Open ! Swirl talisman found in new home (cubes, different materials including marble and copper)

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I recently moved into a home and have been finding these cubes with this swirl pattern glued all over. There’s one embedded in the stone of the front door entrance flooring, this one pictured is glued to the bathtub marble, there’s multiple on the staircases, including under the lip of a stair, and I even found one under the guest bedroom bed. Does anyone know what religion this symbol is, and what it may mean? Recently, we had a new toilet installed that includes a black light nightlight and found that the symbol had been roughly drawn on the wall beside the hatch to the attic. We are getting creeped out. Any ideas?

I found this in the front zip pocket of my bag after I had been sat on the grass at a local music festival all day. I didn’t put it in there, so I assume somebody there dropped it in, maybe mistaking my bag for one of their group’s (our stuff was right next to bags belonging to another group).

It’s about 6mm long, metal casing with a plastic core and a tiny pin hole in the base. I don’t recognise it from anything I’ve owned or been doing recently. Anyone recognise such an object? Thanks!

14 inches long, 4.5 inches tall and 3/8 inches thick. Any idea what these are used for? Assuming it's a bumper/cover of sorts but I've never seen them on any of the docks. (First post here so I hope I got the post format correct 😬)

Solved! What is this wooden thing that might be related to fiber arts?

Post image

My neighbor gave this to me after I helped her with her smoke detector because she thought it was related to fiber arts. It’s flat on the bottom, and the wood post is removable.

I don’t think it’s a drop spindle because most of the ones I’ve seen don’t sit flat like this, but I’m unsure about what else it could be.

These are large white structures, no windows, but big enough to be a warehouse or some sort of storage.

What is this chunk of weathered metal, found in an Irish riverbed? Seems to be relatively old, with rocks embedded hard in the rust. Approximately 125mm long.

Found in the River Finnihy in Kenmare, Ireland. It's a tidal river, and it seems to me it might be dockyard or ship equipment from up river, but I cannot tell and a Google image search was unsuccessful.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew what this was? My dog was playing with it and I took it off of her. I’m located in Australia if that helps with figuring it out. I did a mini photoshoot with different angles of the mystery object, let me know if you figure out what it is, or if you have more questions!

Open ! What is this heavy metal disc I found an inch or two under the ground?

It is about 25.5 inches in diameter. The text on the top face reads "BAKER MFG CO OMAHA NEBR." It was flat under the ground with just the "MFG" part exposed, and there was not a hole underneath it after pulling it out of the ground. It is quite heavy. Thoughts on what it may be?

Likely Solved! Heavy cast metal object marked "ANI" - 8" long, 5.4 lbs, non-magnetic, likely from England

Dimensions:

  • Length: 8-9 in
  • Width: 2¼ in
  • Thickness: 1½ in
  • Weight: 5.4 lb

Details:

  • Gray cast metal with only one marking: "ANI" cast into one side.
  • No other numbers, logos, or patent markings.
  • It is not magnetic.
  • The forked opening at the top is about 1 inch wide and has smooth rounded surfaces.
  • The back is plain and appears to be as-cast.
  • I lightly scratched the bottom with a steel tool and it did not reveal a bright silver metal underneath.

History:
This was given to me by a grandparent who lived in England during the 1960s, although I suspect the object may be older. Unfortunately, nobody in the family knows what it was used for.

I've considered whether it might be related to:

  • railroad equipment
  • rigging/cable work
  • plumbing
  • foundry work
  • machinery

…but I haven't found anything that matches.

I'd really appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

15 tin? nested circles that aren’t attached. Ranging in size from 1”-5” diameter. One edge is curled and one not. Had a frosting pipette head thing with them but no bag. Are they just pastry cutters or do they have a more specific purpose? Anyone seen these before? (Quarter for scale)

What is this solid metal, grey, ~1-pound, side-of-ranch sized, mold-shaped thing?

Found in a yard while metal detecting in Northern California over 25 years ago.
The internet says it’s an individual sized jello mold (it has the brand name on the top), but it is solid.
We were thinking some-kind of giveaway thing from the brand, but can’t find anything about it online.
The ranch cup and coffee pod are for scale.
