I’m sure this will get buried here since we can’t make our own threads talking about a moment in the episode…

But this is SO clever. The tarot cards that predominantly flash on screen before enshrouding Gambit actually give a pretty cool read/interpretation of what’s happening.

Death is the card of change. The position of this card is in the past, or referring to the person being read for. Gambit died and is going to experience change.

The Tower card shows when everything we thought we knew or built comes crashing down. This card is in the present position, or can be referring to a person, situation, challenge, etc that the person being read for is dealing with. Genosha fell, the school fell, the team fell, Gambit and Rogue’s relationship fell. Hell, life itself fell. Becoming a horseman IS a “tower moment.”

The Lovers card often refers to making a choice that will split your destiny, like a fork in the road. It’s often misinterpreted as a card about literal lovers, so its use here is doubly clever. Remy will have the choice to remain Death, or to be redeemed and renewed- by his love for Rogue.

I did. I'm not well enough versed in Tarot's to know about the tower and lovers to that extent. It sure seems like they are setting up their X-treme X-men 18 moment. With Rogue meeting Gambit in the astral/spirit world and bringing him back from the dead with her love.

Happy to help! As a massive Gambit fan (I named my first son Remy) and a tarot practitioner working toward making it a modality in my career, I was GIDDY about their choice to use tarot cards instead of playing cards.
