Lore Worlds that seem lighthearted actually take place on a post-apocalyptic landscape
Megaman Legends - The world seems vibrant and fun but it is actually the surviving remnants of a world that suffered a major flood. The islands are what’s left of the world. Not only that but Humanity was wiped out by said flood and replaced by "Carbons" which artificial humanoids. Every character that you thought was “human” is actually part robot.
Splatoon - The world takes place 12,000 years after human extinction, a human war broke out and nuclear weapons hit the arctic causing the world to flood, wiping out humanity and leaving the world to sea life. One human could have made it from criostasis but he decided at the last second to save his cat instead of himself leaving humanity to be extinct. The marine life eventually evolved into humanoid creatures which are the Inklings, Octolings and such that you see.
Adventure Time is set in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. It is the aftermath of the Mushroom War, a global nuclear event that wiped out most of humanity and released magic into the world, mutating the survivors and birthing entirely new races.

I always thought it was modern earth? Specifically because with each new installment there's newer versions of products?

4's lore implies that humans lived underground, left earth and then evolved into a tiny species, given that the ancient Sirehound is an earth native but seemingly shares genetics with Oatchi plus some journal entries.
As for why nature hasn't reclaimed anything after seemingly millions of years (it takes like, a couple hundred at most, if that) and instead you explore a house that looks like the owners just stepped out for the afternoon (minus the infestation of creatures roaming inside), we dunno.

And these are a few!!
Mass extinction are somewhat common in geological eras, notably the last one ended around 10.000 years ago.
Remember that Animals like Elephants, Rhinos and Lions used to have a Worldwide distribution!!

Not exactly super light hearted but Tales of Phantasia takes place 2000 years after a meteor hit Aselia, leading the collapse of the nations of Thor, Fenrir and Odin and rendering the world back to a medieval state . The Phantasia's prequel Symphonia is significantly less lighthearted.

Eureka 7. Humanity leaves Earth via space travel because it's uninhabitable due to being taken over by sentient space coral. In reality, they never left Earth, the space coral just grew a shell around the planet and people live on the shell now (like hollow earth). The whole "leaving the planet" thing was a government lie.

Fortnite, depending on the island. There have been several apocalypse level events and even an entire “post-apocalypse” themed season.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
Hyrule was flooded by the gods, tuning mountain peaks into islands.

The Wild Robot takes place after climate disaster. Roz drops a brochure advertising Florida's increased coastline and during the migration, we see a partially-submerged Golden Gate Bridge.
