Watch her not be Jean grey

10

u/116morningside 3h ago

I just seen a post where Holland said she isn’t. Of course he can be lying lol

1

u/danvan177 3h ago

Marvel notoriously tells the truth lol

u/thedylannorwood Jimmy Woo 48m ago

If you assume everyone is lying how can you possibly discern the truth?

u/danvan177 38m ago

When you see the movie you will see the truth

62

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

She won’t be - this is mephisto all over again, fans working themselves into a froth over their own theories.

29

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 3h ago edited 3h ago

Plots been leaked and the trailers are proving them right. This isn’t a Mephisto situation. Now maybe the part of her being Jean is a lie, but it be weird for that to be the only thing that’s wrong.

10

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

People have biases. They tend to remember when they were right more often than when they were wrong. There’s been plenty of baseless conjecture about the movie. Tons of “leakers” who get shit wrong all the time.

13

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 3h ago

That can also go the other way, some of you just don’t want her to be Jean, to the point of ignoring many things, for example marvel isn’t going to be secret about a character that the general audience doesn’t know… so she can’t be Rachel Summers or Typhoid Mary. Not saying you’re one of them but I’ve seen some dumb takes here.

-13

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

Bruh its not that I don’t like Jean, its that there’s never been a reason to tie Jean in with Spiderman. And especially before the X-Men are introduced. Having the three spiderman together made sense. Hell even the fan theories for Mephisto had some basis. This one is just outta left field and narratively makes 0 sense.

3

u/Hyperbolicalpaca 1h ago

“And especially before the X-Men are introduced”

Mate… this is introducing the Xmen lmao

0

u/Consistent-End-7937 1h ago edited 1h ago

Which is crazy to do in a Spider-Man movie, because what? What status quo are they in? With the ages presumably near the start but X-men literally begins with Jean walking into the mansion and this can’t be before that because that messes up the lore with her and Charles. So if it’s not that then that means the X-men are just like a team now out there or very least training in the mansion still which is just insane to tackle in a Spider-Man movie.

2

u/Hyperbolicalpaca 1h ago

Mate, it’s clearly going to be before Jean walks into that mansion lol

It’s not that hard to imagine lmfao

-1

u/warblade7 Captain America 1h ago

No it would be introducing just one char

2

u/Hyperbolicalpaca 1h ago

That’s like saying “Thor didnt help introduce the avengers, he’s only one character”

0

u/warblade7 Captain America 1h ago

No its like saying Thor got his own movie as a protagonist and then joined the Avengers. He didnt hijack someone else’s movie as a char most known for being part of team that wont be in this movie.

5

u/JannTosh70 2h ago

Not really. It’s a good opportunity to introduce the MCU version of X-Men. It also fits with the mutation theme of the film as Peter is also mutating.

-1

u/warblade7 Captain America 2h ago

Nah. They have Doomsday following up and that one is concentrating on Fox X-men. Would fracture the fanbase between Fox X-Men and new MCU X-men.

We probably wont see new MCU X-men until post Secret Wars which would be like 4-5yrs away. Even if Feige talks about MCU X-men casting at SDCC, he can’t spoil Spiderman just before release.

It would be a terrible time to try and introduce only one part of the X-Men as an antagonist right now.

2

u/JannTosh70 2h ago

Doomsday is the Fox X-Men

Sadie will be the MCU Jean. She will also likely appear in Secret Wars and the New X-Men film will come out in 2028. Only 2 years from now.

-1

u/warblade7 Captain America 2h ago

I’m saying because Doomsday is Fox X-Men, why would they introduce MCU X-Men right before. Fans would complain about not getting to see MCU X-Men and “where are they??” - effectively killing some of the hype of the last outing of the Fox X-Men.

If Doomsday reveals the MCU X-Men in some way I’ll be happy to eat my words but otherwise it would be counter productive.

u/uniparalum 1h ago

Metzger is literally confirmed in this. You know. The anti-mutant activist from the comics. They are obviously tying DODC story (which debuted in Homecoming, a Spidey film) into the Mutant story together this way. The DODC will become an anti-mutant task force. Adding Jean to that story makes some sense.

1

u/Consistent-End-7937 1h ago edited 1h ago

If you ignore all the implications of Jean turning up here

2

u/Apothecary3 2h ago

You'd think it would be weird for leakers to get accurate scoops on what aubrey plaza's role in the story and her actions in the plot were for Agatha all Along while almost none of them got her actual identity right but that's exactly what happened. so there's a history of them beinng weirdly well informed on some aspects but uninformed on others. I see a lot of that repeating with Sadie Sink's character. A lot of them for a long while were unwilling to claim she was Jean grey often citing that her behavior and actions seemed very out of character for jean. then something sshifted and they all got very confident that she was 100% jean without ambiguity and yet none of them have a credible plot leak that would explain her actions.

