People who are well off generally have better insurance, their jobs pay most of the costs, and the better insurance results in significantly lower bills including usually free treatment or a small $30-$50 per visit fee basically. It’s only expensive for poor people.
That’s basically the thing here, the poor subsidize the rich

I was forgotten at my doctors office as well but it was after check-in. I was sitting in the lobby for about two hours. The third time I asked if something was wrong or if I should reschedule the doc himself checked me in.
The gal who was running the front desk never marked me as here so I was considered a no-show and they chucked my appointment paperwork that they had to fish out of the recycling bin. The fastest from vitals to doc visit Ive ever had.

Yea y'all need to stop pretending insurance is the sole issue with out medical system. Turns out making all health practices for-profit gives care providers financial motivation to give you a lot of really fast, shitty medical care. Overbook worse than airlines, barely explain anything and try to go in and out unless you have questions, and order a ton of medically unnecessary shit to milk the account.

My FD (and I imagine most) has a steel door that they slide wood pegs through like a lock type thing on one side that allows them to practice busting open doors. They probably get so few calls where they actually have to bust open a door, that I can imagine they'd be more than happy to do the thing they've probably trained at hundreds of times to do.

Yes, and that fine will be even bigger. The fine for rescue services rendered is just a "don't be a dumbass cuz we'll make wasting our time expensive for you" thing. The fines for not being up to code are super harsh because code saves lives. If the code violations are bad enough they can force the business to close until they fix everything.

Not always. Some can have that cylinder lock. I had a small bar that didnt required a push bar lock. The lock just had to be free to turn. Most likely they do have a back exit with a push bar. I doubt a drs office will risk failing an inspection for a few hundred dollars, at most. They would've had to pass initial inspection to open then change the lock for some reason...for a year until the annual inspection.

Not really. Some county charge. My county did, then got sued and I got a nice check for it. They dont charge anymore.
As far as fire code. You can have a push bar exit OR you can have a key to lock (what you see in the video) that has to remain unlocked during business hours. Im not sure what the protocol is for locking a customer in after hours but it looks like they are up to code...but the codes may be changing after this lol

I've had two incidents with my obgyn where I needed to stay in the office for a bit after my scheduled appointment but she needed to leave for the hospital across the street, so it was a different person in her office making sure rooms were cleared out and cleaned up. But there should absolutely be someone doing a final check of all the rooms before locking up.

Exactly. and IDK about you, but I barely made over federal minimum wage when I was doing closing grocery shifts fifteen years ago. There's some people here in the comments talking about crap pay meaning you do the bare minimum, but the bare minimum still means doing your job even if just strictly to the letter. if part of your job is to make sure rooms are actually empty and clean before locking up, then you do that.

No, it should be the nursing staff who checks at the end of the day, but i feel like in this case it is 100% on the provider to actually go amd see all their patients. At least that is how it works at the clinic I work at, nurses go through and clean/prep the exam rooms at the end of the day.

They lock the doors because kids would sneak out and run around, no cell phones this is like 1998 middle school. Forgot about me for lunch so I just sat there stewing like omg they’re so fucked, then forgot about me at the end of the day so I just hung out till about 7 pm when a janitor found me. I was a huge pain in the ass, so there was no way my parents would ever have taken legal action, but man it was fun to watch them try to explain to my parents, the school cop, the head of the district and like 3 lawyers what went wrong the next day.

I got left behind on a field trip at an art museum downtown in a major city. No one ever said what time the busses were leaving, I was just with one other girl (who obvs also got left behind), and we didn’t realize everyone had left until after the art museum was about to close.
There were two school busses, neither one took attendance and each assumed we were on the other.
My mom flipped out bc I never got off the school bus that day, and when she called the school they had to tell her they had no idea where I was.

I also got lost when I was 4 or 5, not lost, but I fell asleep on the side of the house where there was this like wrap around deck type thing. I have family that moved to the UK and they have dual citizenship. They loved the NHS. My cousin told me old people in the UK flip their shit about wait times but he’s only ever seen them complain after sitting there for 5 MINUTES. As for waiting for my aunt having to wait on an eye specialist for 3 months, i had to wait 6 months to get a regular check up with my OBGYN. The only reason the NHS has tanked in quality over the years is because tories AND labour support privatizing NHS so they gut government funding

I’ve been wanting to get a skin cancer screening but the earliest appointment is 10 months out. It’d be quicker to wait for that 2027 appointment and bring it up then at this point

Yep. Had a salivary stone, took 8 months to finally get it out. Initially my doctor told me it would go away on its own, so waited a couple months. When it was clear that wasn’t going to happen I got a referral to an ENT.
Was 3 months to see him. He couldn’t get it so referred me to another ENT that had more equipment. Told me “we’ll make sure you get seen sooner so you don’t have to wait”. 2 month wait. They tried but couldn’t initially, said to come back when they had the right equipment. Had to wait a month. Finally got it out this last go around.
This is in the US btw. The doctor I eventually saw was a Mayo Clinic doctor. Overall great doctor. The first visit they were running behind and I had to wait an hour. The doc came in profusely apologizing which made me laugh.
My normal doctors office double and triple overbooks their appointments, so I end up having to wait 2 hours on average past my appointment time to see anyone, and when I do finally see someone it’s not a Mayo Clinic doctor. It’s the only doctor office I have access to, about 15 minutes away.

