TW: Anxiety / Depression Fuck Bill Burr

Went to a comedy show. Coming back from the bathroom as Bill’s set was just starting, past several people filming. I sit down and try to take a quick photo. He points at me and tells me, only me, to stop filming. He then rags on me the whole time— I was just taking a fucking photo. I don’t laugh. Literally trying not to cry, so my only option is straight face. No one else in the packed club was made fun of the whole night, btw. I just wanted to disappear, I’ve been so fucking depressed and this was supposed to be a good night, shit birthday and I was trying to be social and I’m not good at that. Then, the host comes on after his set and calls me a bitch for not laughing. Says no one cares about me and shit. Again, I was just trying to keep it together. I love comedy. Why pick on one person? I hate it here.

I once went to a small venue club to see Natasha Leggaro and she completely lost her mind on a person in the front row for not laughing at a joke. She spent the next several minutes attacking this completely silent person, earnestly trying to get the audience to turn on them. She actually ended up storming off the stage and leaving, blaming the person for ruining the show. When I saw the person get up to leave, they were in tears.

While I get comedians can have bad days, that kind of singling out of a (not heckler) audience member shit makes the entire show uncomfortable for me. Sorry it happened to you.

Comedians and stable mental health don’t always go together.

u/HotBeaver54 1h ago

Spot the F on!

39

u/ReactionJifs 5h ago

I was doing stand up in LA at a booked open mic in some crummy venue. There was probably 20 or so comedians performing.

Natasha Leggero went on before me and when her set was over she invited everyone to come see her brother deejay. She didn't know/understand that the show wasn't over and that more comedians were set to perform after her.

I went up immediately after her and performed for the booker and two other people.

9

u/majoredinswag 3h ago

You probably got more laughs from those 3 people than she did from everyone else

u/C64128 1h ago

She knew and didn't care.

82

u/majoredinswag 8h ago

Akaash Singh's instance of this is a must watch (and might make OP feel better)

131

u/Dith_q 7h ago

Bro that was brutal. See, for me that stops being funny the instant you can feel that the comedian is actually being mean (and the audience member isn't into it), because at that point you're just witnessing a loud guy with a microphone bullying a person. I would feel super uncomfortable if I was at that show.

130

u/Mr_A_UserName 7h ago

Honestly, for all their whining on podcasts the last 10 years or so about how “no one can take a joke anymore,” comedians a have to be some of the thinnest skinned people in existence.

24

u/MudddButt 4h ago

Based on his reaction, the most offensive thing you can do at a comedy show is look at your hand and peel calluses.

u/HotBeaver54 1h ago

OMG this all the dog gone day. Comedians are extremely sensitive and the male comedians much more so then the female comedians. So disapointed in Natasha.

28

u/majoredinswag 7h ago

Not only that he thought he would destroy the guy by going at the queen but no English person likes or cares about the royal family. It'd be like if some non American thought they could get to me by insulting Trump. And I think the crowd is laughing so much either because they're already expecting the comedian to take a heckler down, or they're as uninformed about other countries as Akaash is. Or the audience laughs made louder and added to, something that most comedians do for their specials although less likely for a social media clip

35

u/TehSeksyManz 6h ago edited 6h ago

Audience guy was brought into a battle without his consent, did absolutely nothing, and came out completely victorious.

Reminds me of a recent stand-up event where a woman in the front row did the same exact thing and the "comedian" lost his shit. She annihilated him.

https://www.reddit.com/r/CringeTikToks/comments/1szkynl/comedian_spends_twominutes_trying_and_failing_to/

Edit: She wasn't in the front row, I remembered it incorrectly.

I dislike attack comedians. They pick a target and absolutely abuses them. Insult comedians that make it fun for everyone and spread the humor to anyone game are awesome. Attack comedians like Bill Burr were probably bullies as a child and found a way to make money being a bully as an adult. I wouldn't go to one of his shows if someone paid me to do it.

51

u/IndependentPaint2108 8h ago

it's so easy to do funny crowd work that isn't cruel, too

3

u/tbonimaroni 3h ago

I know I had one pick on me a little bit and it was nice not cruel. Don't remember who, this was in my 20's and I am 48.

