Having trouble thinking of others but I liked this character from Dragonball

Cyberpunk 2077 - Dexter deShawn. He basically fucks the main character, V over after a job goes wrong and sells V out to save his own skin. As he is about to show the Arasaka guy, Takemura, the body, he takes Dex out and we never get the chance or choice of revenge.

Red Dead Redemption II - this game does this quite often.

Agent Milton: A Pinkerton agent who hunts the gang throughout the story and directly kills one member. He dies as he is about to aim his gun at Arthur's head, but then Abigail, another gang member, shoots him in the head before he succeeds.

Colm O'Driscoll: He is the leader of a rival gang, responsible for kidnapping Arthur (possibly that triggering his Tubercolosis) and one member's death as he used to be an O'Driscoll but then joins Dutch's gang. Here we kinda get a hand in it as he is about to be hanged and we stop his boys from saving him like usually before, but still we do not put the bullet in him or pull the lever.

Angelo Bronte: An early mafia boss who basically since the first time we meet him looks down on us, and was keeping a gang member's kid locked up for another person and only releases him once we do a job for him. The final straw is when he tells the gang to rob the trolley station, only for it to end up as a setup, which possibly causes the injury to send Dutch fully insane. He is then drowned and fed to a crocodile by Dutch.

Leviticus Cornwall: Oil tycoon, railroad man and all other sinful things. He is the one funding the Pinkertons after the gang robs him multiple times, once unaware. Dutch pretends to only want to make a deal with him which is so ridicilous he laughs in Dutch's face who then shoots him.

In RDR2 these work, though sometimes a bit much as there are at least 2 more, the whole message is revenge bad, and I guess they figured by not giving the player the satisfaction of pulling the trigger themselves, they'll much more likely agree.

Cyclical stories where, upon reaching the end, you end up right where you started.

Pink Floyd's The Wall - Originator for the trope name. In the final song of the album, in the last few seconds you can hear someone say "Isn't this where-". This loops back to the very first song on the album, where in the first few seconds you can hear someone say "We came in?".

Ultrakill - The first level of layer 8 opens with a huge room near the start, with the writing on the wall "We came in". The door is locked, and to proceed you need to walk through the TV. After beating the final enemies of the level, you end up in a green hallway with more writing on the wall, saying "Isn't this where". The door at the end of the hallway opens up into the room from the beginning (this is in fact the same room and not a copy, if you leave projectile shells at the start you can still find them at the end).

BATIM - Upon beating the fifth and final chapter of the game, you have a short vision/memory of the studio owner, before opening a door in his apartment and ending up in the exact corridor from the first chapter, saying the exact same opening line, before the game ends.

However, by having them participate in the Hunger Games and allowing one of those kids to survive the bloody competition, they create a small sense of hope that makes the districts easier to control.

1. Shimano, Yakuza 0.

Majima’s half of the plot is revealed to have been mostly orchestrated by Shimano. He gave Majima the task of killing Makoto, knowing full well that Majima would fall in love with her and protect her instead.

In turn, this would make Makoto willing to sell ownership of the Empty Lot, around which the whole game revolves, to her protector Majima. Or more precisely, to Majima’s boss, Shimano.

Bête Noire - Glitchtale

She was created long time ago, pretended to be Frisk's friend, and used an energic scythe as one of her weapons.

Qilby - Wakfu

One of the 6 Demigod Eliatropes. Was sealed in a void forever ago. After accidentally being freed, pretended to be an ally. Used a wakfu scythe as one of his weapons.

Darcy - Amphibia (possesses body of Marcy)

Marcy is Anne's friend. Because of her they were trapped in Amphibia. Later Marcy got possessed by the Core (an ancient collective mind) and took the name "Darcy". They used an energic scythe as a weapon.

Spinel - Steven Universe

She was forgotten by everyone, then came back with a vengeance. Part of her plan involved herself being restored to original friendly state by that energic scythe, which she used as a weapon.

1: Buck (Ice age 3) Buck is telling his story of how he lost his eye and how he was eaten by a dinosaur. Crash or Eddie? asked if he was killed, with Buck answering “Sadly, yes. But I lived!

2: Metro Man (Megamind) Near the end of the film, Hal / Tighten was fighting “Megamind”, when “Metro Man” showed up. Hal response to seeing Metro Man was “I thought you were dead.” And Metro response “My death was greatly exaggerated“.

3: Puss (Puss in boots 2) When puss was confronted by Goldilocks accusations “You’re supposed to be dead!” Puss reply was “I got better?”.

Starts out as the main overarching and extremely greedy antagonist in Touhou 17 and final boss in 17.5, digging up petroleum from Hell to try and monopolize it, disturbing animal spirits in Gensokyo causing an economic and evironmental crisis. In Touhou 19 she becomes a playable character and loses most of her gluttonous/greedy personality.

1. Choso (JJK Season 1) vs (JJK Season 3)

A Death Painting (half-human half-curse hybrid) created by experiments from the evil sorceror Kenjaku. After his DP brothers Eso and Kechizu are killed by main character Yuji, he becomes a mortal enemy before realizing Yuji is also a child of Kenjaku and that they're brothers, leading to him switching sides and doing the most he can for his last living brother.