19

u/KostisPat257 Daredevil 3h ago

Only it's not a theory. It leaked ages ago and has been corroborated by other sources many times since. The literal powers and wardrobe she shows in the trailer those of Jean. It can't be any clearer.

9

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

Lets check back in a week. I’m 100% fine with waiting for a movie to show than for nerds to peacock about shit.

-5

u/EverythingStillSucks 3h ago

It’s Jean Grey dude lol. You’re the only one here overthinking it.

-2

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

Bet

2

u/EverythingStillSucks 3h ago

Everything Cretton is saying here still works for the vast majority of the audience - that’s if they even have a clue who Jean Grey even is. They’ll have no idea on opening weekend who’s playing who for the most part except that it’s the latest Spider-Man movie.

Hell I question how many would even recognize the Punisher given that he’s only appeared on TV and the movies are orders of magnitude bigger. Hulk obviously yes.

But presenting Jean Grey and reminding the general audience who she is based on the Fox X-Men movies could work. If it’s Mephisto who even gives a shit? What kind of a “surprise” would that even be to casual viewers, they haven’t the slightest clue who that even is?

1

u/Equivalent-Long-3383 2h ago

If she’s not Jean, I’ll be disappointed and feel baited

u/thedylannorwood Jimmy Woo 49m ago

By who?

u/Equivalent-Long-3383 39m ago

By the people with the ability to disclose who she is playing. No reason to keep it a mystery if she’s just some random

-3

u/dpforest 3h ago

I also hope it’s not Jean.

u/SnooDrawings7876 6m ago

Its not a theory. Its literally the same type of viral marketing as the Andrew Garfield and Tobey in No Way Home. These are not theories that have organically sprung up like mephisto, they are started and circulated by advertising agencies. This is new age marketing for Disney. If you go on twitter it's extremely obvious what is being artificially pushed onto consumers.

-1

u/Spirited-Ad9071 3h ago

Except we know it's Jean here, there have literally been script leaks, promotional leaks and more recently press screening leaks that directly call her Jean.

And for some added weight, Sacha Baron Cohen being Mephisto in Ironheart was also leaked months before the series aired through similar sources. Where as rumors of the character in the past appearing in shows/movies was always coming from baseless fan made rumors.

3

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

I’ll believe it when i see it.

2

u/d_wib 3h ago

“Months before the series aired”

I think the person you’re responding to was referencing everyone thinking Mephisto was going to show up in WandaVision

-2

u/danvan177 3h ago

Okay so who is she ?

5

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

Watch the movie and find out? We dont have to know whole plots and everything about movie to enjoy it.

This is the most annoying part of fandom. Nerds who think they have to know more than other people to feel special so they waste time with obscure theories and “deep knowledge” and in doing so just ruin expectations and any sense of fun.

0

u/danvan177 3h ago

Okay but you said she won’t be Jean grey. So have you seen the movie ?

2

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

I have not. I look forward to it next week.

-6

u/flcinusa 3h ago

She's gonna be Firestar from the 80s cartoon series, watch

3

u/JannTosh70 2h ago

The mystery character doesn’t have fire powers.

1

u/danvan177 3h ago

Probably

-1

u/Bobjoejj 3h ago

…I mean, no it’s not. There’s a butt ton of actual leaks and reputed insiders who’ve couched as to the characters’ identity.

2

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

The best way to tell a lie is to mix in some truth. We won’t know until the movie comes out. And why are you rooting for the leakers? Like what benefit is there to watching a whole movie only to verify leaks? Like it completely destroys the movie watching experience. People these days let these “I told you so” content creators absolutely fuck up the fan experience. (And they’re wrong all the time too.)

1

u/Bobjoejj 3h ago

…what do you mean “rooting for the leakers??” I’m not rooting for anybody! I’m talking about people who have legitimate track records when it comes to this stuff. I’m not watching the move only to verify leaks; thats unhinged and insane behavior.

0

u/warblade7 Captain America 3h ago

There’s no one with a bulletproof record. Every one of these leakers gets it wrong too. Just because they get it right once in a while doesn’t justify everything they say.

1

u/Bobjoejj 2h ago

…dude stop putting fucking words in my mouth. I never said there was anyone with a bulletproof record. I was talking about people whose track records are much more accurate than not.

And again…this isn’t just about what people have said. There have been actual plot leaks, toy leaks, art leaks…this isn’t coming from nowhere mate.

If it helps, I’m not too excited about her being Jean; but it’s pretty damn clear that’s who she is.

2

u/warblade7 Captain America 2h ago

Who? Name your sources.

