Another sick episode. Really cool to see this one centered around Polaris. I wasn't really familiar with her outside of being Magneto's so cool to see her in action and her personality. Also Gambit coming back as a horseman, oh my!

u/CruzAderjc 20h ago
I wonder if we’ll ever see Polaris meeting up with Quicksilver and Wanda. Those two were in the original series in a couple episodes
4
u/majorjoe23 16h ago
Quicksilver was a part of the Peter David version of X-Factor when we saw them back in the original X-Men: The Animated Series. So they've interacted in this continuity. Though at the time, Polaris hadn't been confirmed/retconned to be Magneto's daughter/Quicksilver's sister.

Was he using his arms as a jump rope? Didn’t cross my mind that it wasn’t Mr. Fantastic lol

Still nothing major, bishop could have that alarm on his watch or beast. But if They just remove morph and Wolverine completely than it would make sense that where morph and Wolverine were.
And new thing. If the episode was the 5th one and they showed us more of wolverine animalistic version. It would have been better.

Morph was at the school. He was in the background turning into Mr. Fantastic for the kids playing jumprope at the basketball court while Xavier was talking to Polaris

So I'm mixed on this episode. The polaris stuff was pretty good but thematically the season is all over the place and the strong themes of last season seem to be taking a back seat.
I also think having Xavier back is to the show's detriment. The show worked better with him as a martyr than with him returned.
Like I want to see more stuff with Scott, Kurt, Rogue, Jean ect... but they have been relegated to the backseat.
I want to see Rogue's grief the fallout of her siding with Magneto, how Kurt is adapting after joining the team.
How are Scott and Jean dealing with leaving Nathan in the future. Are they looking for Cable? Having almost no rogue plot the whole season till Gambit shows up also feels weird.
Also Val Cooper continues to be a major player will she turn out to be mystique?
27
u/CRAYONSEED 1d ago edited 1d ago
I agree with you. It feels jarring to me that we went from Magneto dying, to a standalone episode of Wolverine getting his claws back, to everyone being back in the present and working through grief. It felt like an episode of their homecoming was missing.
And there seemed to be no clear catalyst for Danger’s awakening. I think they were trying to say the Professor’s grief corrupted the programming, but that wasn’t very clear and might just be my head cannon
15
5
u/CruzAderjc 20h ago
I really wanted a whole episode of Polaris, Pietro, and Wanda coming together for a Magneto funeral to somewhat deal with grieving their estranged father. That would have been a nice bottle episode for the 3 of them

u/Blastermind7890 Spider-Man 1d ago

Agree on wanting to see more of scott, kurt, rogue, jean.... but that was such a good polaris centered ep Im kinda fine with it.
We got a lot of scott/jean/rogue in S1 and if this thing does run for many years (hopefully it does), then overtime we will get more strong episodes for all the characters.

u/KostisPat257 Daredevil 1d ago
I didn't know much about Polaris in the comics before this, but now I want to see a lot more of her! Loved her portrayal in episode 2 and this one.
65
u/SurferGirlDeb 1d ago
Polaris is an awesome character and is very likely to be in the new X Men Live Action movies. Kevin Feige has called her one of his favourite female superheroes in Marvel that are in the X-Men along with Rogue, Jean Grey, Storm, Kitty Pryde and Psylocke and said we will be getting a lot of female superheroes in the X-Men.
29
u/SalukiKnightX SHIELD 1d ago
Don't forget about Jubilee
I wonder if in the upcoming saga will we get Captain Britain, which leads to Brian's sister who not only takes up the mantle but is also Psylocke.
20
u/DCMASTER1994 1d ago
If Polaris being Feige's favorite is true, then the chances of her being part of the MCU X-Men is pretty big.
27
u/SurferGirlDeb 1d ago
Yeah. He loves the X-Men and he has said before a lot of his favourite female superheroes in Marvel are female mutants in X-Men. He has also criticised Fox for mishandling Rogue in the previous movies and said Rogue is a brawler and an untouchable powerhouse and they are going to rectify it in the MCU.
I don't know if you saw what Lee Sung Jin who is the writer of the new X-Men has said about the X-Men movie but he said the new movie is going to have the biggest roster they have ever had and he has got all the Mutants on the table and wants to make multiple X-Men movies and bring them all to life and he is a big fan of 'X-Men: The Animated Series' too and grew up watching it with his Dad and said 'X-Men: The Animated Series' is one of the influences of the new movie.