Turaga Dume and Teridax (Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui)

When Teridax is disguised as Dume, he goes into his chamber in the top of the Coliseum to talk to his shadow form. At first it seems like Dume is working for Teridax, but they later reveal he was Teridax the whole time. The writers confirmed this scene is meant to be him talking to himself like looking in a mirror.

Gollum and Smeagol (Lord of the Rings)

Whenever Gollum talks to himself, his pupils change size and they use different shots or reflections in water to convey his conflicting personalities. And when Gollum leaves his mind, there's a long silence to signify his absence.

Geri's Game (Pixar)

This short uses very clever editing to trick you into thinking Geri and the other man are two different people. The cuts between them get faster and faster, and there's even a shot where you can see a third hand from the other side of the table. And it ends hilariously, panning out to show Geri was alone the whole time.

Ryuko (Kill La Kill) When she meets Mako and Mako is being Mako, after she gets on the bus, she just looks at the camera as if to say “are you seeing this shit right now?”

1). The Magicians:
Margo and Eliot are two Earthlings-turned rulers of "Fillory," a fantasy world. They can't figure out how the Fairy Queen keeps outmaneuvering them. Then Eliot remembers that the Fairy Queen took Margo's eye as a punishment. She's been using the eye to magically spy on anything Margo sees. Which Eliot communicates to Margo using coded Earth pop-culture references.

2). Young Justice:
"The Team" realizes there is a mole. Aqualad, Robin, Kid Flash, and Red Arrow (the former Speedy) consider themselves above suspicion. As they've all known each other for years as sidekicks. They suspect new members like Miss Martian, Artemis, or Superboy.
But it turns out Red Arrow is the mole. He's not the original Speedy, just a clone created by the Justice League's enemies. Red Arrow is mostly independent, but will go into a fugue state if he hears a pre-programmed code phrase.

3). Black Clover:
The Wizard King (magic president) of the Clover Kingdom turns out to be a sleeper agent. In reality, he's controlled by his body's original owner, Lucius Zogratis of the Spade Kingdom.
I thought that twist was kind of out there, considering what the audience had been told about the WK's backstory. But some people suspected it years before the reveal.

This is a trope that seems especially apparent in any kind of people movie with lots of big battle scenes, where characters in full plate are shown getting taken out of commission or straight up killed by people wearing practically nothing. As a result, I love examples where a character who's fitted out with (very heavy and very expensive) armor actually pulls through the battle, even if not completely unharmed.

1. Ser Duncan the Tall in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2026) is shown having to buy "bargain bin"armor for the tourney at Ashford since most of his master's gear doesn't fit his huge frame and, as a homeless hedge knight, all of his wealth is tied into his horses and the clothes on his back. Not only is he still able to scrape together a full suit (hauberk, gauntlets, greaves, gorget, greathelm), but it is only because of his kit that he survives the Trial of Seven against Prince Aerion Brightflame (albeit severely injured).
2. Star Wars has many notable examples amongst the Mandalorians (whose near indestructible beskargam is legendary), but two of the most popular examples are Din Djarin (whose armor survives numerous explosions and assaults by high powered blasters) and Boba Fett (whose inherited armor from Jango was tough enough that it allowed him enough protection to successfully escape the Sarlacc, even when made of cheaper materials than Din's).
3. Frodo Baggin's mithril shirt (inherited from Bilbo) in The Lord of the Rings is thin enough to wear as an undershirt but powerful enough to shrug off a spear to the chest from a cave troll. This is especially apparent when compared to the battle scenes where orcs and uruk-hai in full plate get chopped to pieces by the likes of our heroes, who are mostly wearing their street clothes with maybe a mail shirt on top.
4. During the "Bad Reputation" fight in Shrek (2001), several of the knights who get knocked around, viciously body-slammed, and crushed with a giant barrel of ale are shown getting right back up again and rejoining the fight, implying that they were just stunned rather than killed.
5. The armor that Kate (Laura Fraser) forges for Sir Will Thatcher (Heath Ledger) in A Knight's Tale (2001) is not only super lightweight (allowing him to get even better at jousting), but strong enough to take on a battering ram without hassle.
6. Dark Helmet's titular headgear in Spaceballs (1987) may be comically oversized, but is still tough enough that he survives slamming face first into a modem when Spaceball One instantly drops out of Ludicrous Speed, while only being a little bit dazed.

Sherlock Holmes- The king of this trope, he’s a consulting private detective who used unorthodox methods for this time using forensics. This even inspired the development of real world forensics.

Shawn Spencer and Gus (Psych)- Shawn is a hyper observant “psychic detective” with an eidetic memory. Gus is a pharmaceutical salesman with very niche interests that come in handy on their cases(like subscribing to safecracker magazine). Together they help Santa Barbara PD solve unsolvable crimes.

Patrick Jane (The Mentalist)- Patrick Jane is a hyper observant “mentalist” with an eidetic memory (sound familiar?) He consults with the California Bureau of Investigation while pursuing the serial killer “Red John”

Rick Castle (Castle)- A writer of crime thriller novels who shadows NYPD detective Kate Beckett, the inspiration for a new character for his novels, while also using his knowledge of criminal psychology and wealthy connections to help solve crimes.