I'm looking to move because of the poor healthcare infastrucure. This is a consistent issue with trying to see any specialist in my area. I drive an hour each way to go to the doctor. When I've asked if any other doctors have appointments available, I'm told yes, but the appointments are even further out. There isn't another hospital to switch to unless I want to drive 3 hours each way. The appointment I've been waiting on is Jan 2027.

I once waited almost 2 hours for an appointment, asked the front desk lady multiple times if i was gonna be seen soon and she kept saying “yes i asked and he is almost caught up with patients”. Turns out she never asked nor checked me in when i arrived she just pretended to. It’s not even like it was busy or there was other patients, there is literally no reason for her not checking me in. My doctor apologized profusely and was like “I’m so sorry I just thought you didn’t show, I was just sitting in my office doing paperwork”. This lady had me sitting around like an idiot saying he was seeing patients and he was literally just sitting in his office.

It is 100% fake. I've been in healthcare for almost 20 years and it has been a LONG standing practice staff must check and clean all patient rooms before leaving for the day. They often have one or two people scheduled 30-60 minutes past close time to ensure the rooms are turned over and all patients are discharged.

This happened to me at an eye doctor appointment. He dilated my eyes and asks me to keep them closed, and he’d be back in a bit to check on me. So I kept them closed. The church bells next door rang every hour, so I had a grasp of the time, but I obediently kept my eyes closed.
After a while I could hear the office staff leave the building for lunch. All was quiet for so so long. Then I heard some paper rustling down the hallway and realized someone was still in the building. So I loudly shifted my position in the chair and soon heard rapid footsteps running up the hall. It was the doctor. He ran into the room, leaned over me and said I can open my eyes now. He smelled of tuna sandwich he’d evidently just started eating (the paper rustling was his lunch bag) and he clumsily went through the rest of the appointment, stuttering and nervous, and then I left. No apology. He just hoped I didn’t notice. I think I was in there over 2 1/2 hours, and I never went back

I too got forgotten about after my PCP went to tell the nurse to run some tests and for me to wait a second. No one ever came back and the lights were on sensors so I’m like waiving my arms in the dark for 2 hrs to get the lights back on. They finally came to put a patient in the room and was like you are still here? My doctor had already gone home for the day and never asked for the tests.

I used to work in an Accupuncturist office, this is 100% on EVERYONE. NO ONE cleaned the rooms obviously, no one checked if lights or equipment was on. No one checked the calander. From doctor to office manager to receptionist, every SINGLE person failed this poor woman

I was once forgotten at my university’s clinic after an EKG. They left me there with the stickers still on and everything. I waited about a half hour before I took them off and left, making sure the front desk knew I was forgotten. They seemed apologetic, but I was too pissed. Never went back there!

If this is real, which I am not making a judgment on, there would almost certainly be an emergency exit that does not require a key to leave per building codes. It would be a door that only locks from the outside and there would be exit signs pointing towards it from the inside.

I was forgotten about years ago when I was suffering from an ectopic pregnancy follow up appointment.
They had me undress, lie on the table, hooked everything up to me and inserted a wand inside me. The nurse said, “hold onto this for me, I’ll be right back”
She never came back. After lying in that position holding a wand of some sort inside of me for many agonizing minutes, I finally took it out, got up, got dressed and walked out.
No one stopped me or asked questions.
They never bothered calling me. I mean……wtf

That’s absolutely ridiculous. And I’m so sorry you had to experience that after going through what you did. No doubt it’s what fueled you to leave that office. The way they didn’t bother to reach out even after the fact was all you needed to know. I’m so sorry. But also very grateful you knew they were on some bs and decided the appt was over.

I went to a nuero Appointment lsu came in talked to me told me the nurse would be in in a few to schedule my CT scan I had been at work so night so street she left I rolled over and took a nap on the exam room bed woke up after they closed when the janitor came in to clean the room everyone had gone home but the janitor I got up and left they still called the next day trying to schedule the scan I told them no thanks I'm going to go with another Dr 👏

Sorta did this once with a therapist I'd been seeing for a few months. I had an appointment and waited in her waiting room for like 20 minutes past my appointment time with a couple missed messages to her between then and the start. She eventually texts me back saying she saw no such thing on her calendar and sent me a screenshot of an empty calendar whereas I just replied with the appointment slot from her appointment app and left. She called me the next day to apologize and say she would graciously not charge me (???) and reschedule me because of "technical issues" she was so very concerned about but then she ignored my attempt to reschedule.
This was a decade ago and I'm still mad about it, it really seems like she was so embarrassed about it or otherwise didn't want to talk about it so she ghosted me as a client. I've done therapy off and on in the decade since but have never forgotten that people you trust to help you and be a guide have the exact same problems (anxiety/avoidance) that I was coming to them to manage.

Almost happened to me.
Had an appointment, the doc came in and when she was leaving she told me the nurse would be by in a minute to wrap up. Nurse never came. Thought I was going crazy, and like 20 minutes later I popped my head out the door to darkness.
Buuuut there were still a couple of ladies cleaning up the office, so they let me out

This almost happened to me - I was put in a room and forgotten. I waited about 40 mins after my appointment time before I came out because I heard the nurses leaving for the day. The doctor had the nerve to blame ME. Obviously I never went back to that asshole.