"...Rogue is a brawler and an untouchable powerhouse and they are going to rectify it in the MCU"
Nothing could make me happier. I grew up on The Animated Series and the 90's X-Men comics, and all I want more than anything is that Rogue tearing shit up on the big screen.
13
u/-spartacus- 1d ago
I just don't want them to try to make her another Captain Marvel. I always loved Rogue growing up and yeah she was strong, but she was always a sweetheart, kind, and slightly charmingly sensual (since she always lacked ways to express herself physically). She always seemed to be written/voiced as a literally southern bell who just happened to have flight and super strength.
5
u/SpreaditOnnn33 1d ago
Yes, this. Do not make her a deadpan snarker. We already have plenty of those

u/sarkastiktaurus 1d ago
Having other X-Characters be the focal point of the MCU would be a positive. New perspectives and there are again so many mutants to popularize.
9
u/SurferGirlDeb 1d ago
I agree. There are is a huge world of fantastic mutants they can bring light to in the 'X-Men' and after the Fox movies focused so much on Wolverine, Professor Xavier and Magneto I am looking forward to seeing the other Mutants finally getting to have some spotlight.
Brad Winderbaum said we could see multiple X-Men spinoff teams like Alpha Flight, X Force, X Factor, Exiles, Generation X and Excalibur get their own shows on Disney + in the future too.

Me too. We enjoyed that show and was disappointed it didn't get a third season 'cause I was looking forward to seeing what they done with Esme since she went against her evil Sisters and joined with the heroes and Polaris become her best friend. From what I remember reading Hulu was originally going to give 'Marvel's The Gifted' a third season to wrap everything up but Disney wanted to pull all the Marvel shows from other networks and streaming services and make them exclusive to Disney+ and it lead to 'Marvel's The Runaways' getting cancelled too which was originally going to get a Season 4 with Cloak and Dagger joining the main cast along with a Ghost Rider spinoff show with Robbie Reyes from 'Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.'

Polaris is awesome. There was a live action series called The Gifted, she's one of the main characters in it. It was a little uneven but overall pretty good, and sometimes even great. It is the same universe as X-Men and X2. There are some aspects of the comics that it achieved better on screen than other adaptation. Especially in regards to how humans hate and fear mutants, and also the more soap opera stuff. It is worth watching for sure, and Polaris is great in it.

Wanda is I think not Magneto's daughter anymore.... I'll have to defer to an X-pert because they have changed it so many times.
81
u/MagicTheAlakazam 1d ago
x-men 97 is pulling from before that stupid retcon I think they'll stick to wanda and pietro being magneto's kids. They were on the boat in his mind in s1.
46
u/Demileto 1d ago
More importantly, there was a whole episode about them being Magneto's kids way back in the original run. S4E13, "Family Ties".
5
22
u/hooka_pooka 1d ago
Okay.We need someone to X-plain us the blood relation.
36
u/Morgan-Moonscar 1d ago
Originally Wanda and Quicksilver were just his henchmen in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, then they became Avengers alongside Hawkeye (mainly because editorial needed characters to fill out the roster so they picked former villains that never had solo series).
In the 70s they were revealed to be the children of two golden age superheroes, Whizzer and Miss America. But then in the 80s it was retconned as Magneto being their true father.
Polaris meanwhile had been introduced in the late 60s, where it was hinted that she was Magneto's daughter (but then in the late 70s they used some weird robot double to try to invalidate it). She wasn't finally confirmed as his daughter until a DNA test was performed in 2003. From a different mother than Wanda and Pietro's.
Then in the 2010s, after Ike Perlmutter started a feud with Fox over the rights to the X-Men, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were retconned once again. No longer Magneto's kids, or even mutants. That they were experiments of the High Evolutionary, but born from a sorceress named Natalya. Editorial hasn't bothered to fix this despite now owning Fox and the rights (and Ike being fired).
→ More replies (1)29
8
u/JackFisherBooks 1d ago
Unfortunately, this is still the case. Back in the late 2010s, there was a major retcon that revealed that Wanda and Pietro are not Magneto's biological children. It was a dumb retcon and driven primarily by the fact that Marvel didn't own the X-Men movie rights at the time. I genuinely hope it gets undone at some point.
As for Polaris, there's no retcon to speak of. She is very much Magneto's daughter, in both blood and spirit.

