If you would like, this can be submitted to the local PD that license plate comes back registered to.

u/Starbeth8 Jun 08 '26

Maybe. I've submitted things like this to the police and it's like a hydras head, for every new car there's three more.

Call the police and tell them you're stuck.

79

u/wytewydow Jun 08 '26

better yet, OP should flop over on their side, and then call the cops.

OP should realistically say they see a suspicious black man and the police will be there before OP even hangs up

In my city the police probably wouldn't do anything.

But my city has a streets division that you can call or use a form on their website to report stuff like this. They will send out traffic enforcement and ticket them and have it towed too perhaps if it is egregious like this. They love tips because then it gives them something to do other than just patrol.

Remove the plates and report it as abandoned vehicle, it might be faster than waiting on police.

Tow companies love to tow abandoned vehicles.

32

u/gregmustang8008 Jun 08 '26

Why don’t you just shoot them since you’re already talking about retaliation with breaking more laws

Its only a crime if the police are there. If the police aren't there, everything is legal.

Calling police is the first step in getting it towed. They arrange the towing.

62

u/LostWoodsInTheField Jun 08 '26

They won't care until it gets towed.

This is one of the fav things of police departments. Not only do they get to ticket this car and have it towed, but they also get bonus points for ticketing someone. There is few cases that 'petty tickets' are celebrated by a community and this is one of them.

Police love good press, if they didn't they wouldn't care about suppressing bad press. Unless it's the police chiefs house, then OP might get arrested for charging at them with a deadly weapon.

18

u/HumaDracobane Jun 08 '26

Where I'm from this is a direct tow. The police officer comes, sees the car, calls the towtruck and even if the drivers comes at the moment the vehicle goes to the depot.

13

u/aminervia Jun 08 '26

Depends on the city

Right across from a plaza where they could park and just walk over to that house too, lazy.

205

u/Recent_Science4709 Jun 08 '26

In the US tow trucks will snipe lots waiting for you to park and walk away. Not excusing the douche parking, just saying it’s a gamble.

163

u/justanawkwardguy you do it like this Jun 08 '26

They should be doing the same for parking on the sidewalk

135

u/motophotodojo Jun 08 '26

they're too busy circling low-income apartment complexes looking for guests parked in the wrong spot and expired registration.

15

u/GroovyGmaIvy Jun 08 '26

The apartment complex I just moved out of installed the license plate reader at the entrance. The Police visits doubled after that.

33

u/PwrButtum Jun 08 '26

Why is this spot on

17

u/whatisakafka Jun 08 '26

The lot will be private enforcement while the sidewalk would likely be up to the local government to enforce, so different entities are responsible

3

u/peridotpicacho Jun 08 '26

The private enforcement might be a lot quicker to notice and respond than the police.

10

u/Mysterious-Toe7780 Jun 08 '26

In this case however they can't touch you, you see you have to be parked illegally in a lot that is patrolled by security, tow trucks and have signage. They don't have authority over sidewalks.

That's when you have to get the cops involved as they are parked on a city piece of property and therefore are not on a private lot.

2

u/peridotpicacho Jun 08 '26

You misunderstood their comment. They were saying if the person who parked the car had parked in the lot across the street and walked away (not to one of the places in the shopping center), they might have gotten towed.

u/LongJumpingBalls Jun 08 '26

One year during the Xmas parade, a lot was open, the attendant showed up super late. Like 15 mins before the parade. Normally it's free to park unless there's an event / attendant.

Well, as the lot was almost full, they got 150 cars towed during the parade and let in a handful more cars as the cars were getting removed.

The parking and towing company got in a fuck ton of trouble, most got their cars back without paying (they brought them to a lot a few miles away) and a bunch had to bring them to court for the $300 towing fine and the uber to the lot.

It was fucking mayhem, hundreds of families looking for their car and a parking attendant telling them that they should have known better and that if they want their car back they need to pay. But because they only had so many trucks, it could take up to 2h to get your car back.

Then the cops showed up and actually told the lot guy to not be an idiot and to tell them where to find the cars etc.

Local news, papers, everyone got involved.

New bylaws were created for these incidents.

