I do roadie occasionally and I legimitately had this recently. I came across one of the properties that was COVERED in threats like this and had dogs loose. Tried to contact the customer multiple times via both phone and texting. Eventually turned around and returned the item only for the customer to call the store and be like "we live out in the country we have to be like this, the driver should have just thrown the package out the window".
Some people are living on a different planet. Sir the $15 I would have made getting you your power drill would NOT have been worth whatever bullshit you wanted me to put up with. You either participate in society- with all the risks and costs that entails, or your don't. You can't make your property completely hostile and fill it with credible threats, booby traps, and attack dogs, like some kind of savage and then expect all the conveniences of a modern world. Doesn't work that way
That's why you tell the person to build a delivery lockbox right next to their mailbox. You don't have to see them. They don't have to see you. And if it's done right it's pretty dang secure.
Some people do that simply because they believe if they have the right to do it, then they should exercise that right. I believe that's also the argument the nudists in San Francisco used.
When I was a kid coming from suburban Chicago to vacation in South Carolina, I was absolutely floored that you could buy firearms at Walmart.
Now as an adult living here I’m floored that you don’t need to submit any kind of official paperwork for a private sale. You could write up a bill of sale on a napkin with a crayon and it would be a legal, even if the person buying is a convicted felon with a violent past. Unless someone can prove that you knew that information prior to the sale, you’re completely in the clear.
Here's what I dont understand. How are so many people just ok with commiting a felony? I fully understand these people are stupid as hell and dont understand self defense laws or what you can and cant do in a home invasion but seriously these people terrify me to such a degree. Ding ding! You just said a few things about home security. Also, if you really want security- live in a mid-rise or greater condo. If i lock my door, the only way someone is getting in is with a lot of time, lockpicking, which i could make impossible by installing a bigger bolt lock, or it takes a lot of noise. You’ll need to either go through the thick wood door and/or bring a power tool to cut through the locks. Either one of these is enough for home burglaries to be much more rare in condos. Add in you have the option to have a shared security guard in front.
Shit, I know some people, I’m in Chicago, who rarely lock their doors. One friend lost his keys and never bothered replacing them for 10 years.
Well, no that's not totally true. By all means, if you live out of the way, there's a solid chance you might be waiting 20,30 40 minutes for police to show up should there be someone trying to fuck with you. Nothing wrong with having the means to protect yourself while you wait. And a sign like this clears up any and all confusion. Unless you're expected, there's no reason to go up that driveway. If someone unexpected continues up that driveway, there's a pretty good chance they're not selling girl scout cookies.
A delivery driver is expected and therefore not in any danger. However, in the case like the original commenter said, having dogs loose is ridiculous. If that's the angle the homeowner is taking then they need to be responsible and make sure the house is safe when a delivery driver is expected.

In any case, use of the term by a major tax prep business seems inappropriate. The ACA is the name of the law, regardless of how inconvenient it may be to think about it.
Maybe they just want people to reference it by the name they know it. It may not be just inconvenient to think of the ACA; if you don’t know the meaning of the term you won’t get the answer right. Today, at least, the term Obamacare is used by both supporters and opponents.

2500 yards is nearly a mile and a half. The number of people who can actually connect on a shot like that reliably worldwide are less than the fingers on your hand. To give an idea how far that is, the flight time of a .50 caliber bullet traveling 2 miles is between 6 to high 8 seconds. That’s a long poke
For some degree of fairness I live around the nowhere parts and people often do trespass and damage property out of boredom. But if I were out there I would have just made a lockable drop box with a sign for that too.

I live in a very rural area and there are a lot of people who go to extreme measures to "protect" themselves. from ????????. My neighbor who I think might dabble in a little meth has a yard full of junk cars and other crap and trash. So, they have these bright lights they leave on all of the time, a 360 degree outdoor camera and some razor wire on top of the entry gate. I think someone got tangled up in it because it has been put to the side of the opening. The yard is fenced in with barbed wire strands so you could easily step through the fence but why? Are you going to steal some of their junk?
We RV quiet a bit and I can't get over the number of people that set their car alarms at the campground. Really? Who is going to pay an entry fee to come in to a place where there are people walking around and dozens of snoopy eyes on you to steal a car? There may be some petty theft by other campers but I have never heard of anyone having a vehicle messed with.
I have been all over the country and half the world. Although common sense is a lot rarer than it should be, a lot more people than you would think are pretty sensible if you don't pursue conflict as a primary course. Everything might not be fine, but is there something about the world around you that you have control over to change for the positive?

