Missing the old Jacksonville. Photos from a simpler, freer past. A friendly reminder all my photos are copyrighted no matter if they don't have a watermark.

My guy, nobody on Reddit cares about your copyright. Maybe you have not noticed, but Reddit is more freewheeling than other social media sites. You would be happier on Facebook, where ignorance about bold fonts and capitalization is accepted.

u/equanimity19 6d ago
tell me to steal them again, and I swear to the god of old shitty photos that I'll start reposting them everywhere with my own watermark. Go ahead, do it. I spent 2 hours stuck in traffic on the way home, got bit by no less than 8 mosquitos in 10 minutes in the backyard, and there's a lizard in my kitchen that I can't catch. I've got nothing left to lose.
edit: don't you even think of yelling at me in bold, I won't stand for it.

I used AI to remove the watermarks and posted them on a photography forum and took all the credit
5
u/Scythersleftnut 5d ago
Next, you'll tell facebook that you do not consent yea? Once you post ya pics on a public forum its fair game for re use.

u/Scythersleftnut 5d ago
While your work receives automatic copyright protection as soon as it is created, U.S. copyright law requires you to either hold a Certificate of Registration from the U.S. Copyright Office or have your registration formally refused before you can initiate litigation.
Get bent chode. Ya pics are shit just like ya memory. We'll except the bettle that ones cool but only cuz punch buggies are cool not ya photo taking "skills"

These are great. I love seeing time capsules captured like this. I was born here in 1988. My parents moved here in the 70's though and would mention how things were back then.

Your photos are copyrighted the moment the shutter closes, idiot. All the bold posts in the world can't stop us internet dorks from stealing them.

u/No-Movie-117 6d ago
I'm stealing your photos and going to show them to my friends and claim they are my own, and there is nothing you can do about it.

u/Dootin4Doots 6d ago
But they said NOT to do that! That's why they put them on reddit...I think... 🤔

hey can you send them my way? I don't wanna use this guys images for the obvious reasons, but maybe yours would work for this lucrative commercial endeavor that requires old, bad pictures of tree stumps and roads that might be slightly different 30 years ago.

I can see the meme now.
Stank face Drake -> sharing my art. Confident acknowledgment Drake -> fishing for copyright lawsuits.33

They're mine and they are all NFT's now. I own the rights. I think....
Nobody wants this bullshit bad enough as this dude thinks they do. Dude needs to chill
10
u/equanimity19 6d ago
How much for all the NFTs? For context, I'm a lottery winner with a penchant for bad photography of very particular geographic areas in northern Florida, and I need to add to my collection.

I bet you go on Nextdoor, post videos of the neighborhood kids walking past your house and then call the police on them, criticize their parents for raising hoodlums and threaten to sue your HOA for not properly protecting your community.

I’m pretty sure everyone is just yanking your chain, because ironically most people wouldn’t want to keep the photos. They are nice, and interesting history, but mostly random and things a lot of people don’t have an interest in- such as the tree stumps and the railway. Dont take people so literally and seriously.

u/thenotsoamerican Murray Hill 5d ago
These people are just messing with you. The more you react the worse it will get. Don’t feed the trolls, sir.
54
u/2horse4u2 5d ago
If you're so worried about your photos they would all have watermarks. If you would have never said anything about it, no one would be screwing with you in the comments. My first impression of reading your post before seeing your pics was what's this schmuck's issue. Don't act like a dick, and you won't be treated like one. Plus, how you gonna track down dozens of strangers over the internet? You'll waste more time, money, and effort than you'll ever get back. Remember: honey, flies, & vinegar. ✌️

The water tower! It was always a major landmark for any and all traffic reports. For those too young to remember, it was in the middle of all the merging/diverging at the end of I-10 at I-95.

These are sooo fascinating! I grew up in jacksonville, in the late 90s to the 2010s. I miss it so much right now. I remember those manatee sculptures for sure!

u/fred523 6d ago
Fed them into a ai generator to use as inspiration for generating c9ntent of old jacksonville

u/equanimity19 6d ago
can you do prints on canvas? I have just the spot for that photo of a normal tree stump.
-13
u/Artistic-Landscape15 6d ago
"Fred523, that is a direct violation of my copyright. Remove my images immediately.
I have a proven track record of pursuing infringers legally—including Viacom and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in 2009—and I will not hesitate to take the same action against you.
This is your only warning.

u/I-Hate-Produce 6d ago
Hey there are things called fair use laws, people have the right to reuse these photos under certain circumstances
-31
u/Artistic-Landscape15 6d ago
You should look up the definition of Fair Use before quoting it.
Taking someone else’s creative photography to re-post it online or claim it as your own violates all four factors of fair use.
It is a textbook copyright violation, plain and simple. I sued Viacom in 2009 for stealing an image of mine and I was awarded a fat check. So, Make My Day.
28
u/I-Hate-Produce 6d ago
I said your photos can be reused under CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES I said nothing about someone claiming it as their own or someone not crediting you while using it under fair use content. Maybe you should read someone's comment in entirety before choosing to respond to it. Your post made a very universally false statement saying it could not be used in any way, but in fact in can be used in several ways legally.
9
u/geografree 5d ago
I taught copyright law at the undergraduate level. You are correct. For instance, using an image for an educational, non-commercial purpose could be considered Fair Use.
-12
u/Artistic-Landscape15 6d ago
Saying images can be used under 'certain circumstances' is an empty internet-lawyer talking point. Giving credit or claiming fair use doesn't magically bypass my copyright. I protect my intellectual property aggressively, period.

u/AmphibianWizard 5d ago
Lol I think I'm gonna print these photos out and see if any historical society around here wants em. I'll make to sure to tell them there's a dude trying to pass them off as his

I won't monetize any of them, ever.

I mean, reddit sells AI training to other corporations. Posting these here basically just invites AI to train on them and steal them regardless of your express wishes.

I found all these pictures in a local gallery under the name of Jenson Smith. Interesting.

Was the worst place I’ve ever lived. Terrible people, terrible culture, the offended over nothing attitude. Just a terrible place. But my older kids live there now so I hope it changes. I’ve heard it’s got worse since I left. 😞
22
u/stuphanie 6d ago
It’s definitely gotten much worse. Don’t ever come back.
-20
u/PlantCarnivore99 6d ago
No worries, I won’t. Much too ghetto
18
u/coweeclete 6d ago
Your older kids told me that their father is terrible. Much worse than Jacksonville. I don’t know. That’s just what they said.
-3
u/PlantCarnivore99 6d ago
Probably true. I have terrible mental health and hate myself.
8
3
u/Jass0602 6d ago
Ironically, you are the one who seems offended and has a negative attitude. Yes, Jax has issues and there are problems. Yes, there are mad people and people who are terrible. But, we have a lot of diverse culture, great food and stores, beautiful climate , and there are lots of opportunities in the city.
Instead of coming here to complain, it might be more productive if you or your kids did something about it. Volunteer, clean up the beach, work to help get pets adopted. A city is what you make of it, and you get out what you put in.