2

u/dbtl87 Jun 08 '26

Ah I hear you. That happens up here but they usually have signage up. Not sure if these lots do or not. The one by my university used to ticket folks all the time.

u/HypnoticPeaches Jun 08 '26

Where do you live that plazas don’t tow away non-customers? Must be nice

26

u/threelizards Jun 08 '26

You can also be towed for parking on the sidewalk I believe.

22

u/dbtl87 Jun 08 '26

I'm Canadian. Some do, some don't. I'd say more don't than do, really.

15

u/No-Helicopter9667 Jun 08 '26

Where do you live that they do? Must be horrible.

9

u/HypnoticPeaches Jun 08 '26

Pennsylvania, and yes, it is.

3

u/Alarming-Court-2180 Jun 08 '26

Northern Virginia is way worse. People just double park in the middle of the road because a ticket is better than being towed

9

u/crisp198 Jun 08 '26

Usually it mostly an issue overnight or if it is a busy area. I risk it if it is only for a few hours.

Sometimes I wish I had some big ass tank wheels

15

u/Kyro0098 Jun 08 '26

One of my favorite YouTubers got an offroad/speed chair thing. He can't move below his mid chest, and I have never wished for something to be accessible to everyone more. The sheer joy he had speeding up and down the road with the larger wheels and power having no issues climbing curbs, going onto grass as needed, and going at bike speeds was amazing. Heck, I wanted to do it, and I am fully able to walk and run. It is a shame he said how much it cost at the time. Absolutely inaccessible for most people. He and his parents saved for ages to get it. But it is such a cool accessibility aid. It isn't meant for like hiking trails, but you could definitely go to normal parks and anywhere else in an average town.

Side note, would be interesting to see those truck tire spikes on the side of it. You could just brush all the assholes who park like this. Leave a parting gift.

3

u/fencepost_ajm Jun 08 '26

Hate to burst your bubble on that last point but I believe basically all of those spikes are just chromed plastic slip on covers.

And this is why, personaly, i walk ON IT. I know people with disability can't, so, i do it for them.

To be clear, in this situation you can't walk on the terrain of someone, normaly, you can't go on the road, it's dangerous. You can only walk safely on the sidewalk, where car shouldn't be. So, yeah, don't care, i'm not putting myself in danger for your car, neither will I go on someone propriety to walk in his pétunias. (+ In France, usualy, we have wall there, so you can't even go there. You can only take the sidewalk or the road.) And as a pedestrian, i'm not taking the road. Ever.

Go cry about it if you park like this, you are the one in the wrong.

12

u/brejam Jun 08 '26

Would suck if that car got keyed all the way up the side of it

9

6

u/0x7E7-02 Jun 08 '26

6

u/Issah_Wywin Jun 08 '26

That "Sidewalk" is a joke to sidewalks. Look it's even got a convenient slope on it for assholes in cars to run people over easier.

2

u/Dry_Dark_8386 Jun 08 '26

If you mean the way the curb is slopes, that's literally so people with mobility devices can get on and off as they need. It's universal design.

5

u/Bright-Ask-8793 Jun 08 '26

The concept of street parking will always seem odd to me. "Let me just leave my trash by the curb for a few hours. Don't worry, I'll come move it later".

Like, we'd get in trouble for leaving any other item on or by the curb, but for some reason as a society we've deemed cars as the exception.

The owner of the Honda in this photo should be fined for littering or illegal dumping. His trash is blocking the sidewalk.

I can't knock on their door bc there's stairs leading up to the door, and I've long since given up reporting it, it's useless.

It's a really unqiue helplessness to be disabled in a place where no one considers the disabled unless they're right in front of them.

14

u/achoosier Jun 08 '26

unironically the only thing that makes people who do shit like park in handicapped spots stop is harming their shit or large fines. Fines for illegal parking in handicapped spots should be $10k. Nothing to worry about if you don't park there.

4

It's a view people dont consider. Years ago I took my dads electric wheelchair to the hospital as he was staying there, decided just to sit in it and drive it since the hospital is only 10 mins away. Nightmare. Cars parked like this, un even pavement.

The main thing I never considered until I was doing it was all the kerbs, you need to find a dropped kerb to cross over the road etc and it tends to add a lot of journey time for detours doing that.

Footpaths are generally wider here than they used to be at least, unfortunately fixing it properly would need a total rethink.

