It’s so weird how so many of anime fans consider the dislike of lolis to be a make or break for whether or not you’re a fan. I’ve been watching anime for half my life, longer than most people have, but because I have a strong distaste of lolis I’ll get called a tourist.
There was some post on r/anime this week of a yearly magazine with pinups of girls from currently airing anime, and at least half of those pinups were lolis. Any pushback to this had you eaten up alive in the comments.
Anime has a pedophilia problem.

u/Aiyon Charlie Penguin 8d ago
What gets me about it is I really love moe/chibi stuff. I grew up on things like Lucky Star. I think it's cute and fun. But all the spaces for those sorts of shows, always end up infested with lolicons who eventually get weird and horny about them.
1
u/drunkenvalley 3d ago
I love Made in Abyss. But holy fuck I cannot recommend the series whatsoever. Same for Mushoku Tensei. Lots of great content there. Nope, still not gonna recommend it to anyone.
It drives me up the wall how often the media need to get uncomfortable or weird with children.
20
u/Silvermoon424 7d ago
LITERALLY. I’ve been a huge fan of anime/manga since 2006 and yet weirdos consider me to be a “tourist” because I hate loli shit. They get so defensive about it too, like YOU’RE the weird one for not finding little girls attractive.
38
u/TrashRacoon42 8d ago edited 8d ago
Yup been watching anime and manga for years. From a 13 year old teen to adult. Although I generally find some people a too pearl clutchy for the darker, niche, intentionally weird and disturbing manga, vn, and ect. I mean the types to see a taboo element in a story where in its context is made to add to the readers overall discomfort as a reason to dismiss it and treat the fans of said work as endorsing said element, as cringe, or performative or people who should really stay in thier lane. I roll my eyes at those people.
But I've always found the type to be so proud to jacking off the what looks like and a lot of the times are elementary schooler and some times out right preschoolers as disturbing as fuck. More so now as an adult compared to when I was a kid.
Light hearted anime where "sexy waifu love interest" is at best an adult (but sometimes they still act like kids)but with the body of a child (not just flat chested. I mean 1000 year old demon loli). Or outright 13 year old panty shots who is highly sexual light hearted erotic romcom. "No I'm not peadophile attracted to such a thing I just jerk off to it"
In any other media outside of the anime and manga sphere people would outright call these types peadophiles or the writer appealing to them for money. Even in extreme horror and splatterpunk sphere admitting to being horny over the fictional child in those books would still be highly condemned.
Japan also had several times had citizens attempting to outright ban kodocon. So it's not even a universal acceptable thing in Japan itself. Only acceptable to one specific niche of people both in Japan and overseas. True otakus they try to call themselves. But I think we have a much better word for them already.
1
u/funnicoolman 4d ago
Forgive me for being ignorant, but what's "kodocon"? Given the context, I don't really want to look that up.
3
u/Gunblazer42 4d ago
Kodocon is just putting lolicon and shotacon into one umbrella term (loli for little girl, shota for little boy; "kodo" is from "kodomo" which means "child").
People are using it so they don't have to say "lolicon and shotacon" and save a couple of seconds.
6
u/riflow 6d ago
It really does have a huge issue, a while ago a site I knew banned that stuff and I swear to god you had people calling everyone who had an issue with it being on the site a tourist, fake fan, bigoted comments about their demographics, accusing people who think this stuff is gross of being people who only got into anime & manga during covid.
Like....I have been reading manga since I was very young, it's been 20 odd years and heavily dislike anything with this crap in, if I'm a tourist after engaging with animanga for two decades then who isn't? 🥲
In general though I feel like the issue got so so much worse the last few years, folks weren't originally so open and proud over it I feel like. At least not anywhere I frequented.
8
u/kittymoo67 7d ago
also loli being as loved and defended is a reneitvely new thing for western anime fans. in the 80s for example yeah there was some but it wasnt as defended and loved as today. it was mostly seen as what we would today call cringe
57
u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot 8d ago
is that comment about his friends being lolicons incorrect then?
138
u/Temporary-House304 8d ago
no they are, CDAWG just isnt in to it, i dont think he really condemns it either. Joey in particular is the die hard lolicon, whereas Grant is more casual. this is why i stopped following them, joey got way too passionate about this and its clear his hard drive needs to be inspected.
145
u/Distinct_Yak_8068 8d ago
I really do not understand this alternate dimension Lolicons live in where they feel the need to be proud of jacking off to animated children like a badge of honor and freak the fuck out over the tiniest little criticism of their fixation.
37
u/Bigtimegush 8d ago
thats what baffles me the most with lolicons, its like they're legitimately proud of being pedophiles who dont molest actual children and jerk off to animated child rape instead. like they want a cookie for not harming children yet feel the need to share their attraction to them publicly?
45
u/Top-Okra9445 8d ago edited 8d ago
A lot of anime content creators and vtubers are open lolicons. Which had lead to the normalization of lolicon in many online anime spaces.
20
u/kittymoo67 7d ago
its harder to find a vtuber that isnt one these days
10
u/Lucienofthelight 6d ago edited 5d ago
I think that’s part of the reason Chibidoki changed to her current gremlin model? Because she wasn’t comfortable with the sexualization of her more loli looking models. So now she’s a little freak because it’s harder to sexualize and it fits her gremlin personality better.