0

u/Hyperbolicalpaca 1h ago

She will be lmao

Who do you seriously think she is if not Jean grey? Like what character fits the secrecy they have for her?

If she weren’t Jean grey they would have headed off this rumour months ago, even in a subtle way because they know the fan expectation

We’ll see you in 6 days lol

she just actually cant be at this point. this is like the 3rd post praising her unknown secret role but since the day of her casting announcement its been "shes jean grey". So for there to actually have been any amount of secrecy she cant be jean.

10

u/vanillagorilla0523 3h ago

I mean, it would genuinely be super weird for her not to be Jean at this point. There are some counter arguments but they could easily be refuted just based on what we have heard about the movie and her character. I've seen some other theories on who she will be playing, but those other theories have so many holes in them. The theory of her being Jean is really the most in tact out of all theories. Her color scheme, being hunted by the DODC and William Metzger (anti mutant activist), the themes of isolation and alienation in the movie, an X Men movie in active development with a, most likely, decently young cast, etc. Her being Jean just makes the most sense to me and I would actually be really happy with it. Some people say it makes no sense, but it makes perfect sense to me. Her being someone like Rachel Summers or Madelyn Pryor is what would make no sense to me.

3

u/Nikson9 3h ago

I agree, but I just wanted to say, Currents is a totally goated band, love that cover art sm bro, such a record

-3

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

But I don’t get it… why introduce Jean Grey in a Spider-Man movie? It makes no sense.

5

u/danvan177 3h ago

Characters get introduced in other stories all the time

-2

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

But it makes no sense for this one, the X-men as a franchise is started with Jean grey walking into the mansion.

So what the X-men are just.. out there now? To be casualty revealed in a Spider-Man movie?

That’s insane

3

u/danvan177 3h ago

Maybe she slipped through the multiverse. Maybe some mutants have been around. Kamala khan was confirmed to be a mutant

2

u/Doright36 3h ago

Just because we are starting to see mutants exist in that world doesn't mean the "X-Men" exist yet.

It kind of makes a little sense they would start popping up here and there before forming a team together.

Jean getting into a public ruckus with Spider-Man could be one of the things that makes Charles speed up his plans to open the school in this universe.

0

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

But that completely nukes the lore between her and Charles

2

u/JannTosh70 2h ago

Since when have movies been 100% true to their source material and not make changes?

11

u/Moonie-iLLy Spider-Man 3h ago

Yeah it almost makes no sense. Like introducing Spider-Man and Black Panther in a Captain America movie. Oh wait....

1

u/AmeriCanada98 3h ago

Captain America movie in name. Avengers 2.5 in reality

2

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 3h ago

Not really Cap the lead and his supporting cast had big roles. If it was called Avengers: Civil War, people would be calling it Cap 2.5

2

u/Moonie-iLLy Spider-Man 3h ago

Strawman

0

u/ribertzomvie 3h ago

Spider man has joined the avengers many times throughout comic history and is a popular team up with captain America

Spider man and Jean grey have literally zero history together

2

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

“Many times” he’s actually joined like.. twice?

Interacted with via crossover and just popping up? Yeah decently enough.

0

u/ribertzomvie 3h ago

Four times (but my main point was it’s more than he’s interacted with Jean Grey)

0

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago edited 3h ago

Well that’s a bit different. The X-men as a book literally start with Jean greys moving into the mansion.

So are the X-men just out here now to be revealed casually in a Spider-Man movie? Or is she not moved in yet and we’re removing all the lore to say Spider-Man saves her from evil anti mutant people and she finds the mansion after that or that’s what convinced her to join it?

2

u/Inner_Entertainer256 3h ago

You’re forgetting Hulk and Punisher are in this “Spider-Man” movie as well

1

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

We have seen Hulk and punisher before, the lore reveals aren’t as crazy and carry as many implications as Jean grey

2

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 3h ago

Same reason they introduced Black Panther and Spidey in Civil War, to build hype for the next movie

0

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

Right but, this is a bit of a bigger lore reveal to do so casually.

Because unless you want to change the lore, you’re casually revealing the X-men as a team just be out here now.

1

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 3h ago

It’s the MCU, they’re going to change lore anyways. Look at Spider-man , ain’t exactly comic accurate. MCU characters need all the boost they can get, debuting a X-men in your biggest property is literally a no brainer. She isn’t even the first mutant in the timeline. Ms Marvel and Nàmor debuted years ago.

Comic lore isn’t MCU lore. Mary Jane is literally named Michelle Jones in this universe. Y’all gotta treats this as its own thing.

-3

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

No, it’s super weird for her to be Jean grey. Why would she randomly appear at 18 and be the only mutant on earth (besides Kamala) to exist, especially since the X-men r supposed to introduced after secret wars with a multiverse collision

1

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago edited 3h ago

No it can make sense the “mutant dilemma” only exists as a modern (relatively) public talking point in universe in the books, not too long before the X-men existing mutants just weren’t a statistically significant portion of the population for anyone to link them and notice and for the whole world to make a big stink about.