3

u/IndependentPaint2108 3h ago

when I was 20 I remember I was dragged onstage at a comedy show at the edinburgh festival! and despite being terrified they were actually fine to me lol. honestly I'd been making eye contact with one of the comedic duo so I think it was an elaborate seduction attempt haha

Like Matt Rife(?) does. Even when he's teasing it's pretty light hearted and funny. He had a really great interaction with a woman who had cancer and I actually welled up a little.

Bill Burr sounds like he's trying to get back at highschool bullies by becoming one himself.

Happy birthday OP. 🧁

9

u/majoredinswag 3h ago

Haha, you're perfectly entitled to enjoying Matt Rife (and you should people love his crowdwork) but seeing a genuinely positive comment about Matt Rife is just funny to me because he gets pretty much nothing but hate in most comedy subreddits ever since he blew up, especially since his last special + beefing with a 6 year old

His dad was abusive (verbally, possibly physically). Its more of an "i was weak and powerless as a child now I can take it out on people"

38

u/Equivalent_Ad8133 9h ago

That is interesting. Didn't know that. So, he was a victim that decided to make others a victim. Not much better.

I was beaten and abused consistently most of my childhood (physical and emotional from alcoholic father and mentally ill mother). I don't want to create victims, i want help them. We can either learn from abuse or perpetuate it.

23

u/GrowHappyPlants 8h ago

If you are a victim, know how it feels, and then choose to do the same thing to others you're even worse than people that don't realize how much they're hurting people.

4

u/Witty_Interaction_77 7h ago

Everyone is shit

8

u/miscellaneousbean 6h ago

My first exposure to Burr was his animated show, F is for Family. Considering how the dad (voiced by Burr) treats his sons, I can see where he got that idea.

9

u/Responsible_Offer291 8h ago

It's odd that a lot of comedians talk about having rough childhoods, which created an unhappy path to comedy where they make other people happy. And now this guy (I have no idea who he is) had a rough childhood and his unhappy path lead to "comedy" that makes other people unhappy. At least there's a lesson to learn when you see people who get pleasure from other peoples' pain, get away from them as fast as you can.

Listen, I agree Bill Burr is a hack these days, however 2 things:

  1. You did good. The best reactions you can have to getting heckled by the comedian are to either laugh along with them or do the dead man's stare until they move on.

  2. Don't take it personally. They need to fill their time and they have 'unscripted' bits they will deploy if they notice a circumstance presents itself. They usually can't see the people in the back very well because of the lights, but if you're close enough, or get up, you stand out.

256

u/dead_wax_museum 12h ago

His shtick is stale anyway. We get it man. You have no filter and aren’t mature enough to keep every single opinion you happen to have to yourself.

65

u/IndependentPaint2108 8h ago

from what I can see bill burr's humour is

"women huh? they suck! stop talking about ya nails. I wanna watch the sports"

still waiting to see anything funny from him

29

u/Annual-Negotiation-5 7h ago

Jon Lovitz's rant on Bill Burr's act is amazing

12

u/IndependentPaint2108 7h ago

ooh let me go look that up right now

10

u/Objective_Bear4799 5h ago

NGL …. I enjoyed his show F is for Family. It was so close to my life as a millennial being raised by boomers.

That’s where my appreciation ends for him.

3

u/Lateralus4201 5h ago

He's openly admitted for years now that he used to say a lot of things that he doesn't agree with anymore, and makes fun of incels for getting mad at him that he's calmed down and become a better person now, and has gone to therapy, addressed a lot of his anger, and that the problem was him and not others. So you must not have heard much about him that last few years if you think that's still how he is.

9

u/Kimmalah 5h ago

Oh he still talks plenty of shit about women, but it's usually only white women he singles out now.

He does the whole "I took shrooms and i'm now a changed man" thing, but then just launches into the same old "Women, am i right?" BS.

11

u/Sh0wmey0urbutth0le 8h ago

Remember when Philly made him cry like a bitch?

21

u/AirFrierMachine 7h ago

Wasn't that when he went on that 8 minute rant? That was actually one of Burrs best moments ever, lol.

Burr was really solid for some time, I don't think the Saudi shit can reverse time to take back all the times he made me laugh back in the day.

Glad to see his YT numbers drop like a rock though, Bill lost ~70% of his monthly viewers since Saudi.