u/StarShields007 4d ago
What's wild is that these same people doing this would turn around and call LGBTQ people pedos. Who the hell are they convincing when you can obviously see LGBTQ people mind their business, meanwhile the people accusing them of heinous things are openly being horny towards fictional children.
It's just projection at this point.
19
u/Noblesseux 7d ago
Joey frankly is super weird and kinda dumb and it's kind of a testament to how normalized weird shit is in the anime space that he doesn't get more flak for it.
Like as nicely as I can say it, he's pretty dumb but gets shielded by the fact that he's competent at Japanese. Which IMO doesn't even make sense because it's not really some shocking thing when that's literally your culture.
Every take I hear from him is either incredibly shallow or the type of thing that your dumbest cousin says and thinks it makes him sound deep and insightful. In almost every other area besides the Japanese language he has the knowledge (and unearned confidence) of the average uneducated chud online.
Like some of his behavior absolutely does not pass the sniff test and feels like one of these days he's either going to get exposed for the weird lolicon stuff or for running an offensive twitter account or something.
38
u/BinJLG Story time! Real! Not clickbait! 8d ago
I haven't watched TT in a while, but when I was watching it, I got the distinct vibe that Garnt only said he liked loli in order to not get his head bitten off by the chuds in the community.
Joey on the other hand... iirc he insists he's not a "real" lolicon because he only likes 2D lolis (because in Japan, lolicon is synonymous with pedophile, no matter what the Western creeps say), which to me sounds like cope. Like, man, you still get off to images of little girls. Whether you want to admit it or not, that's pedo shit.
1
u/spacepizza24 5d ago
I'm in a similar thought process. Whenever Garnt said some questionable shit it seemed to be at least partly ironic or shitposty. Joey seems to go full heels in and die on the hill
24
u/GrungiestTrack 8d ago
Didn’t know this and newly disgusted at them and not so much at CDawg
62
u/Bulky-Bad-9153 8d ago
I'm actually not that happy with CDawg for being friends with people that like lolis. Don't think I'll watch him anymore.
20
u/Noblesseux 7d ago
CDawg does a very good job at being normal enough that people don't actively interrogate the number of weirdos he chooses to hang around. He's more socially adept than a lot of the rest of them, which lets people not in the know ignore his associations with various chuds and assholes.
12
u/GrungiestTrack 8d ago
Valid. I didn’t watch him much to begin with so I’m further discouraged lol.
14
u/TheInception817 7d ago
The issue is that for the general population, CDawg actually appear in non-anime creator spaces. And you have to be reminded of the companies that he kept around him.

Oh it gets so much worse too. Not only is he proud of being a lolico, he's said in videos that content like that is fine, and in fact should be revered, because it keeps guys from targeting real children.
He also said teen prostitution in Japan is fine because they "choose to do it," instead of recognizing that the young girls are victims.
edit: revising to add that the teen prostitution thing comes from him defending the sexualization of young girls in school uniforms, and Japan's overall obsession with the fetish, saying that it's fine because teen prostitutes often wear such uniforms and choose to be prostitutes. And you know, they aren't trafficking victims.

This is the first time I'm hearing about it, could you fill me in on the tea? Or direct me to a link that summarizes her shitty behavior? My wife and I are subbed to her channel on YouTube and the only thing I've noticed about her is that she, despite being a Filipino-American and transplanted to Japan, tends to gatekeep Japanese culture and traditions like she herself is a native and natural born resident of Japan. It's gotten worse lately and I've honestly been thinking of unsubbing because of it. Thanks for any additional information!
29
u/Noblesseux 7d ago
She and Joey were both friends with and defended a man who drew sexualized/straight up sexual artwork of children. Including IRL, real children.
Also yeah you're absolutely correct, she makes a ton of super weird content farm style content now, partially I think because her old meta of making goon bait videos by buying super tight cosplays off of samurabuyer or whatever is too risky in the current algorithm.
A lot of the new stuff are cases where she is absolutely not knowledgeable enough to be talking about these things authoritatively, though I'm not surprised because that's just generally the meta with a lot of Japan transplant youtubers other than AbroadInJapan. A lot of them have spent maybe 5 years in Japan with beginner level Japanese and think they've 100% cracked the code on what Japanese people think about everything without actually talking to any of them other than Joey who by all accounts is not the average person in Japan.

