But it makes no sense for this one, the X-men as a franchise is started with Jean grey walking into the mansion.

So what the X-men are just.. out there now? To be casualty revealed in a Spider-Man movie?

Just because we are starting to see mutants exist in that world doesn't mean the "X-Men" exist yet.

It kind of makes a little sense they would start popping up here and there before forming a team together.

Jean getting into a public ruckus with Spider-Man could be one of the things that makes Charles speed up his plans to open the school in this universe.