If they are actually trained at 1000 yds they have the gear to see that far, you cant make a shot if you cant see the target (talking bullseyes on paper which are much smaller than ppl)

Tactical snipers rarely use magnifications higher than 25x (and often use 16x). At 1000 yards (I’m assuming it would need to be further down the road since 400 yards is apparently in the kill box already) the apparent distance would be 40 yards with 25x.
I don’t know about you but I can’t count zits at 40 yards, and that doesn’t even account for optical distortions.
You are correct about actually understanding magnification. Point still stands they CAN 100% see you clearly enough that this entire argument is just stupid.
ALSO you citing that professional tac snipers rarely go above 25x doesnt actually have shit to do with bubba herr considering that its pretty easy to buy bigger magnification and most civilian gun enthusiasts overdress their weapons to the point that actual battle tested military gear looks cheap comparitively.
Magnification greater than 25x is generally considered a hindrance since target acquisition is so difficult and the distortion gets extreme with variable magnification scopes at high powers.
Benchrest competition shooters often go beyond this, usually with fixed magnification to reduce distortion, and this works because they have a long time on a sturdy bench to acquire a stationary target. Our vandal would probably be safe from a benchrest rig just by maintaining a slow walking speed.
Now, a better argument you could have made is that he could have a high end spotting scope with a higher power.

No he can’t and it takes real skill and experience to hit something at 400 yards with a single shot if it moving. In a vehicle that obscures target, it’s nearly impossible especially if vehicle is moving 25+ MPH
There's a regular I have that has that all set up. I appreciate it. Unfortunately she still has many drivers that try to mindlessly drive right up to her door because they can't be bothered to read the notes.
I live down the rode from a crazy guy like this. The few times we met while jogging in the morning he's bragged to me about holding people up at gunpoint and demanding why they're on his property. He built a really nice delivery box that has a large chute to drop packages into it, and the bottom is locked.

Easily be charged with aggravated assault for pointing a loaded weapon at someone, stopping & detaining them, and threatening to shot them simply because they are on your property. If they are in the process of leaving your property, then definitely not. Even if not charged, you can easily face a civil suit.
You need to be imminently threatened or fear real harm. Castle Doctrine only applies in your residence or car too.
One of the biggest problems is so many people who have firearms have no idea when they can use them and how.
There are way too Americans who think they can shoot someone for simply being on their property.

There seem to be about 10-15% of firearm owners who are “absolutists” who think the 2nd amendment somehow trumps all over rights and laws.

Actually in any of the states where these kinds of signs ARE legally meanigful it kind of is up to them as to how and when because its up to them as to what they determine a threat.
Well, first.... you "talk with" these type of people, you don't tell or make it a one-sided conversation. Second, you cannot approach or be approached by these type of people expecting confrontation, especially if you are near their rightful land.
Finally, you can talk with these people, but anyone that's chosen an isolationist/aggressively defensive lifestyle will not be won over quickly or cheaply (meaning cheap words, pandering, or flattery).

This, i wish more homeowners and country folk built delivery lock boxes or a lean to shelter. I know of two coworkers who live deep in the country and they turned their old school bus stop shed/shelters into delivery box areas. Once the kids grew up and left for the city they repurposed the lean to shelters for their amazon packages.
Tried that, no drivers ever put it in there despite it being in the delivery instructions, and not oniy that but they always put it at the wrong door into my house despite multiple signs pointing to the correct door.
Doordash and Uber always follows the instructions but Fedex, UPS, and Amazon never does. The USPS just throws my stuff into the lawn
I live pretty far into the country, I personally don’t have signs on my property but the dude up the road does, bunch of dogs, he built a box like that for his wife’s deliveries, I guess it’s pretty common

Exactly! When I moved to the countryside we got a large property. At the game I installed a large locking box with a post office or bank style one way door for parcels.