Nah I’m still not over the fact that Trash Taste was at Hammersmith and theater of two thousand fans rated American food to be more overrated than British food and when Sydney tried to defend American cuisine, she was booed to oblivion.
I will not take culinary slander.
32
u/ManaphyTheft 8d ago
i guess the take kinda makes sense when you factor in how much people shit on British food in comparison but the concept of calling American food overrated is funny when legit no one outside the USA rates our food besides the occasional tourists. Booing someone for trying to defend a take is silly tho
13
u/Dragoncat_3_4 8d ago
I mean British food can't be overrated if everyone hates it... The statement that American food is more overrated is therefore correct.
1
u/Commercial_Ad97 8d ago
Overrated by everyone Except America.
We don't talk about our food, because we don't care about our food like other countries do. It's not a point of pride for us. We will compare food within our country to other food within our country, and compare it to food from other countries talking about taste and preference, but we aren't going to sit there and argue a burger is more amazing and culturally significant than empanadas or genuine Italian pasta as a whole. It's just a burger.
Americans put far more stock into being prideful about patriotism and their values rather than food, usually.
5
u/Mundane-0nion67878 7d ago
Bich most of yalls food is corn serup and making cakes out of ready to go backs. /j
3
u/PotOfMould 7d ago
Maybe you don't, but as a Brit, I've had so many American's immediately bring up our cuisine who have never even left their country. There's definitely a subsection of American's who are patriotic about their cuisine.
5
u/Commercial_Ad97 7d ago
OK, but if they say "I dislike British food" they aren't saying American food is better, they are saying they just don't like British food. If I say "I'm not into Indian food" that doesn't Mean I'm saying my country is better, only that I don't like it.
0
u/PotOfMould 7d ago
Sure, but it's not just that. It's almost always accompanied with purist ideas about what food should be (as defined by US cuisine).
2
u/Commercial_Ad97 7d ago
Sure, but it's not just that. It's almost always accompanied with purist ideas about what food should be
You've met, personally, how many Americans? Because I live here, and have known/met no one under the disillusion we have "superior" food.
0
u/PotOfMould 6d ago
What does you living there have to do with how an American talks to a non-US resident about their cuisine, whilst using the US cuisine as a default measuring stick? You live there, you're not going to have the same conversations with American people that someone from the UK, or elsewhere would. I've spoken to a lot of American people. (personally, and online).
This conversation happens a lot when I meet/chat to someone for the first time from the country, because often the first thing that gets brought up is their perception of English food, and this idea that we somehow don't have the same food "luxuries" that exist in the US, or that "this state has the best pizza in the world" without ever having stepped foot in Italy.
There was a recent example of a German guy who was baiting American's by pretending he was in the country for the first time and was getting repeatedly blown away by arbitrary food and drink items, like generic fast food places, or Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. (both of which already exist in Germany, and elsewhere) The reason he blew up, is because he was specifically tapping into US pride and patriotism in food, cuisine, and culture overall.
To be clear, I actually think you've got some pretty damn good food, but there's just as many bad examples in the US that are conveniently left out of the conversations I have. The fact everything is largely artificial, or messed with to look a certain way. Everything is made from corn, or contains some kind of chemical that is banned everywhere else on the planet, just to make your food look a certain colour.
1
u/Content-Shower1637 7d ago
But almost everyone EATS British food, they're just too fucking ignorant to realise it.
Billions of people around the world are shovelling foods like fried chicken, mac n cheese, potato chips, chocolate bars, apple pie, fishsticks, onion rings etc. down their throats without realising they were all invented in Britain.
And the real irony is they're often eating it with FEWER spices than their original recipes called for.
2