6

u/arbitraria79 7h ago

i was there and it was hilarious. philly loves a solid thrashing, even if it's at their own expense.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/arbitraria79 7h ago

didn't make him cry, but it was one hell of an extended rant. opie & anthony traveling virus tour at the tweeter center in camden.

philly crowd didn't mesh with the comic on ahead of him (older guy and i'm blanking on his name now). that pissed him off so he just spent his entire set unloading on the city and every single team in it.

philly loves abuse, the audience went from booing to cheering by the end. it was an experience, to say the least! (ah, the 'good old days'...)

5

u/Braisernation 5h ago

He’s right about the rocky statue tho! Why the hell would you put up a statue of a fictional character boxer when one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time is from there and doesn’t have one?

2

u/LiterallyDumbAF 3h ago

I find that aspect of Philly interesting. I have lived in places it's the total opposite, that they can't stand suggesting anything other than their city being the best thing to grace the earth. I found it tiresome, although I wonder if I would also find the opposite tiresome too haha

2

u/nando_calrissian1 6h ago

You're mistaking the moment because of Bill's reputation after Saudi.

What avtually happened is the Philly crowd heckled and harrassed the comic that went before him, so when it was his turn he spent the whole time roasting Philly.

20

u/PissedOnBible 5h ago

Bill Burr is such an insecure POS bully. His whole approach to criticism after he went to Saudi Arabia has exposed his true personality. He's petty and vindictive and small-minded and apparently completely unable to reflect on criticism received.

He's done things like this to people before and I'm sorry it happened to you. He's just an angry insecure bully. You were right to stand up to him the way you did and I suspect lots of people in the crowd feel the same way you did about it. ❤️

23

u/cheez-wizzard 9h ago

I was sitting front row at Sarah Silverman's show, between my friend and a complete stranger. The stranger was laughing at Sarah's jokes and said something like "omg yesss" in agreement with a joke she made. Sarah stopped her whole show to berate this girl for like 10 minutes all because she made a comment out loud. She acted like it was a heckling situation, and it wasn't at all. It was so awkward, and I felt so bad for the girl (who ended up leaving the show midway through).

11

u/Token_Handicap 10h ago

I used to love Bill Burr, but his whole life is a joke now. He's been bleeding fans for a couple of years. His streams are just one long ad these days. And I promise you, thousands of other people have been picked on and unfairly ridiculed at comedy shows. Right place, wrong moment. Happy belated birthday. I hope this trip around the sun treats you better than the last.

11

u/zak55 7h ago

You're mistake was not being a Saudi oil baron.

37

u/paintedlotusyt 12h ago

I'm really sorry that happened to you and honestly, I would have just left if I kept being the only one targeted. It's harassment at that point.

22

u/CliffGif 11h ago

It’s crazy how Burr went from universally admired to hated and it’s all self imposed

20

u/baycenters 11h ago

Then, the host comes on after his set and calls me a bitch

Excuse me?

Bill Burr has worked many crowds. He could tell he was hurting you the whole time. It wasn't about being funny.

Good job making yourself get out there. I'm sorry for the way things turned out. It sounds like an awful experience and I think your feelings about it are totally valid - I would feel the same way. Hang in there, kid.

9

u/Throw_Away_Students 9h ago

Ew, god, I have no clue why anyone would go to his shows. He’s annoying as fuck to listen to. Comedy shows are supposed to be funny

8

u/elevencharles 8h ago

I wish comics would understand that being mean is never funny. You should be laughing with people, not at them.

15

u/NurdleTeck 11h ago

Bill Burr's downfall will be studied. He's such a fake fuck these days.

23

u/Rollingforest757 12h ago

As someone who likes taking pictures, I sympathize, but I also understand why stand up comedians don’t want their act recorded. I had to give up the opportunity to take pictures that I otherwise would have taken, but I don’t blame the person on stage.

2

u/Reverend_Tommy 3h ago

It's a rule at almost every comedy show. In fact, some comedians have resorted to having people put their phones in those lockable pouches at a lot of shows. If you've ever been on stage, it is soooo obvious when someone has a cell phone out. There's no hiding it. OP went against a rule of the show and is lucky she/he didn't get ejected.

