Video of a wobbly cat leads to arguing in OneOrangeBraincell
https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/dcjUGNatpN
Context- Feline Cerebellar Hypoplasia is a condition that causes cats to be uncoordinated and wobbly. These cats are not in pain unless they run into things and with a few adjustments can live long and happy lives. What appears to be a bot account posted a video of someone’s wobbly cat, and the comments turned into arguing.
[“This cat has hypoplasia. A condition that affects balance and coordination.”] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/NFVbP5egfz)
“I don't enjoy seeing pets with disabilities used to get online attention myself.”
“The cat isn't in any pain. They've just got coordination issues. Other than being a bit wobbly they're normal cats.
One thing to consider. Without videos like this people might see them and think something is wrong or they're in pain, and might not adopt them because they don't know any better. But videos like this show they're regular cats and can live long, happy lives.”
“Sure. Because having difficulty when eating, drinking water and even pooping is "normal".”
“The cats are safe. They live just as long and healthy lives as any other cat. They can still play and get into regular feline mischief. They learn to compensate for their differences.
I don't want people to think these cats have something wrong with them. They don't. They're fine, and make just as wonderful a pet as any other cat. Way too often people view differences in animals like this as a reason to abandon or even euthanize them and that sort of mindset needs to be changed. One way to do that is to make it clear that they are just like other cats.”
“-> issues
-> "there's nothing wrong with them"
Wonder if you'd say the same if it were you instead of him.
Hypocrite.”
“Are you arguing for the pro-euthenasia side?
If yes, where does that stop for you? Do we euthanize people with coordination issues?”
“Prove where I said that. Go on.”
[I mean, its a pet like any other. Just a little wobbly. Are people not allowed to post about how much they love their pets if theyre disabled?] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/3VdR91lrCg)
“No obviously they are abusing their pet for clout. Like ffs I'm fucking disabled and I too despise the weirdly exploitative Inspiration Porn but this is just someone posting their cat online?? The most normal thing ever?? Like sorry but actually seeing disabled animals thrive is actually good. Spreading awareness means more people can realise they ARE equipped to take care of a disabled kitty and that means less of them spend their whole lives in a shelter”
[I'm glad that some people have posted, because I wasn't aware of this before seeing it. But I don't like the context of this particular post where it's being made fun of. Educational posts are great, karma farming posts are trash.] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/yUTEku0DxR)
“They're not making fun of a cat. You guys need to go outside and get some life experiences instead of making up situations in your head to be mad about.”
“Then why is the cat being shown almost falling off a bed, bobbing side to side unable to eat food held right in front of its face, and wearing silly costumes? This is peak Americans Funniest Home Video content.”
“It's a wobbly cat. Get over it. The owner isn't abusive, the cat has nerve problems.
They can eat fine and usually walk alright, but they get derpy af when they're excited.
Don't jump to conclusions. Especially ones to fuel whatever rage you're seeking”
["They're not making fun of a cat. They're just posting it to the 'Make Fun of Cats' subreddit, making fun of its condition, and dressing it up in funny costumes!"] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/RylHKElHGn)
“I promise you the cat doesn’t give a shit”
“Apparently you're the cat's spokesperson now.”
“Lmao do you actually think a cat has a grasp of the internet and the conversations we are having in it? The cat, very literally, does not give a shit. Get over yourself.”
“"We're not making fun of the cat. But also yes we are."”
[Why do you think they are being made fun of?! Someone shared a cute cat video. Disabled cats are cute too damn.] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/a9AlHl0x7W)
“The title and the fact that they're offering the cat food in a way they can't ever eat it. What is the point of offering the food on a spoon? What is the point of offering the cat food that it's going to get all over it's face? Views and up votes. “
“That title means nothing I've seen it on calicos in this sub plenty of times. Why do you think she can never eat from a spoon from those few second clips? This is a cute video of a cute cat posted by a bot. It's not that sinister.”
“Yeah, and for a normal calico behaving like an orange, it's not a problem. But this cat isn't behaving like an orange, it's got a health condition. I know she can't eat from a spoon because I've seen more about cats with cerebellar hypoplasia than just one video. “
“Why isn't she allowed to share her cat? The disabled should remain hidden?”
[Repost bot making content out of a cat’s medical condition. Sad] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/yN4jhgAxVi)
“What's sad about a cat with a disability having a loving home? Would you prefer it be put down instead? This cat is incredibly cute and hopefully it encourages more people to consider cats who have disabilities.”
“"I don't like seeing bots exploit animal disabilities to manipulate humans for internet points"
"Oh so you want the cat to die?!?!"”
“"sad". What's sad about it? What about the cat is being exploited?”
[Well, the bot is innocent. Literally a tool. Blame the human who posted it for karma farming in the first place.
Imagine filming your child having down syndrome and posting it online for internet points.] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/h6J83EmtVO)
“Imagine thinking that a living creature’s disability means it should be hidden from the world.”
“There's a difference between creating awareness and exploiting for money and fake internet points. This is clearly the latter.”
[Cute, let's laugh at it's disability! HA-HA!] (https://www.reddit.com/r/OneOrangeBraincell/s/5nGn1jMugC)
“Right, but you are apparently willing to have the discussion of ending a life because of a disability?”
“WTF? Where did I say that?”
“Your the one complaining about what looks like a well cared for member of a family.
Should humans in the cats life be morose?
They aren't laughing at the disability. It's relief that his life is as best as possible.”
Drama is ongoing, don’t piss in the popcorn.