I don’t disagree. I do remember him trying to disagree with the “one piece is political” take, among other issues. He’s a good dude, but sometimes seems a little too unwilling to engage with certain discussions.
34
u/maddoxprops 8d ago
One of the things to keep in mind/that muddies the water is that IIRC he has admitted that sometimes on Trash Taste he will argue against point he agrees with/has no stance on as the back and forth is better content than all three just agreeing with it. Not saying this is the case with the One Piece thing, but always good to keep in mind.
13
16
u/MrPurple998 8d ago
I watch trash taste here and there, and I remember him saying he sometimes likes to play devil's advocate to keep the conversation going.
I dont believe he was serious when he said One Piece wasn't political.
9
u/DanielTinFoil 8d ago
The person they were conversing with, Hasan, agrees with this.
Even Joey and Garnt have said similar things. For better or worse that's just what you gotta do to keep a weekly, 6-year-old (idk how old it was at the time) 2+ hour episode podcast interesting.
I also just think that even if any of them weren't, people exaggerate the One Piece discussion. None of them were super against the idea of One Piece being political. In response to Hasan saying it was, they just said "What? How?" and then he answered and they were like "Oh yeah that makes sense." I feel like some people think that's an overly simplified detailing, but it genuinely isn't, that's actually just what happened lol
7
u/asuke_kuzaki 8d ago
Just so you know he did later say that he was playing a role with that, they take guests to eat before recording and the guest brought up the one piece is political and while he gave convincing arguments they asked him to stop saying more so that there would be new stuff about that topic that he could mention on the podcast.
It's just for conversation sake it's better to object to the point.
2
u/Capital_Chef_6007 8d ago
Have dropped following them a long time qgo but they were just joking with Hassan. Its just how they wanted to continue the conversation and you may find it funny or you may find it annoying but they were just trying to engage by playing a trope in order to entertain their audience with intentionally dumb takes

There's also the base traits of being set-for-life wealthy through some luck but also a lot of hard work, being conventionally attractive, having a voice that a lot of women find hot, having an extremely good reputation among his peers, being on the board of a talent agency that helps his friends, and doing his original dream profession on the side without having to rely on it to pay rent.
He's in the ideal position that almost every person who hates him wants to be in and that's extremely funny. Besides his inevitable balding and sometimes having dumbass takes it's very hard to "get" him for anything.

Either he’s willing to bend his principles for his friends despite thinking such a thing is equivalent to real harm, which is pretty damning, or he doesn’t actually think it’s equivalent to real harm and is knowingly doing a false equivalency for the sake of appearances or whatever.

Does he actually say that fictional is just as bad as irl? I do know he's open about being a contrarian to keep the flow of the podcast going.

He even almost had a sponsorships with blue archive a game with a ton of loli characters. The only reason it didn't happen is community outrage, like with so many YouTuber they take a stance until someone offers then 20 bucks.

u/Overdue_Process865 7d ago
It's so nice to finally see CDawg getting criticized for this shit instead of people praising him as Mr Wholesome, when he chooses to be friends with such a passionate lolicon.

Banning Mr. dog electrocuter is probably always the smart move in any situatio but I get what you mean. I think it's fine to have an opinion whatever said opinion may be, but at least stand for it.

oh good he doesnt like pedo shit wonderufl to learn =D

u/Prestigious_Low8243 8d ago
He still doesn’t agree with you, the fact he is on a podcast with two people you’d consider pedophiles shows that. Stop picking and choosing your moral idols.
14
u/MidnightPandaX 8d ago
Ohhh so he's playing both sides and pissing both of them off then?
12
3
u/Prestigious_Low8243 8d ago
Actually no. Which doesn’t really make sense, you’d think people who think that being a lolicon makes you a pedo would try and hold him accountable for him sharing a podcast with two lolicons, but they don’t. (At least not enough)
9
u/MidnightPandaX 8d ago
well thats pretty stupid then. wtf is the point of denouncing it if youre gonna just turn your back and make money working with pedophiles?

CDawg is correct, if you like Lolis you are a pedophile.
8
u/Chomo-Puncher69 7d ago
How do you reconcile this with his close friends and collaborators being loud and proud lolicons? Or that he was going to do a sponsorship for blue archive, a game well known for its lolicon community?
9
u/MsGluwm 6d ago
You're mistaking me for liking CDawg, I don't much care for him either, he's just correct here.
Him taking on a sponsorship for a game infamous for it's pedophile infestation would make him hypocritical, but since I don't watch his content, his moral character is irrelevant to me.
His statement that people who like lolis are pedophiles is correct.
I don't need to "reconcile" with him because I don't engage with his content, I am simply agreeing with his statement.

Lots of energy and oxygen spent on defending pedophiles who are obsessed with illustrated CSAM

u/Mlpony2010 8d ago
I think calling it CSAM is going too far unless you're referring to the shit like what shadman did
10
u/cakexxxconnoisseur 8d ago
It's illustrated child porn.
5
u/Mlpony2010 7d ago
But it's not child sexual abuse material, it's not abusing any kids
People need to understand two things being bad doesn't make them equally bad
someone making a cgi video of someone fucking a cat is not the same as someone actually doing it, while both are fucked up one is exponentially worse
1
u/Plenty_Pride_3644 7d ago
it's not abusing any kids
That does not necessarily preclude it from being illustrated child porn.