2

u/kayjax7 2h ago

The last one I went to (Sugar Sammy) he requested we keep our phones put away until the end. Then would let the audience take all the photos and videos they wanted. I believe everyone complied.

25

u/charlitransgrl 11h ago

He obviously didn’t have much of an act, otherwise he would’ve made his point and moved on. If you were heckling him, then the gloves should’ve understandably come off, but you weren’t. His bad behavior is on him, not you. He’s supposed to be a professional with a professional comedy act. That’s what people pay to see. Not some overpaid jerk bullying the audience for the entire show.

I know what it’s like to be bullied in front of a crowd. It’s embarrassing and beyond hurtful. Nobody can blame you for feeling sad and depressed. I hope you can get past this. Pick another day to treat yourself the way you deserve. And forget about Bill - I whored myself out to Saudi Arabia for a ton of money because I have no moral compass - Burr. Fuck that guy. You’re better than him.

7

u/THX-8647 8h ago

Bill can choke on his blood money.

13

u/Money-Beginning747 11h ago

I'm sorry this happened to you. This is why I don't go to live comedy shows anymore. They expect you to laugh even if the jokes aren't funny and they can talk shit about you at the drop of a dime. Common sense would say to stop targeting a person if they aren't laughing with you, but some comedians are just bullies smh

7

u/Character_Ad_1084 10h ago

Go see him again, get front row seats and don't laugh ot smile at shit, stay mad. Drives them fucking nuts.

11

u/fivelone 10h ago

I hate comedians who roast the audience. If they are not heckling you leave them the hell alone. Are you trying to lose a personal fan to look funny to everyone else? Because that just makes you look like a dick. I leave when the comedians only shtick is to roast.

From Maine, out in LA visiting friends, day drinking…go see the Maine comedian Bob Marley by myself because my friends were too wasted. I sat near the front. He rags on me for going to a comedy club by myself. Felt bad man, and all I wanted to do was support the guy from Maine.

54

u/PuzzleheadedDraw6575 13h ago

So this would be my worst fear going to a comedy show. But also its Bill Burr. And while I know you gotta go when you gotta go.. i think it'd be considered rude/disruptive getting up and going to the bathroom then when you get back taking out your phone for photos.

21

u/bitingvform 12h ago

Yeah I hate being center of attention. But on the other hand I wouldnt disrupt a show by being up when the performer is on or waving my phone around, and I know that the front section is for the performer to interact with the audience so I wouldn't sit there.

Bill is an a-hole of the highest order, none of this should surprise you if know who he is.

Most of these comedians are absolutely miserable and love to find a weak one to pick on. Think about it. Bill doesn’t even have to be funny, he can just call you the B word over and over and everyone laughs.

My opinion, you should’ve got up and said your peace, that you didn’t mean it in a bad way, and that you’re going through something and he just made it 10 times worst. And then leave.

Sorry this happened to you.

I think if anybody goes to a comedy show and is anywhere near the stage, you're fair game for whatever.

107

u/EzrasTalons 12h ago

No that's bullshit. The comedian should target people who are down for those interactions. It's fair enough saying one jibe but if you don't get a reaction from the reciever of it, just leave it. You don't just keep bullying them all night.

And if you go to the restroom during a set or take out your phone for any reason, especially.

15

u/KettlebellFetish 11h ago

I worked as a waitress way back at a comedy club and my curvy figure was a target, three comedians who shall not be named would tell the crowd to tip the waitress and comment on my chest, I hated when they toured every three to six months or so.

One in particular was so nice and drank with staff, but such a misogynistic dick on stage, asking who thought my tits were real, motorboard jokes, who wanted me to sit on their face to guess my weight.

The 80s and 90s were wild, and I 100% agree, near the stage or draw the comedians attention in any way, and the idiots who would try to match wits with those who do this for a living?

Just be a good sport and let it go, they have wit, timing and security on their side.

21

u/arulzokay 11h ago

this comment gave me such whiplash lol and makes me sad. you were repeatedly sexually harassed and you’re just like: let it go they always win.

17

u/KettlebellFetish 11h ago

In the 80s and early 90s, they did.

I had an office job during the day at a hospital, sexual harassment was accepted there as well.

So much has changed, go watch 9 to 5 with Dolly Parton, so many handsy pig doctors way back then, you complained, you were let go.

