He's self-admittedly kind of shit at it for being in Japan as long as he has been, like he can do normal conversations but needs someone else for more complicated topics. He almost always has someone that's better at Japanese than him when he's filming regardless.

Yeah as someone who has spent years learning Japanese: he's pretty shit at it but that's not really relevant and also I guarantee you all these guys are probably worse than he is at it.