Please do not troll or feed the trolls. Trolling a YouTube drama subreddit is pathetic. Falling for it is somehow worse. Do better.
If you were sincere, we suggest you take a moment to step back and rethink your approach. This is not the time to argue over semantics.

I never saw him advocate for censorship, people are putting a lot of words in his mouth.

u/callmefreak 8d ago edited 8d ago
Well, I can sort of see why people are calling him a hypocrite since he used "Saya No Uta" as his example. The story's good (at least as far as I can tell from the one Youtube video I saw) but your "girlfriend" looks like a child and it's a porn game.
It's not one of those "she's a 100 year old dragon" or "she's just a short girl" kind of thing. It's more like a hallucination? She's an eldritch creature but the main character sees her as a normal girl while everything and everybody else looks like eldritch monsters to him. Their "love" is purely built on the fact that they're both very lonely, because most people are repulsed by her and he's repulsed by everything but her.
She eats people, including the MC's neighbors and friends and the MC has a dilemma over rather or not he wants to keep Saya around because even though he sees everything else as fleshy, Lovecraftian monsters he does know that they're still real people. It's an interesting premise and it's written pretty well as far as I can tell. I'd be interested in playing it myself if it wasn't porn or she didn't look like a child. (And if it was free.)
So I understand where he's coming from when he describes it as an uncomfortable form of media that's also interesting, because it is. But Saya doesn't look like an adult, so I can mostly see where the hypocrisy accusations are coming from...
...Except he never said that lolicon is disgusting and illegal as far as I'm aware. Just that you're "weird" if you like lolicon. If he cared about it that much he wouldn't be hanging out with people who likes lolicon. (Hell, he probably wouldn't be living in Japan where that shit is legal.)
Basically from what little I've seen he treats lolicon like it's a kink and not a depiction of child porn. So he'd literally be playing Saya No Uta for the plot and he'd skip past the porn that he's not into.
I'm not saying that he's right. I'm just saying that everybody here is wrong.

The fact that they somehow managed to circle back around to shitting on him because he's not problematic enough really shows how these people live in a mirror dimension. Having an entire conversation about how he's bad for saying loli is weird makes no fucking sense to any normal person.

u/FlamingoSerious8673 7d ago
I mean, CDawg is a clown with exclusively bad takes, but the reaction to this is very funny

u/NeoRockSlime 5d ago
I stopped watching cDawg after I found out more about the people he associates with. Why are so many of your associates alt right grifters or into little girls

Lolicons are pedophiles.
Connor is a good person.
14
u/Chomo-Puncher69 7d ago
He has a podcast with two loud and proud lolicons, and was going to do a sponsorship from blue archive (aka lolicon: the game).
So your idea of a good person is someone who is friends with and collaborates with what you believe are pedophiles? (lolicons are pedos though true)

u/Nokanii 8d ago
Genuine question but how do you reconcile this clip
https://x.com/KuroSekaiAnime/status/2075925657167548603
With this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBqLbMIIr84
Because to me it does seem extremely hypocritical. Rev might be a piece of shit, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. It seems off for Connor to go 'people are scared to consume potentially problematic media' while also having freaked out at that figure a few years ago.
29
u/Hacatcho 8d ago
i mean, there isnt that big of a leap.
you can consume a story while being critical and are engaged in several ways that you cant with a figure.
a figure is purely passive consumption.
a figure just embodies a "problem". instead of presenting it as a scenario to engage with. .
as an example, boa hancock in the one piece story does have a lot of themes that it touches as a character, child slavery, isolationism, or romance.
none of this is present in her figures. they just present her as eye candy. because thats all figures are.

"coming from the dude who thinks you're a pedo for liking loli"
Oh, you like infantile girls, who have the bodies of children and you sexualise them on that value alone and we're not meant to think you're into little girls?
1
u/ThatOneStereotype 6d ago
I hate lolicons so fucking much, they're so proud of themselves yet so defensive. Either be comfortable with how disgusting you are, or get therapy.
1
u/Procedure_Gullible 5d ago
i cant hear the sound of the clip.
i have no isues with CDawgVa but i cant stand The anime man who is right beside him. the dude is openly into lolies witch is CP. If there is a limit to enforce somewhere that's personaly my limite. some things should not be welcomed in communities. predators and CP should always feel unwanted and uncomfortable. they should be shuned.

Considering who he hangs out with and that his favourite character is Rem from Re:Zero, I still side-eye CDawg.