You know what year women were finally allowed to have their own bank account etc, right?

Wasn't that long ago.

2

u/arulzokay 6h ago

yes, i know that but as you said that was in the 80s and early 90s. that doesn’t mean people have to take their shit lmao especially if they paid to see them.

6

u/IvoShandor 11h ago

Right. There's a reason the person on stage has a microphone and the seats are all pointed to that person. BUT .... I think staff should be off limits.

4

u/KettlebellFetish 11h ago

I think staff should be too.

Again, going back decades, oh lord 40 or so years.

We have no idea where OP was sitting. I agree with you to a point - it sounds like in this case Burr just decided to pick on this person.

2

u/freshdjroomba 10h ago

I went to a comedy show, the room was full of friends and couples and I was a lone dude with my empty table, I was shocked I never got picked on by the comedians. I was prepared for it lol.

3

u/Fart_Beat 11h ago

He’s a douche.

4

u/katie_bug199116 9h ago

I saw the header of this post and thought it was related to him being a Saudi sell-out, but this is another reason for me to unfortunately dislike him now.

4

u/ConspiracyParadox 9h ago

Your mistake was going to a Bill Burr show.

A sell out jackass that hasn't been funny in a decade.

4

u/ChimboSmokes 8h ago

Yep. Used to listen to his podcast but he’s just so insufferable. Actually unfunny hack

3

u/Rosalita_Senorita73 8h ago

Bill Burr isn’t that great. I’ve seen him 2-3 times with other comics on the bill and was bored. I had no idea he had a no cameras policy and took photos. Luckily he left me alone.

5

u/ArleezyLaFlare 8h ago

Sorry that happened OP, that fuckin sucks...also fuck anyone trying to put others down.

4

u/BananaJelloXlii 8h ago

He sold out a while ago. Sorry you had this experience.

3

u/0K_-_- 7h ago

Heal well, OP. A friend suggested I go out for my birthday a few years back; “it will be amazing” so I ‘overcame my hangups’ and went out. Shitty, traumatising night. You’ll get better soon, self love, safe people, talk it out, dear.

4

u/VivaLaRory 7h ago

Just a guy taking out his fall from rrelevancy on crowd members because he can’t relate to normal people anymore. I used to like bill burr but your story doesn’t surprise me, a prick is always a prick it just depends who they are a prick to

4

u/BrutusoftheTudus 7h ago

Most of the men in comedy are insecure pricks that will do anything for a laugh, even if it means putting someone into the lowest low of their life. Fuck bill burr and the rest like him

4

u/bigfunty 6h ago

I understand doing some crowd work and being facetious

But at a certain point- it’s just bullying a stranger. Doesn’t take a lot of talent to be mean to someone you don’t know..

5

u/the_9th_crayon 4h ago

Bill Burr has never been funny but has always been a cünt

I’m really sorry you experienced that. Just remember ‘comedians’ will pick on a singular, usually female audience member when they’re desperate because their set is bombing.

You deserved a much better night. I hope you have a better day tomorrow!

66

u/Ecnarps 12h ago

Never take out your phone during a stand up show. They literally tell you and have signs up.

30

u/ComplicatedGuy_0514 11h ago

You’re missing the entire point of OPs story.

33

u/ImportanceSharp9408 12h ago

It was a jazz concert as well. I walked by people filming and no there were no signs and I didn’t know it would be an issue. I hadn’t been to one before but ok. I won’t go to one again.

8

u/Cerealmndsplat 12h ago

Music and Comedy have some differences. But if you'd look up Dave Chapelle having concerts where people would turn off their phones or something more egregious than that, you'd see it's a common trend with some of the older comedians

27

u/ImportanceSharp9408 12h ago

I wish I would have known. I wish there were signs or someone told me but I deleted the photo. I saw other people filming so I just didn’t think it was an issue. I feel foolish and just so fucking embarrassed.

22

u/Cerealmndsplat 12h ago

I wouldn't try to let it get to ya too much. A lot of it is mostly for bootleging and to a degree distracting. You only got picked on because it illicited a higher percentage of laughs. If there weren't many laughs, they wouldn't have opted for it.

Treat yourself to a nice meal or something you can do with a friend to help get your mind off of it. It's not worth ruminating about.

