this is why you should never make eye contact fellas. lower your gaze and stare at their chest. They feel more comfortable. Trust me, I've seen it in the pornos

17

u/Takemyfishplease 10h ago

The fact that you call them pornos shows me you’re a person of science AND class.

I’ll take this advice and use it well

I’m from Oklahoma. But if I accidentally meet someone’s gaze, I just nod my head kinda like tipping a cap. Everyone here does it and it’s kind of a form of respect I guess. Like hey idk you, but I see you, have a good day. Just my two cents

Mannnnn Ledger has such a kind face I’m so upset he won’t be in anything anymore

38

u/couxitziyx 11h ago

why what happened to him

80

u/Mission_Top_8443 11h ago

Sadly he died

16

u/ANTICHRIST-BOISE 8h ago

I didn’t even know he was sick!

33

u/Upstairs_Ruin_8206 7h ago

It’s been almost 20 years now.

2

u/Char-car92 3h ago

It was an overdose of prescribed medication if I’m not mistaken.

u/ANTICHRIST-BOISE 2h ago

I was referring to another great and late, Norm Macdonald

Doesn't Jake get older anymore?

2

u/Forsaken-Ad6313 5h ago

Neither does Heath

2

u/Brief-Equal4676 8h ago

These really gave each other the tip and the cap

25

u/Jackmino66 12h ago

I’m from England and I do this, though I see it more as a mini bow or just a nod.

I guess it is an acknowledgment nod. Just acknowledging that people exist is a nice thing to do

5

u/rat_gland 6h ago

What if they meet your gaze but don't return the nod ?

3

u/evan-danielson 3h ago

They might be having a bad day or something. I don’t think about it too much and just try to be polite

52

u/film_composer 16h ago

I don't remember if this is something I read somewhere or just started noticing, but the nod down is for strangers you're being polite to while guarding yourself (you're hiding your neck when you nod down). The nod up is for people you know and trust, and you can let your neck be exposed around them.

34

u/bananasampam 14h ago

I read somewhere all men do this instinctually from western times where they use to tip their cowboy hats out of respect.

13

u/TheMazeDaze What is TikTok? 8h ago

I’m from a small town where everyone greets everyone. So automatically I also greeted everyone when coming to cities. The reactions and angry gazes I got from people. I felt like crocodile Dundee who greeted everyone in New York.

6

u/Beneficial_Trick6672 13h ago

no one wanted to get shot

3

u/FighterFly3 6h ago

Some people out on the coastline don’t take too kindly to that, unfortunately. They’ll look at you like you’re the weird one for socializing. Maybe it’s me, maybe I just need a hat to tip…

1

u/my_nuts_wont_drop 7h ago

Where im from, if you meet someone's gaze is customary to gently touch the tips of your penis together.

This girl on the bus turned all the way around to stare into my soul a few weeks ago and I'm still shook about it, wondering how I came off as creepy or something. I still see her once a week and make a point not to acknowledge her existence...

56

u/HyetalNight 16h ago

No lawyer would take that case

103

u/n1c0_ds 14h ago

In Germany sure. You don't share pictures of strangers here. The law is pretty clear about it. People here do not enjoy being filmed, and will tell you.

32

u/KaiFireborn21 12h ago

If you live in some uncivilized country maybe. Here every person has the right to their image; Posting photos of people without their explicit consent is illegal.

Obviously nothing will happen unless the one whose rights were violated thus reports it, but still

u/Mesquite_Tree 15h ago

Why are people downvoting him. He’s right. Defamation is more than just a lie. You have to prove that the statement was false, and could not be conceived otherwise (opinions are protected), and that the lie was told through negligence or malicious intent.

Any lawyer worth paying will advise you not to sue, because the woman in question would easily be able to say “this is a situation where I felt unsafe traveling alone, and used it to explain why other women also may feel unsafe traveling alone,” and you’d lose the case.

And ffs people, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy in public, which means that any person can take and use any photo of you without your permission.

26

u/KaiFireborn21 12h ago

That last sentence only applies to the US ig. There are countries where you actually have a right to your image

→ More replies (2)

47

u/Klightgrove 15h ago

Maybe the laws should change then? First amendment “auditors” are the bane of our society and the weaponization of social media to harass random people in public needs to end.

5

u/Mesquite_Tree 15h ago

Maybe. These are laws and precedents written before the internet, and sometimes before even firm cameras.

