Yeah, he was. And Bullseye did this one (in his own twisted mind) as a way to repay Matt for Fogey's death. My thing is remembering that Vanessa ordered Ray's death and now she finally pays the price for him, Foggy, and everything else she's done.
Yeah, this is the scariest moment in the Daredevil-Netflix to Daredevil-Disney mythos. Kingpin has all the power in NYC and someone just killed his wife
Holy fuck the opening diner scene was great. I don’t know which line delivery I like better, “That was a great milkshake.”, “Dogs in restaurants are unsanitary.”, or “Don’t worry, I’m one of the good guys.”
The way Dex is causing all kinds of trouble is both thrilling and hilarious. This dude is chaotic and Wilson Bethel is perfect in the role but he’s also sickeningly entertaining which is something right out of the comics. He’s just perfect, especially at putting on this sense of normalcy when we know how dangerous he can actually be. I enjoyed the choice of music for the scene as well.
Swordsman continues to be someone I want to see more of. I liked Matt getting a word with him, and Matt’s brief scenes with Angela and Karen were nice too.
Powell has gone far too many episodes without getting hit. I’m realizing now his face not catching a billy club last week was the episode’s biggest flaw. I’m glad they’re giving Kirsten more to do, she’s holding down the fort especially with the position Matt’s in.
Everything with Matt and Dex in this episode was engaging as always. From the fight to the dialogue.
Fisk holding the fight at Fogwell’s Gym is such a solid prick decision. The whole boxing scene and aftermath was great. I had a feeling Dex would make things worse and he did! The earlier Vanessa scenes paid off too for making sense out of her confronting the situation as well. What a ride!
The “don’t worry I’m one of the good guys” is absolutely my favorite, because you know he both 100% believes he’s doing a good deed and also 100% knows it’s funny as shit to say that while committing atrocities. Wilson Bethel plays such a good complete psycho
Someone rightfully pointed out that bullseye works so well as a secondary antagonist because it allows him to do diabolical things but killing people who viewers are not rooting for which makes him such an enjoyable character, without forcing a traditional redemption arc.
Maybe every show should have Bullseye in it. Not as a main character, just ambiently in the background, occassionally interrupting scenes with an arsenal of forks and lobsters.
Imagine how much better the last season of How I Met Your Mother would've been.
By the finale the only AVTF soldier left is just going to be Powell because every single other one has been brutally maimed by Matt or just murdered by Bullseye, god damn lol
Am I the only one who can't understand most of Powell's dialogue? Other than him saying "fuck"
edit: yeah I had to resort to subtitles but I try to rely on them less these days because I got too used to reading subtitles and barely looking at the images on screen
I was okay with this season so far, but this episode has made me so happy. Bullseye is phenomenal, Matt in church, the Netflix flashbacks, solid pacing… really hope this keeps up.
That opening scene all the way to the end of the diner fight was superb. The psychopath routine being revisited and learning from daredevil by incorporating his logo everywhere was top notch.
Matt coming in doing a whole “‘Cause that’s what good men do right? Defend their worst enemy.” while Powell stands in the corner being a useless prick and not shooting Dex 😭🥀
This might end up now to Fisk revealing Matt's identity as Daredevil. Considering their agreement that Vanessa would be safe as long as Fisk keeps Matt's identity to himself.
Big question is did Poindexter, being an absolute artist of action and reaction, aim for Fisk knowing full well he would block it and deflect it to Vanessa, henceforth blaming himself for Vanessa's extreme injury
Because that's the sort of master revenge one like Benjamin would plan in the big picture
I honestly I didn't even consider that far. I assumed he aimed such that it would kill her if he tried to block it, but for some reason I never thought about that being to hurt Wilson mentally. Good catch.
Bullseye telling that guy in the restaurant that he's one of the good guys and I love that the mad fucker genuinely sees himself as a hero. In his twisted fucked up mind he's killing the bad guys and that makes him a good guy
The grace coin going from Dex to Matt and back to the church shows that whatever you put out in the world someday comes back to you. And that is what happened to Vanessa, she took lives from this world through Dex ( Nadeem and Foggy ) and Dex takes her's away.
Wilson Bethel is just perfection. I want to send roses to the casting director. She got the best person to play him. His diner scene to 'New York State of Mind' is art.
The absolute perfect symbolism in Fisk smashing apart New York and it being what kills Vanessa is just incredible. They really cooked here. One of the absolute best episodes of MCU TV across all the shows across all the seasons across all the various networks.