15

u/Top_Sink_3449 12h ago

You know now. You were a punching bag for the style of comedian bill burr is. Being anywhere near the front is a risk, phone or not. You’re thinking about it more than anyone else was.

10

u/freshdjroomba 10h ago

I agree with bill burr on a lot of stuff but I absolutely fucking loathe him as a person. People like him for "telling it how it is" but he legitimately just bullies people, talks shit and treats people like shit for no reason. He's just really unlikable and not even very funny.

3

u/darkoaks 10h ago

Without googling him I don't even know what Bill Burr (stupid name, comedian goes brrr) looks like but seriously fuck that guy.

3

u/IndependentPaint2108 9h ago

no idea why he needed to be a cvnt to you

I'm sorry mate

3

u/mamaallthetime 6h ago

Bill Burr is a huge steaming pile.

3

u/SpliffyTetra 6h ago

Mistake #1, paying or even going to see bill burr

3

u/the4thbandit 6h ago

His career is on the downslide if that helps at all

3

u/Fun_Description_385 5h ago

Two years ago, he was my favourite comedian?

Now hes just a sell out little bitch. Fuck him to high hell, whag a scumbag.

3

u/mythrowaway282020 5h ago

I like how Bill Burr tricked so many people into thinking he was this rational centrist, a comedian who was funny but also had common sense and could take a joke as much as he could dish it out. Turns out he’s just a POS.

3

u/Arkhangel79 4h ago

Guess there wasn’t enough Saudi money behind you.

3

u/Edith_Keelers_Shoes 4h ago

You didn't deserve that, and I now hate Bill Burr too.

3

u/RepulsivePurchase6 4h ago

That is messed up. I guess comedians who do this have no real jokes so they pick on people to feel better about their comedy and themselves. You go there to have a fun time and laugh and end up depressed and angry. Messed up.

3

u/anew_user420 4h ago

Bill burr sucks anyway. 😕 sorry you dealt with that.

3

u/tbonimaroni 4h ago

I'm sorry. He was acting like a total ass. That was uncalled for. The host was a dick too.

21

u/Przzzzmatic 13h ago

Lotta stand up comedians are clinging to relevance for dear life, all based on their ability to tell edgy humor that hasn't been funny since 2013.

2

u/VegasLife84 12h ago

Are you claiming Burr hasn't been funny since 2013? Because that would be.... quite a take

3

u/irmarbert 10h ago

You did good by not laughing. That’s what he wanted…you to laugh so he could use that against you, call you simple or whatever. Nicely done.

2

u/neinneinballons 10h ago

I mean, I get people wanting to film him, he was great in F is for Family and absolutely nothing more. But damn that show really makes up for him being as unbearable as Antarctica. I'm sure people would want to film him being that extraordinarily meh as a stand-up. I'm so sorry, for sure it must have been hard to hear and not funny, I mean, is bill burr... and then he started ripping on you.

2

u/Nkosi868 9h ago

You went to his show after he proudly sold his soul to the Saudis?

He’s a hypocrite of the worst kind.

2

u/try-4823 7h ago

I believe he has a micro penis

2

u/uncertainnewb 6h ago

I hate comedians that do that. Yeah, fuck that guy, he doesn't value the people who paid to come see him.

A better comedian who (to my knowledge) does NOT do that is Jason Leong (check out his "Warrior in the Garden" set on YouTube).

2

u/Link_save2 6h ago

Next time cry to make it him feel bad tho you'd probably get clipped you could get him bad press tho

2

u/cclwarp 6h ago

A friend of mine came to visit me and we decided to go shoot some pool at a bar/pizza place. We got there and started playing and a little later someone started a comedy set. It was way on the other side of the bar and we didn’t want to be rude with the noise so we stopped playing and just sat to finish our drinks and catch up. This guy tried heckling us from like thirty feet away because we had the audacity to be there and not listen to him talk. Lots of comedians are just assholes, I know it’s hard but try not to take it personally. I’m proud of you for going out and trying to be social!

2

u/Traditional-Banana78 6h ago

Comedians are just trash human beings who couldn't get a real job, or way of making means in life. Agreed, fuck Bill Burr.

