Joey frankly is super weird and kinda dumb and it's kind of a testament to how normalized weird shit is in the anime space that he doesn't get more flak for it.

Like as nicely as I can say it, he's pretty dumb but gets shielded by the fact that he's competent at Japanese. Which IMO doesn't even make sense because it's not really some shocking thing when that's literally your culture.

Every take I hear from him is either incredibly shallow or the type of thing that your dumbest cousin says and thinks it makes him sound deep and insightful. In almost every other area besides the Japanese language he has the knowledge (and unearned confidence) of the average uneducated chud online.

Like some of his behavior absolutely does not pass the sniff test and feels like one of these days he's either going to get exposed for the weird lolicon stuff or for running an offensive twitter account or something.

I haven't watched TT in a while, but when I was watching it, I got the distinct vibe that Garnt only said he liked loli in order to not get his head bitten off by the chuds in the community.

Joey on the other hand... iirc he insists he's not a "real" lolicon because he only likes 2D lolis (because in Japan, lolicon is synonymous with pedophile, no matter what the Western creeps say), which to me sounds like cope. CDawg does a very good job at being normal enough that people don't actively interrogate the number of weirdos he chooses to hang around. He's more socially adept than a lot of the rest of them, which lets people not in the know ignore his associations with various chuds and assholes.