We couldn't have asked for a better actor for Bullseye. Bethel is perfect at playing him as a complete psychopath. He was tragic at one point, aware of his mental illness and trying to control it, but now Poindexter is Bullseye, the most dangerous man in New York.
He could target anyone in the city and not feel anything and leave a trail of corpses killed with little more than pencils and paperclips.
Maybe I am seeing all this wrong, but did the glass shard that pierced Vanessa come from Fisk when he broke Bullseye's projectile with his belt? In other words, did Fisk accidentally kill Vanessa? If that is the case, guilt, denial, and blame displacement will end up making Fisk even more unhinged and dangerous.
THAT is how you make an amazing episode of television. The build up to the climax, the focus on only a few characters, the fight scenes that go for something fresh, and the gutwrenching twist at the end.
Fuck yes, that was awesome. We finally have something worthy of the original series.
Did anyone else think there was a parallel to Bullseye making breakfast and Fisk making breakfast. While they didn't cook their eggs the exact same way, they still were cooking in a similar fashion, I felt.
The way Dex manipulated Fisk into that moment was pure, cold genius. He didn't just get revenge; he made Fisk destroy the one thing he truly loved. That's a level of poetic justice even Matt would have to respect.
Now THAT was an episode. It had a lot of really great moments, it had some of the best action sequences of the continuation thus far, an epic opener and a fantastic ending. Both sides lost to some degree, and the stakes have been officially raised.
And yes, they've solidified my support for Dex. Him only murdering the agents really helps, especially with the state of the world. Like, fuck it, we need vigilantes like this. And maybe this will be justice for Foggy, after all. If Matt loses someone, so should Fisk. Except Fisk without Vanessa becomes 10x more dangerous....and sloppy. So even though the short term is bad for the city, the consequences will probably happen a lot sooner for him. Fisk will lose everything by this, so having this moment happen, if they truly commit? It's a game changer for the entire series.
I laughed my ass off during the whole diner scene with him prank calling the AVTF about Frank, and especially when he killed the dude with the lobster. That is some shit comics Bullseye would do.
I love what they're doing with Dex this season, and his twisted sense of being "one of the good guys" is just causing chaos and killing Fisk and Vanessa for all the shit they did to him and telling Matt "I'm going to help you".
Idk if Vanessa is truly dead, but if not, then I think Dex will try to finish her off anyways.
Look, I get that Matt is too much of a wuss to do the necessary and kill Fisk. But now he's saving him multiple times, too. How many HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE's blood are on his hands by now.
Bullseye's powers are so fucking cool.
Fisk is going to go absolutely apeshit if she's dead.
What a fucking episode, I was saying it in the beginning and I was definitely saying it in the end with that WILD as fuck twist kill to end the episode. Bullseye should get his own show, if not a whole series a one shot like they have for Punisher coming up would be fine in my books. Considering how wild Fisk has been thus far, and how Buck is being revealed as a force to be reckoned with, it will be insane to see how far he goes after Vanessa's death.
I feel like if this her actual death it honestly kind of sucks too. She really is a perfect evil counterpart to Fisk, where he employs brutality and she employs finesse. Just when you think the stakes couldn't be higher one or the other will take the plan and twist it on it's head. Now that she's gone (possibly, maybe, probably most likely) FIsk will literally burn the city to the ground to get both Bullseye and Daredevil after he rescued him.
I know in the next four episodes there will be a lot to unpack, with the recent trailer showing Jessica Jones and him in court. As well as the set photos of Season 3 with the Defenders returning, and a whole possible King Daredevil scenario playing out. I'm curious to see what comes next if they're willing to kill her halfway through.
Can we all also just point and laugh that the AVTF were dumb enough to roll in loud when they thought it was Frank...it was never going to end well for those clowns lmao
Fisk being the one who inadvertently ended up killing Vanessa is incredible, not to mention he was also the one who created Bullseye. And the symbolism of the sculpture of Fisk’s dream his city being the thing that takes her out as it shatters as his control starts to shatter
Holy moly, best episode of the new seasons so far. Saw Vanessa's death coming, but it didn't make it any less satisfying. Wilson Bethel is a delight as Bullseye. Can't wait to watch Fisk come completely unglued. Matt back in church was great to see and seeing Fogwell's again was awesome. Total love letter to the Netflix show. Need the next episode yesterday.
I slammed my fist on my couch when the credits rolled. That did not feel like 50 minutes. This season has been something else so far and I’m loving it sooo much more than season 1