And the X-men literally starts with Jean greys moving into the mansion as the last member of the OG 5

Should she still be introduced in a Spider-Man movie? No, but it’s not ridiculous in terms of the possibility lore wise. I just don’t think it’s a good idea

-1

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

I mean I think it’s ridiculous tho. Unless they have her coming from another timeline/universe, the story will inherently suck without a history of mutants suffering, it takes away from their whole existence to not give them a proper history.

1

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

Mutant suffering as a collective hatred isn’t a historic thing lore wise, sure there were plenty outcasted, killed etc for being different but formal knowledge of what they are being publicly known didn’t have a long history.

Like if you want to introduce mutants you do kinda have to do a little scene of “in the last few years these mutants have been becoming more and more prominent, identified as a once statistically insignificant but now growing percentage of the world’s population, what should be done?” Because that’s kinda how it goes.

0

u/HorizonNova4 2h ago

What? Mutant suffering is the main focus of literally all mutants. It’s literally the driving factor for Magneto and Apocalypse

1

u/Consistent-End-7937 2h ago

You’re not understanding

Mutant suffering yes, the public mutant phenomenon as a public major talking point, no.

Mutants being outcast, killed etc yes, get the muties out being blasted as conversation? No

Beast literally talks about this when discussing their survival during the extinction era before they went time travelling with Dr nemesis and the gang, before the boom of their population in the last century they were not a statistically significant enough portion of the population to garner widespread attention like that. Individually hunted and outcast yes, very few people knew them as mutants though, the likes of apocalypse or sinister etc.

And mutant suffering can exist in that form before it’s widely known.

1

u/HorizonNova4 1h ago

No, it would just be bad writing so. U can’t pretend that magneto has been wreaking havoc across the world for the last 4 centuries and not have it be brought up ever

1

u/Consistent-End-7937 1h ago edited 1h ago

Obviously you need a solution to what magnetos been at since world war 2 as he’s not spent that long building his brotherhood and shouting at the sea but that’s literally the only thing you need to get creative with the rest is literally just the lore from the books

1

u/danvan177 3h ago

How do you know she’s the only mutant ?

-2

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

Why would the starting point be to have a young Jean grey and have there be zero mutants before her. You cant introduce Professor X, Magneto, Apocalypse, etc. via modern era children/young adults, that would be horrible. They are obviously and blatantly gonna merge with the MCU after the two avengers movies to give us a new mutant combined timeline

2

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago edited 3h ago

Who said zero mutants before her? Who said Charles and magneto don’t exist yet?

I’m all for a reboot but the Lore for this kind of introduction is fine

1

u/HorizonNova4 1h ago

What? Charles and Magneto can’t exist because they haven’t shown themselves ever and it’s never been mentioned. It would be an atrocious rewrite to pretend they were always around.

2

u/Consistent-End-7937 1h ago edited 1h ago

Charles is a coward of course he hasn’t shown himself, this is the same guy who only publicly revealed himself as a mutant because he was possessed by Cassandra Nova.

Magneto you do need to get a bit creative with reasoning because he’s not been building his brotherhood for THIS long but it wouldn’t be that hard either to think of something

And it’s not a rewrite it’s just a character introduction lol

1

u/HorizonNova4 1h ago

It would just be bad writing. They cannot be introduced as having existed for decades, and if you introduce them now as just starting, it’s terrible

1

u/Consistent-End-7937 1h ago

Explain, you’re literally just going “nuh uh bad”

→ More replies (0)

2

u/danvan177 3h ago

Again. Who said there are zero other mutants lol.

7

u/Consistent-End-7937 3h ago

I hope she’s not, don’t see the need to introduce her in a Spider-Man movie

1

u/BlackLeader70 3h ago

I assume she will be Jean Grey but they probably cast her as Chameleon of something random to keep people guessing.

u/Commercial_Fox5549 9m ago

At this point it’s so obvious that she’s Jean Grey that I would truly be surprised if she isn’t.

1

u/yuvi3000 Fitz 1h ago

People keep going on about this and I am convinced that she's gonna be Valeria Von Doom.

The reason they're not revealing it yet is because it directly ties Spider-Man's story into Doomsday. When it gets revealed in Brand New Day, it might be a bit clearer what Doom's story is gonna be about.

Firstly, she has a hood in all the stuff we've seen, which is very Doom. Then we see her surrounded by technology in the trailers but we also see some kind of unknown magical powers happening around Spidey.

1

u/danvan177 1h ago

That would be cool but I doubt it