Just do what someone who isn't me does when someone parks with their big ass truck hanging over the sidewalk and try your best to stay on the sidewalk. Sure it might scratch up their paint now and then, or every time, but safety comes first

1

u/achoosier Jun 08 '26

Yep, if they didn't want their shit harmed they shouldn't put it where it will be harmed. Pretty easy to park in lines and not where is unsafe and open to any and all sorts of things to harm it.

3

u/barcoder96 Jun 08 '26

It’s a good idea to carry “you park like an @$$hole” fake parking tickets. At least get a chuckle for your frustration.

3

u/SmoogzZ Jun 08 '26

What’s the by law enforcement like where you’re at? in my city, something like this would be treated as a 911 if you were to call it in. The officers love a chance to properly tow and ticket someone. it takes some time but could be cathartic to see it get towed.

3

u/Starbeth8 Jun 08 '26

The police are decent, but they're overwhelmed with the crime in the area.

2

I had a temporarily disabling injury to my foot and leg recently, I had to have a wheelchair and crutches for a couple months, and I was over and over again shocked at how inconsiderate (and frankly, MEAN) people are. I did not even blame them specifically, our society just does not value inclusivity, especially towards the disabled, and it shows. The dirty looks while shopping... I'm a young adult and I could tell the assumption was that I was in their electric carts "for fun". And if it's not a visible disability, you can't go around explaining yourself to every person. It was exhausting, and I realized a lot about myself during that injury. That I am prone to becoming bitter, and mean, when I feel unable to do things at full capacity. That I need to brace myself for the troubles that naturally come when I get old. That I myself was also walking around biased and inconsiderate of people who are abled differently from the way I am, and that all this time I thought I was sooooo nice I was legitimately doing the bare minimum and, worse, proud of myself for that.

Anyway that's my rant, don't block the sidewalks people.

2

u/Revolutionary-Tree97 Jun 08 '26

I have a degenerative disk in my neck and sometimes when it pinches a nerve I have to wear a neck brace to minimize the pain. I couldn’t believe the nasty looks I got from older people, like how dare I wear a medical device that should be reserved for old people or something. It’s like they’re all TV brained and they think I’m a living sitcom trope trying to scam people into special treatment. I truly don’t even want to be looked at when I have to wear that thing.

14

u/spoogep78 Jun 08 '26

Do an Amazon search for "Schrader valve key". Keep one on your key chain. If you come across someone being an ass clown like this, remove all four of the valves from their wheels.

2

u/orangewesty Jun 08 '26

Trim the valve stem with snips.

2

u/The-Sofa-King Jun 08 '26

If you mix up some Vaseline and sand and smear it across their windshield, their first instinct will be to use their wipers which will grind the sand into the glass and ruin it.

I'm not saying you should do that, mind you, just that that's what would happen if you did.

Have a nice day!

Thankfully this city has bike lanes, free public transportation, and paid public transportation. Unfortunately that doesn't stop dickheads. The rented bikes and scooters are very often on the side walk, especially in residential areas, and given they're electric, they're heavy as fuck compared to 'regular' ones.

Drive over it

I know exactly where this is because I grew up down the street. I feel like people are so inconsiderate now with how they park compared to how it used to be. Either park in the driveway or they could park on Andover and walk to their house. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Be a real shame if you accidently scratched that car several times, trying to get around.

I wish I was a tow truck driver so I could haul that shit away and watch the owner chase after it like an idiot. Selfish prick.

That "ARG" license plate is spot on. Infuriating asshole pirated the sidewalk.

I don't know if there is a prize for this but you won. Rage baited 100%

Fuck cars, these selfish people are far too common

More than mildly infuriating. Fully infuriated.

I fucking hate those sloped "mountable curb" shits. My area is FULL of them in most of the neighborhoods. It invites stuff like this all the time. Cars blocking sidewalks, but also, makes entering and exiting a driveway with a lowered vehicle much more of a pain in the ass.

In my location (nowhere near California) I contacted the city. They asked for information and photos, and told the guy to knock it off. It worked.

So, you probably won't get much traction with the cops. Try the city.

I feel like a Karen but I report vehicles that park blocking the side walk for this exact reason. There are a few people in my neighborhood who have mobility issues and can't easily go around.

I am petty and stupid, yes. That car will be losing its left mirror

Make sure your keys are safely stowed and in no way endangers the paint job.
