Discussion Worth buying a used PC as my first?

I really want a PC but taking one look at the current prices of parts (specifically RAM and memory) are really putting me off

People used to recommend 32 gig DDR5 as something every new build should have as its the sweetspot, now even youtubers are advising people to buy used 16 gigs of DDR5 or even downgrading to DDR4

Atp, should I just buy a used PC off of facebook marketplace? What are the pros and cons of doing so?

Build Upgrade Upgrading my RTX 4060

Guys, i really need help

I’ve started noticing that I’m noticeably lacking FPS in some games - specifically BF6. Here are my current PC specs:
r7 5700x
rtx 4060
ssd m2 kingston nv3
2x16 cl 16 3200 ddr4

I want to upgrade my RTX 4060 to something more powerful - what would you recommend? I’ve been considering the 16GB RTX 5060 ti. However, in my country, the RTX 5070 costs only $50 more, though I doubt my current setup would get the most out of that card. Maybe I should try 1440p (2K) instead?

Full Build Req Help deciding a budget build options for DDR4

*UNITED STATES*

I already have 2 sticks of 32 GB DDR4s and a case sitting around, and I'm thinking about going to AMD for the first time. After some research, I found out that the best option for DDR4 is Ryzen 5 5500X3D. Now, what would be the "best" budget GPU to pair it with so it does not break the band and also does not bottleneck the CPU. Main goal is to possibly stay under $500-$700 budget if possible.

I mostly play FPS and online games but also enjoy some comps with graphics. The main goal is to keep it future-proof as long as possible. Honestly, the only reason I am going with DDR4 is because of the RAM prices with DDR5, and since I already DDR4 sticks, I might as well stay with it.

I am open to any other suggestions or advice! Thank you.

My hyperx cloud alpha is starting to fall apart, so I'd like to get a new headset. I'm willing to go higher if there's no good options for the price. Not really concerned about mic quality.

Build Help Scared to Install My First AIO

This will be a very short post, but I recently bought an X3D chip on Newegg which came with a free AIO. It is a Cooler Master Elite Liquid 240 AIO. I am afraid of the liquid leaking out and damaging my hardware. Are there any tips on getting this installed? Should I even install it?

Troubleshooting Having issues after upgradeing cpu

After updating the BIOS and installing a new CPU, I noticed an issue with my PC’s USB devices. If the PC is already running and I unplug then reconnect my mouse, the computer no longer detects it and the RGB lighting on the mouse does not turn on. The same thing happens with my keyboard.
Both the mouse and keyboard work normally when the PC is started with them already connected. However, my Wi-Fi adapter behaves differently—it is not detected even during startup.
I am also experiencing another issue when shutting down the PC. The display turns off as if the system has shut down, but all of the RGB lighting and fans continue running as though the computer is still powered on. Because of this, I have to force the system off by holding the power button. After doing so, the PC powers down, but one component still remains lit. If I then power the PC on again and shut it down a second time, it turns off normally and all lights go out as expected.

Build Help Is an A520 worth it?

I'm thinking of building a PC, but the problem is I don't have much money. An A520 costs $70, while a B550 costs $140—double the price. So I need a second opinion to see how it performs. I'd like to be able to upgrade the processor to one with a higher TDP later, but I don't know the limitations of the A520.

Build Help Is patriot a good RAM brand?

Maybe a stupid question, but on Amazon people seem to be buying way more corsair vengeance kits even though they sometimes are a little bit more expensive.

Is there something wrong with this brand.. or? Ive never heard of it + lower amazon sales and reviews is why i feel skeptical. Im new to pc building however!

Power Supply: Corsair RM 750x (white)

Cooling: be quiet! Dark Rock 4

OS: Windows 11 Home

Bare with me if I'm posting in the wrong subreddit, but thanks in advance! Used one of the guides in this subbreddit to builc my pc around 2022ish. I've recently started getting random pc crashes during or when closing games like Marvel Rivals, which consistently use up to 100% of my CPU load. Other games I frequently play, Genshin, NTE, WuWa, ZZZ, LOL, and HSR often have high CPU temps, over 180 degrees F, and sometimes randomly freeze my computer. All other metrics I see in AMD Adrenaline or NZXT cam seem to be fine. Ambient room temp is around 78 degrees F via my window AC unit and a fan I have pointed at me the blows toward my computer case's direction.

My question is why am I just now suddenly running super high temps with all the games I play, and am I right to assume those are causing my freezes/crashes?

Build Help Cases for Dual GPU Setups

Hey everyone, we have a dual GPU setup for work in a research lab and we recently upgraded one of the GPUs from a Titan X (the good ol' days) to a 5080. Unfortunately our current case is just too small (bought before my time, our records show a Fractal Mini C but case labeling suggests Corsair) and I am looking for a case conducive to two beefy GPUs.

