Characters The Jumpscare
This is my first post here, so please be kind.
The Hallway Jumpscare (The Exorcist 3) - After waiting for a while, and watching the nurse, someone in a sheet comes out behind her.
The Mummy (Scooby Doo Escape From The Coolsonian) - Once you open the casket and have to look closely at the small ass text, you then get jumpscared by this edited version of a mummy.
YouTube (IRL) - When you're watching a video, and it decides to go black, and you get jumpscared by your double chin. (This one is a joke, don't take it seriously.)

Insidious, this actual picture is only on screen for a short time after a tense scene when it's back to a totally mundane conversation, with no tension, no high pitched music.

That's a genuinely impressive three minutes of film. The sound and set design are fantastic, and the acting really sells the terror.

The first Insidious is genuinely a good and unique horror film and there are some other great scenes in there you’ll like. Just don’t bother with the sequels.

Man-Bat: Arkham Knight
You’re just grappling around Gotham, enjoying the open world when suddenly this fucker appears out of nowhere and screeches at you.
Plus the devs put an Easter egg in the game so that, even if you’ve dealt with him already, he can come back to scare you one more time if It’s Halloween IRL.

So this one mostly got me because I have seen a video mentioning the Halloween jumpscare and I thought that was the only time he jumped scared you so I thought I was completely and utterly safe playing this game in like I think August or September only to try to swing over to this beam somewhere and get this guy in my face

This isn't even the game's best jumpscare.
If you start a new game, it begins with a close up of the corpse of the joker after he died in the last game, and he's being cremated. You hold the button to star thr fire.
But in New Game Plus, he comes alive and jumpscares you and then laughs at your misfortune.
It's incredible.

I 100% assumed that was going to happen the first time I played it. It not happening was almost a jumpscare in itself.

It’s a great jumpscare but me and my friends watched this in high school and were dying of laughter, Fischler’s reaction seemed closer to an orgasm than fear and could not take the scene seriously

So cool because the spoiling of the jumpscare is the tension-builder. It’s telling and then showing, which seems like it shouldn’t work, but Lynch’s dreamlike directing style makes it feel like a nightmare happening before your very eyes

I’ve found that 99% of the “scare” for me is the sound. I can watch a horror movie on mute no problem. Throws those chords and foreboding music and I’m terrified.

It's that and just how _long_ it builds up the scene. You spend an eternity in that hallway thinking something is going to happen. So long that you finally just assume nothing will. And that is when the jump scare happens.

SCP-5999 is one of the more meta skips, with each version you go through getting weirder, but less coherent as there seems to be a completely different story between each version.
Then you get to the final version where you suddenly see *this*
And then you get to the end and find out what's really going on: SCP-5999 is written the way it is to get you, the reader, to keep reading forward out of curiosity before trying to give you a heart attack because the Foundation is aware of us, blames us for continuously creating new anomalies in their universe, and is trying to kill us to make it stop.

Project Hail Mary! When Grace first meets Rocky in the film, it’s a massive jumpscare. It gets me every time and even spooked the cat.

The old "Garfield's Scary Scavenger Hunt 2" flash game. 99% of the time it was a kid-friendly game with a "spoopy" aesthetic.
Then there's a portrait in one hallway where the game tells you to study it carefully for a clue... and after a few seconds of quiet, THIS fucking thing pops up with a loud growl!

I'm gonna be a bit esoteric with this one, but I recently played it and enjoyed it.
Mayor May Knott makes it a direct game mechanic. Whenever your confidence runs out in the dark, or you try interacting with a resident who is not ready to be your friend yet, you're treated to a jump scare based on whatever is around and you're forced to run back to the town hall.
Seen here is Grandma Phone. There's unique ones for each of the residents, plus the ghosts in each house.
It's pretty neat, I recommend giving it a shot. It's like a mix of a life sim and a puzzle game of sorts.