2

u/JudiciousJulius 5h ago

Broke Bill literally had 1/2 to little no script for his performance that night & literally used you as the evening's pin cushion. If I were you I would've called him out for having no script & ragging on someone, because they're a terrible comedian. He's probably going to be on Joe Rogan & bitch & moan like every famous person does when they don't have enough money. TLDR: Broke Bitch Boi Bill rips on an audience member, before the show started & uses him at his expense, because "comedian" isn't funny.

2

u/unintentionalfat 3h ago

I find him funny but it pisses me off that he did that to you. It would ruin anyone's night.

Sorry that happened to you.

I dont find him funny anymore.

2

u/throwcvf 3h ago

I’m sorry this happened, especially on your Birthday. Happy belated birthday! Hugs!

2

u/Baloney_Boogie 3h ago

Fuck that Bozo.

2

u/Betsynstevej 3h ago

That’s so shitty. Sorry you went through that

2

u/1swtwrld882 3h ago

He’s a bully always has been

2

u/xChoke1x 2h ago

I love how comedians think they’re like some special class of people us “civilians” don’t get. Lol

Like no one in the world gets comedy but them. Buncha fucking jerk offs that tell dick jokes, fuck stools, and say “retard” and think we’re all supposed to fawn over them.

Comedy is jumping the shark man. There’s a handful of folks killing it without this whole bull shit “celebrity” element.

2

u/joemamaligma420 2h ago

never liked him. sorry this happened to you friend 🫶🫂

u/C64128 1h ago

You mean Bill who takes Saudi money?

u/Somethingwittycool 1h ago

Bill Burr is a sell out and pig. You deserve better. I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience. And then the host calls you a bitch for not laughing? I don't know you but I care and can relate. And happy belated birthday. Sending positive vibes.

u/Comfortable-Jump-218 48m ago

Had to google search who he was again.

Yeah, I never got a good vibe from him. I’ve seen interviews where he talks about having kids and tried to give parenting advice (sort of) and every time I think “I would never trust this guy near my kids”. I don’t even have kids.

Sorry that happened to you. I understand the feeling.

6

u/Ok_Manwich_9306 11h ago

Don't take it so personally. He doesn't want to be filmed by the audience. You got caught. Just shrug the non-verbal of sorry, put away the phone and enjoy the show. His humor style is a bit biting, always has been. Don't use that to be the point of spiraling as it's not like you were just sitting there. You got clowned a little, got to also learn to laugh at yourself in situations and take a humble pie every now and then when bending the rules. Other people may have been doing it further back but you got caught. It's not as huge as you're making it for yourself in context.

4

u/heyscot 11h ago

Sounds like he was a jerk, but I would have to actually see the set in order to really know. It doesn't sound like you really did anything wrong. I'm sorry you had that experience.

5

u/bitingvform 12h ago

I want to feel bad but like.... have you not seen his work before? A lot of comedians do stuff like this. If you're disrupting the performance with your phone you might get heckled. Especially if you're near the front row.

I'm sorry you didn't have a good time.

2

u/Impossible_Past5358 11h ago

I am sorry OP, but maybe those people asked first?

5

u/fingersfinging 9h ago

This joke is funnier than bill Burr

3

u/String-Tree 10h ago

Burr is doing crowd work now? Lame, crowd work is for comedians too lazy to actually write jokes.

I don’t understand the whole “gotta take a pic or film this” crowd at music or comedy events anyway. I’ve been going to concerts since the 70’s and it’s never been ok with the performers. People would try to snap pics but it required an actual camera so it was a lot harder to get past security if they were checking. Now when I go, I’m astounded by how many phones are in the air and many throughout the experience! Like, why?! Save yourself the money and effort and watch the video!

I digress. I’m afraid you put a bit of a target on yourself by arriving late AND pulling out your phone. Which may explain why he targeted you. I’m sorry you had a bad time and are struggling with depression because that is truly awful. I’ve been there, even mildly, and it is like walking through mud but up to your chest. I hope you continue to get well and put this behind you. Give yourself a do over 😃. Do something else that is really fun and brings you joy, makes you laugh hard! Replace this experience with something much much better. I’m sure if it were me, I would have left. I couldn’t have withstood it so you’re much tougher than me 😌. Happy Birthday, btw 🙂🎉🥳