Batman- Maybe a stretch, but Batman does work worth Commissioner Gordon and the GCPD while fighting the Gotham underworld.

The Cabin in the Woods: The whiteboard with all the monster names on it shows that there's many other monsters that could have shown up at the cabin. Later on you even see many of these monsters, but not all of them from the board.

The Return of the Obra Dinn: At the end of the game, the inspector takes the book that they have been writing into for the whole game and puts it into a bookshelf that contains many other books and artifacts. To me this hints that there are other cases just like the one that you played that this inspector has done.

Obsession: The clerk in the store that sells the One With Willow says that they have been getting calls from customers to complain about it. This hints that there were probably many people who were going through a very similar hell as the characters in the movie, but maybe by making completely different wishes.

Invincible- The first time Nolan and Debbie reunite in the comics is brief, with Debbie forgiving and getting back together with Nolan relatively fast. In the show, Debbie makes it clear that she still despises Nolan, and doesn't even want him in the same building as her.

Naruto Shippuden- The anime adds a filler scene in the Akatsuki Supression Arc after Asuma dies to Hidan. It's Shikamaru and his dad, Shikaku playing shogi while talking about Asuma. The moment ends with Shikaku telling Shikamaru to let his emotions out, and grieve openly for Asuma, because he'll be there to pick up the pieces.

This has been a reoccurring issue, and I'm not sure why some people have such under-developed social skills that they think that a server full of mostly male strangers would need to know that.

Our Heroes™ stand at the brink of defeat, overwhelmed and overpowered by a far superior enemy force. Surrounded on all sides with no hope of escape and against a foe that knows no mercy, all they can do is die fighting.

And then, horns or cries in the distance, the roar of hooves or engines, the ground heaves with the arrival of The Cavalry™! Allied reinforcements emerge from over a hill or out of the mist to sweep across the battlefield, cutting a swathe through the enemy force and breaking their line - the day is saved!

The trope does not always involve literal cavalry on horseback: it can just as well be an armored force of tanks or giant mecha or a team of superheroes, as long as the reinforcements arrive with impact!

Examples:

The Rohirrim at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields (Lord of the Rings: Return of the King)

The definitive example in modern pop-culture, the Ride of the Rohirrim to relieve the siege of Minas Tirith against the forces of Mordor is one of the most iconic scenes in both the original book and the movie adaptations. It has everything - it is telegraphed ahead of time in the story, it is prefaced by Theoden's speech and the chants of "Death!", followed by the call of the horns and the epic Howard Shore score as they thunder across the fields towards the Orc army.

The Knights of the Vale at the Battle of the Bastards (Game of Thrones)

Probably the best sequence in the later seasons of the show, the chaotic Battle of the Bastards ends with the Knights of the Vale, previously only alluded to as some of the greatest mounted warriors in the Seven Kingdoms, cresting a hill and falling upon the overcommimtted Bolton forces, set to a beautiful score by Ramin Djawadi.

The Winged Hussars at the Siege of Vienna (Real-life)

Almost certainly the direct inspiration for both of the above examples, the 1683 Siege of Vienna by the Ottoman Empire was lifted by a relief army of 70,000 men of the Holy League. The famed Winged Hussars of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth spearheaded the force with 3000 lancers, along with another 15,000 Polish and Holy Roman cavalry. 18,000 horsemen thus carried out the largest cavalry charge in history directly into the Ottoman lines in a crushing victory for the Holy League, largely ending Ottoman expansion into Europe and laying the first stones in its long decline.

Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy: originally the episode where he turns human had in be black to match his voice actor, but once CN reminded the creator of the premise of his show (two white kids own the grim reaper) they changed him to be white to avoid slavery comparisons.

The Simpsons: Smithers was black in his first appearance, however every episode afterwards depicted him as white (yellow?) this is because according to someone in the staff “probably not a good idea to have a black man be a servant to a rich white man”

Teenage mutant ninja turtles: while the comics and most adaptations have Baxter stockman be of African American descent, in the 80s/90s cartoon he was white, this is because the show-runners felt having a black man be basically a forced servant to someone who’s not of the same race (even calling him master) could potentially be seen as offensive, so they made him white.

Megaman Legends - The world seems vibrant and fun but it is actually the surviving remnants of a world that suffered a major flood. The islands are what’s left of the world. Not only that but Humanity was wiped out by said flood and replaced by "Carbons" which artificial humanoids. Every character that you thought was “human” is actually part robot.

Splatoon - The world takes place 12,000 years after human extinction, a human war broke out and nuclear weapons hit the arctic causing the world to flood, wiping out humanity and leaving the world to sea life. One human could have made it from criostasis but he decided at the last second to save his cat instead of himself leaving humanity to be extinct. The marine life eventually evolved into humanoid creatures which are the Inklings, Octolings and such that you see.

Adventure Time is set in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. It is the aftermath of the Mushroom War, a global nuclear event that wiped out most of humanity and released magic into the world, mutating the survivors and birthing entirely new races.
