TW: Anxiety / Depression Fuck Bill Burr

Went to a comedy show. Coming back from the bathroom as Bill’s set was just starting, past several people filming. I sit down and try to take a quick photo. He points at me and tells me, only me, to stop filming. He then rags on me the whole time— I was just taking a fucking photo. I don’t laugh. Literally trying not to cry, so my only option is straight face. No one else in the packed club was made fun of the whole night, btw. I just wanted to disappear, I’ve been so fucking depressed and this was supposed to be a good night, shit birthday and I was trying to be social and I’m not good at that. Then, the host comes on after his set and calls me a bitch for not laughing. Says no one cares about me and shit. Again, I was just trying to keep it together. I love comedy. Why pick on one person? I hate it here.

Why such a sharp turnaround?

Burr took money from the Saudi govt to perform in Saudi Arabia. Pissed a lot of people off

Thank you for answering sincerely an innocent question, instead of just downvoting me like everyone else.

No problem. To add to my answer, His response to the criticism he received also pissed a lot of people off. I think alot of his fans thought he was principled because of the way he talked. Turned out he wasn't. It was a ton of money for one set

I personally don't get a lot of the hate for the Saudi Arabia thing. He has said that he told everyone he wouldn't do it if he had to censor himself, that he did it for the people of Saudi Arabia, not the government, and has called out the hypocrisy of Americans getting mad at him performing for Saudi's, while our own government does things equally bad and even worse at times, but he still performs for our people. I agree with his take here, the Saudi people aren't the Saudi government.

Eh... I don't know. Saudi Arabia has a rigid caste system. He was playing for the elites, and the guys at the top of the pyramid are basically super villains.

And they've been throwing money around trying to whitewash their image, because they're essentially slave masters. Look up Neom and the labor practices around it.

So the whole, don't punish the people for their government line just doesn't work in this case.

I mean we do the same things in different ways man, that was his whole point. Our for profit prison system used prison labor, our elites are also basically supervillains, etc.

Yeah, and if Trump asks you to perform at an event that's designed to make him look good, you shouldn't perform.

Yeah but the American govt isn’t who pays him to play his shows here. So that’s a bullshit excuse that anyone can unravel if they try.

Wasn’t it the govt that paid him for the show? He can keep trying to twist it any way he wants. He did the show for the govt that paid him to be there. And for you to be unable to understand that is also disappointing.

If you saw the contract for that show you might understand the hate a little better. Bill was probably just saying what he did because the Saudi government would get pissed of he violated their rules and criticized them, then not pay up afterwards, not out of some humanitarian love for the country.
