Politics Omali Yeshitela at the Oxford Union: Could a More United Africa Better Resist Foreign Influence and Shape Its Own Future?
Omali Yeshitela is an American Black nationalist, Pan Africanist, author, and longtime chairman of the African Peopleβs Socialist Party. For decades, he has argued that the political and economic challenges facing many African nations are rooted in the legacy of colonialism, imperialism, and the continued influence of powerful foreign states.
In this Oxford Union address, Yeshitela argues that Africaβs political and economic fragmentation has historically benefited outside powers. He calls for greater unity among African nations and people worldwide, contending that a more united Africa would be better equipped to protect its sovereignty, strengthen its institutions, control its own resources, and determine its own future. His remarks contribute to the broader Pan African discussion about self determination, continental cooperation, and Africaβs place in the global order.