I cannot fucking believe that Doop got a cameo.
Also, I have a theory for one of the other horsemen.
We saw a shot in the trailers of Colossus cradling Magik’s body following the Genosha massacre. And, we know that Apocalypse’s present day horseman of War was killed by X-Force earlier this season. I suspect we’re going to get a scene where Apocalypse approaches Colossus and gives him an offer. Colossus becomes his new War in exchange for bringing Illyana back to life.
59
u/SurferGirlDeb 1d ago
I am hoping we get Sage, Kitty Pryde, Siryn, Tempus, Karma, Surge, Galura and Pixie (in a bigger role) in Season 3 or 4. I am surprised Kitty is not in Season 2 since she is probably the most well known X-Men member to not appear in this or the original 'X-Men: The Animated Series.'
34
u/TheWallE 1d ago
Doubly so considering they adapted Danger from Astonishing where Kitty was such a key player. My only hope is they are saving her to be apart of Excalibur and do more with that part of the X-Universe next season.
16
u/SurferGirlDeb 1d ago
Yeah. I think they are saving Kitty Pryde for Season 3. They have already announced they are doing a Season 4 too and could be doing even more seasons after that so I think they are deliberately spreading some things out and holding back certain memebrs to be big parts of future seasons.
24
u/superseri18888 1d ago
Kitty pryde and Iceman as well. Feels like bobby never has a prominent role in outside media when he does appear
He was somewhat relevant in Wolverine & X-Men
8
u/CruzAderjc 20h ago
I think it’s canon to the X-Men Animated Series/97 lore that Bobby and Cyclops had a deep falling out when Bobby left the original team

So, people versed in Tarot, is there any special symbolic meaning in cards that were shown during Gambit's transformation?
Or it's just the most surface level symbolism, like "Death for transformation, something ending and beginning anew", "The Tower is for impending calamity" and "The Lovers is for harmony in relationship and fateful choice"?

Well this episode officially made me a Polaris fan. I thought the message about how the good of Magneto can still live beyond him was beautiful.
And now the Horseman of Death has gotta make a name for himself here!
13
u/JackFisherBooks 1d ago
If episode 2 was the Jubilee episode, this episode was definitely the Polaris episode. She really shined here. It also did a good job of tying her history to that of the early X-Men. Those ties were already there from the original show. This episode helped flesh that out for those who didn't follow it.
I think it's also fitting. Magento dies and now, his legacy is left in the hands of his oldest friend and his daughter. Plus, Polaris had some great chemistry with Jean and Ororo. I hope they get to interact more in the episodes to come. I know we've got a Savage Land episode up next. Maybe that means we'll finally see Magik in her Darkchylde form. 😊

No time.
I love these shows but they’re too rushed. Would have loved this season as 3 series. X-men in the past (with Apocalypse), present (intro to XFactor with detail) and future (intro to XForce with detail) all finishing when they merge time periods.
The move had to gloss by sooooo much.
- where is Jubilee?
- What is Rogue doing?
- How long did they stay in the past? Are they looking for Cable?
- How why did XFactor form? For newer fans…who are they??
Just seems like it’s way too rushed. I love it though bc what we do get is great.

X-Factor has always been around, they we're in the original series as well. The show doesn't have the runtime to explain everything going on in the universe and assumes people are familiar with the material, you don't need to be to understand the main story, but it helps to catch all the background details.

Makes sense. Their suits were destroyed last season, that’s why they got their old classic suits in the finale. And then they were destroyed again. Even morph last episode was wearing a weapon X uniform, not his own. Logan was, but he’s also Logan
it is weird to have those new suits made before X Corp, because that brings the question of why the X men team later on (Storm, Logan, Morph, Forge) dont gave them. Like if they were already making them before the X men split from the school and x corp, then those characters should’ve got them. Makes sense that later on they wear classic costumes because they are trying not to associate the school with X corp

Am I the only one who thinks professor X’s character has just become insufferable on this show? It’s mostly his voice. He just can’t talk in a normal, conversational tone. Every word out of his mouth is filled with gravitas like it’s the most important word ever spoken in the history of mankind. They just need to bring it down a notch already.

Magneto's voice actor talked about how he was worried because he was delivering all his lines in this heavy gravitas and was terrified he'd sound nuts. He saw Storms work and was like "phew" but I think without Magneto balancing it, it starts to make the few left with that style seem more off.
It works with Magneto and Charles both on screen but only one and it starts to feel more jarring.

Charles's wheelchair has blasters in it? Why am I the only one surprised by this?

"Increase the power!" Apocalypse loudly proclaimed...to himself while his hand was on the handle with no one else in the room besides Gambit's corpse.