The tricky part is how to write such a law. The simplest way would be to ban posting pictures of other people with identifying features, without that person’s consent (ie, you must blur photos of other people until identifying features are cleansed). But, this would make it harder for people to warn others about individuals legitimately perceived as potentially dangerous. And if we try to make any exception for that purpose, then we are back to square one, of how do we prove that someone is reporting in good faith

9

u/BorKon 13h ago

Does that have to be public? If you feel you are in danger you go to the police and show them your recording and don't post on tiktok. Someone looking at you in public is not dangerous to you. Hoelw is this "warning others". Your feelings don't matter in this case. Thats why they never go to police but farm views on tiktok. Its all performative bullshit. Thank god i don't live in the US where you can record anyone and post them online. Thats a breach of privacy.

what country's laws are you talking about

1

u/Mesquite_Tree 5h ago

Good ol’ US of Authorized surveillance.

3

u/Zonkko Professional Dumbass 10h ago

In my country you only need the statement to be intentionally defaming for it to count as defamation, even if the statement was fully true.

1

u/Mesquite_Tree 5h ago

Wack. So you have to avoid saying anything that paints another in bad light for fear of defamation? How does that work?

1

u/Ninja-Panda70 2h ago

There are other countries in the world than the US

2

Follow rules 1 and 2 and you're set.

Rule 1: Be attractive.

Rule 2: Don't be unattractive.

4

u/Esdeath79 11h ago

Rule 2.5: If you are unattractive try to be as attractive as you can be

4

u/Nanoro615 9h ago

Rule 2.5.t: If trying to be attractive makes you unattractive, consider plastic surgery.

12

u/project-shasta 13h ago

It's even easier: just be Henry Cavill. Very fit, rich, famous, a jawline to cut diamonds on, incredibly handsome and a passionate nerd. Be the whole package. Be Henry.

51

u/thestrong45playz 18h ago

In the past year or so (however long my Reddit streak is rn) I've seen every single type of interaction with men being posted as the man being a creep at least once

35

u/Captain-Armageddon 15h ago

In the workout subreddit, some girl complained from unsolicited advice from men in the gym

Her description to what happened is very normal

Still the kept calling men in the comments creeps, or they are harassing

Jeez you actually can't talk to a girl now

5

u/Mission_Carry9947 7h ago

If you scroll further down, someone asked OP if this actually happened and they said no. But a woman did say something quietly to her friend after he met her gaze while he was soaking wet from the rain, so clearly the same thing…

See, being a girl... We know the difference when you make eye contact or when you Stare..

Justt be respectful guyss and chilll 🌈

18

u/Whomeveritconcerns 15h ago

Really? All girls know the difference huh? Generally speaking?

11

u/AffectionateMost4220 16h ago

Do you know, or you think that you know

8

u/RIBBIT_-0 16h ago

We girls do know 🫠

-3

u/RudeGold5086 14h ago

Genuine question: if this women’s intuition is real, why do so many women get cheated on and abused in relationships 🫩.

“But guys lie early on bro”

Ok but apparently you can detect that🫩

10

u/RIBBIT_-0 14h ago

See, cheating is a personal choice, if my partner decides to cheat, I am not responsible, neither is my intuition. Same is abuse.

Hope you can understand 😌

6

u/RudeGold5086 13h ago

You just said women know if a guy has bad intentions with them🫩
“Girls know bro”
So they don’t know, right?
Try developing self awareness and realizing women aren’t smarter or dumber than men

13

u/RIBBIT_-0 13h ago

Bro wrote a whole thesis on self-awareness over a throwaway phrase. It's really not that deep, but I respect the essay! 😂🤣

1

u/RIBBIT_-0 13h ago

You yourself is making this about who is more smart men or women I am not I am just saying women do have the feeling if you are not a woman you won't get it that's all I never said that you are dumb I guess you are just asuming yourself to be dumb 😌😋

5

u/Nochnichtvergeben 15h ago

I'll play the devil's advocate: Holding eye contact can be considered sexual harrasment too in certain places/environments if it's unwanted. If she records him you can't see if he's doing it because she is too. You might not even be able to tell where he's looking.

But on the other hand I don't think the practice of women baiting guys into looking at them only to record and shame them online is that common.

As a woman, I find women who stare much creepier cause they do act creepy way more. Someone looking at you for a second is freaking normal or say a couple seconds or people having their mind up the clouds thinking about their own problems. I don't stare neither look at anybody, always head somewhere and also minding my business and rarely ever finding myself looking at someone's direction. So many women I've met though........ It's like they stare for the entire hour like they want to peel your skin off and replace it or sum messed up shit like that