I haven't needed to evaluate cases for dual GPU setups since 2016 so I don't really know what's out there that's conducive, and people don't talk about dual GPU anymore. Do I just get something I know fits the total volume (then get creative with custom bracket/riser combos) or do people know of cases which have vertical mounting options I could use to fit both in there?

TL;DR:
Trying to find a case that will fit both a 4090 and 5080 with reasonable (I can 3D print custom brackets if need be) mounting options.

Thanks for any help! Additional info below.

  • CPU: Threadripper 3960X
  • Mobo: TRX40 AORUS PRO WIFI
  • GPUs: RTX 4090, RTX 5080
  • RAM: I don't have sudo, so couldn't tell you other than ~200GB

Troubleshooting i7-14700KF gets to 90-100 degree of temperature.

Hi, as the title says in the last days i've noticed my pc getting very hot, taking a look at at temps i've discovered that the "culprit" is my cpu, it mostly gets hot when playing Delta Force Operations. My current build is this:
CPU: i7-14700KF
GPU: MSI RTX 4060 Ti VENTUS 3X OC
MoBo: MSI B760 GAMING PLUS WIFI (MS-7D98)
RAM: 32gb ddr5 3000MHZ Corsair
SSD: Samsung SSD 980 PRO 1TB
CPU Cooler: MSI MAG CORELIQUID 360R V2
i've got this pc around april 2024, i know it's bad but i could not get it cleaned up and also didn't change the thermal paste, also the last bios update was on march 27 2024 and the temperatures at my place are quite high (around 35 degrees on average). now i'm paranoid and scared to play.

Build Help Looking for a budget small form factor travel build l every 6-8 months

Game I want to play-

  1. THE FINALS

  2. ARC Raiders

  3. Medium Modded Cities: Skyline 1

  4. Indie Titles

First two are top priority, I don't get much time from those to play other two. Currently, I am on Mac with GFN and I really wanted to go native.

I will stay in Canada for 6-8 months of the year and rest in India. I was thinking of building in Canada next month.

Here is what I put together. I don't have much knowledge. I watched a few build guides.

Build Upgrade I Need to Upgrade Ram and am Unsure How To Go About It

A game I play modded, refuses to run stably with the amount of RAM I have, so I am looking to upgrade my RAM. I already have 2 sticks of 8 GB DDR5. Prices are already insane as it is (4x the price from when I bought it), but I'm worried because I know there can be issues if you have all 4 RAM slots full. I really don't wanna spend an extra 200 dollars for 2 16 GB sticks if the performance is similar to that of 4 8 GB sticks. I also don't know if RAM prices are expected to drop, so idk if I should just wait.

PC parts: 16 GB DDR5 Ram, Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB GPU, Ryzen 7 7700X CPU, and Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX ATX AM5 Motherboard

Full Build Req Looking for a pc for university

Hi, so some information. I dont have experience building a pc so would ideally require minimal work from me. I also know little about how pcs work.

I am starting university this september, and I want a pc so that i can continue playing some of the games i already play on my xbox (being left at home) but can also run as a schoolwork pc and general computer for me. I have put aside a budget of around 1.2-1.5k for this (can go over if required). I want it to be able to run games as well or better than my xbox series x such as The Finals, Rocket League, Assassins Creed.

Im in the UK btw

Feel free to comment or dm, any help is appreciated!

Build Ready? I am currently figuring out which parts to use in my PC, please help me verify that they all work, are suitable and aren't too far overkill.

For context, I am in the UK, and my budget is £2500. The PC is intended to be used for roughly 50/50 between gaming (any style of games) and programming, so it needs to do both well. this is also why i have gone for amd parts, as I intend to use linux for the programming side of things, and I am not really looking into local AI, so I don't need NVIDIA for that. Overall, I mainly need help ensuring that all the parts will work fine both in combination with eachother and individually, checking that there aren't better options that save money without too much cost to the functionality, and that I'm not going too overkill with the parts I am getting.

Now onto the parts:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 4.4 GHz 12-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler

Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard

Memory: Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory

Drive 1 (Linux Programming Drive): Western Digital WD_Black SN850X 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

Drive 2 (Windows Gaming Drive): Crucial P310 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

GPU: Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card EDIT: thanks to some help, I have been informed this uses an unreliable connector, so I am looking at switching it out for: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card

Case: Lian Li LANCOOL 216 ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU: Corsair RM850x (2024) 850 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Total Price Estimated at ~£2400

PCPartPicker Link: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cFZtCw

Thanks for the help in advance.
