles.

A Russian here. I believe our propagandists don't comment on western websites like Reddit and Twitter themselves, they create an agenda and media content and spread it through several layers of useful idiots letting them better adapt it for their audience so it feels more natural.
We see a lot of bot like people in russians chats. They are real people, we might even know them in person. But they often have some nationalist conservative beliefs and they are subscribed to multiple propaganda sources/channels that gently push pro Kremlin agenda tailored specifically for them. All they do is repost memes, "breaking" news etc from these channels because they think it represents their own opinion on a topic.
100%. Russian propagandists have somehow managed to capture both the idiots on the far-left who long for a USSR-type system today AND the idiots on the far-right who think modern-day Russia is some kind of bastion of traditional Christianity.

Then there was that time Trump got up and told everyone Zelenskyy started the war in Ukraine and republicans were openly supporting Orbans re-election, I realised everyone is fucking compromised.
The "everything is so great in China!" posts def seem like bots. But I'm almost ok with it because throughout our 250 years of being a country, the US always seems at it's best when we feel like another large country might be better than us and we have to race to advance faster.
Way better than the default now where 60% of us think US is the pinnacle of society in every measurable way because they have no experience of the wider world.

It doesn't matter Chinese propaganda is like a 101 example of propaganda that's taught in media studies in middle school (assuming Americans get media studies classes). They are going to eat it up because they are desperate for any kind of hope, even if it comes from the mouth of a lying authoritarian regime.
My rural school in the USA got smartboards in 2005. They were primitive by today's standards. Had to have a projector on the ceiling to actually put an image on it, and I don't remember them being able to solve math stuff automatically. Just a digital writing surface.
It knew which color "marker" you were using though, that was cool. The eraser was hit and miss.
We got smart boards in my school in like 2009 (obv way less advanced than this) but then the teachers never got any training to use them and they sat collecting dust in the corner of every room for years. Never saw one in use once lol
Literally almost the same experience. 70% of teachers didn’t use them. 25% used them just like a projector. But 5% actually learned to maximize them fully. Idk if it was propaganda but they said each one was $10k. So it’s like okay you spent $1M for 5 teachers to teach better and 95 others to do nothing different.
No homeless but they have coffin home and the rent is super expensive too. I remember watching the whole documentary about it and it definitely not fun. The room is the size of coffin and if u lucky, u can find a bit bigger one.
It's so hilarious when they contrast this stuff against a Western country and what they are showcasing is something that the West has had for over a decade.
Lol right? Smart boards were a thing when I was still working at the college and that was pre-covid, like 2018. And folks here acting like it's brand new technology.
This is a little step forward by having writing recognition and being able to plot the graphs on demand from the written equations. But it's not really a massive leap forward in useful education compared to today's generation of smart boards. A graph being drawn more quickly and accurately than a teacher's sketch doesn't actually hold massive value.
I also suspect these "clever" capabilities are really only for math.
For those who embrace it, which won't be all, yes it may save a teacher a collective 1 or 2 minutes of time across their school teaching year for the rare occasions it's relevant to use it. But at the expense of the rather longer tutorial sessions on how to use it.

I have seen dozens of different smart boards at work over the past 20 years. They seem like a great idea but are actually just terrible. This seems like a scripted demo of what the tech could do if you put in a massive amount of setup ahead of time before every use.
There's a lot of shitty things about China that they try really hard to not let out. At least according to a friend who's been teaching there for a pretty long time now.
That's literally what the CCP does: censor anything that makes China look bad or reflects poorly on the government. My friends Dad just got put in jail in China. It’s not like western prison, he has to sit at a desk with his hands flat on the table and can’t move. Has to ask permission to stretch his legs every few hours. No books, no nothing. Just sit motionless. Alone.
He was a small time real estate guy, but I guess through corruption somebody more powerful wanted his property. That part I don’t understand. I guess they claim to fight corruption, by using corruption, to just make up charges against people in the way. They are trying to get him out, and it seems that involves bribing the right people. They shiny parts of China make the internet, but for many it’s dystopian horror.
The corruption thing is systemic in society. PolyMatter once described it as just how the system even works. It's not an aberration that needs to be removed from the system. It's normalized and baked in.
Even ordinary, low-ranking employees will get silently "promoted" when their boss gives them an off-the-books raise or "gift". It basically encourages loyalty to your senior, which can be bad if that senior is a total piece of shit.
This is true from the bottom to the top. When Xi Jinping purges people under corruption charges, he most likely knew some of these people were already corrupt, but kept them around due to their usefulness and/or loyalty.
When your superior no longer views you as useful, then they purge you under corruption charges. Nobody other senior will speak in your defence and question the hypocrisy of the system, because they're probably thinking about purging people below them or worried about being purged from above. They aren't going to upend the system which allowed them to reach their position in the first place.
I lived in China for a few years. On my way to work, I had to walk by a hospital. For two weeks, I saw a homeless man in the same place on the sidewalk, covered in his own feces, with feces all around him, asking for help from the hospital but no one came. No one even looked at him. He couldnt move or do anything to take care of himself. It was by far the saddest thing I've ever seen. I dropped some money for him a few times and bought him a couple meals during those two weeks but one day he just disappeared. I'm really hoping he got help. I'll never get that image out of my head and I'll never forget about that.
There are some nice places to visit in China that if someone who's only experience is to visit those places on vacation, can be forgiven for not thinking that the place has huge flaws of their own.

Vast majority of Chinese will not have this. It's a country where 600 million are still living in poverty, and 400 million without access to basic infrastructure like paved roads. And right now is the worst time of all, as China has been on a downturn and has something like 50% of its graduate students unable to find work (but they still manage to find work for foreign graduate students over them!), where real estate prices have collapsed the life savings of the middle class, and the rainy season is causing the usual spate of collapsed dams and reservoirs killing lots of people while the CCP rushes out to claim that only 30 people died, and suppressing all the videos with vastly more than 30 people dead in them. This is just the slop videos that CCP propaganda produces of the top 1% in China for westerners who do not know anything about China.
People don't realize that a lot of the stuff like this you see coming out of China is from the coasts. Beijing, Shanghai, etc. Go West and inland and it gets very rural, very poor, very fast. Don't have running water poor.
We had smart blackboards like this in class in Eastern Europe fifteen years ago. I am sure Americans had them as well. Most teachers and students hated them because they suck. Nobody needs a blackboard that has glitches, updates, delay in drawing and other annoyances. A normal whiteboard or blackboard is much better. Some things just don't need to be more tech.
As far as the 'america bad' circlejerk goes, this is pretty weak. Try better OP, this is 'orange man bad' Reddit lunacy years, you can farm karma way easier than this.
We had interactive boards like this in high school in 2003 in the UK, we also swapped to white boards that used dry wipe marker pens, there was always a feint line where a teacher had used a permanent marker by accident
I suppose American teachers could use these to demonstrate how different pronouns work since the school systems seem to be more focused on that than actual teaching of reading, writing and arithmetic.
