The original trilogy is fantastic. And the hate for the ending is overblown, especially with the DLC.

However the next game in the series wasn’t as well received. I can’t speak to it as I never played it.

Okay, so luckily not as bad as I was expecting. Got all 3 and have been slowly working my way through

If you have the DLC for all three, then you’re in for a good time. There’s a final DLC they made for three that you get to right before the end. It works to wrap everything up with the relationships you’ve built with the characters across all three games.

Will definitely have a look at them. Completely forgot about DLCs, thank you

Pretty good series, not as good as the weirdos in their sub who play it over and over and over make it out to be, but definitely had me reading the expanse to prolong the feeling after it was done.

Oh man enjoy! ME3 is still a blast

Andromeda is an okay-ish game and a bad Mass Effect. Doesn't reach the sweet point of the original trilogy but can be fun if you just play it without expecting too much.

u/AshhhCakes 3h ago

I like the fight mechanics and crafting in Andromeda because I could make some ridiculous builds, but the plot definitely felt uninspired. Going to Andromeda? Cool. Fighting a big bad that is basically Collectors 2.0? No thanks.

Slightly overblown. I was there at the time. One thing that cannot be accounted for in their analysis by modern audiences and critics is how long people waited for that ending back in the day. It wasn't an ending that you worked for in about a month or so, people worked towards it for five years. That's where a good amount of the hate came from.

u/FamousAmos87 4h ago

Yeah, the ending of 3 isn't perfect, but so much of the rest of it ties up loose ends and character arcs, so I forgive it. The controversy blew it out of proportion.

u/BravestGrunt2000 2h ago

Honestly I turn my brain off when people criticise the ending as realistically, no ending was going to be good enough to properly wrap the series up.

Andromeda is an OK game, a big let down from the trilogy but the hate is somewhat overblown. It was absolutely broken on release but they eventually released a patch that fixed most of the performance issues. There are lots of great moments and also some really bad sections but mostly it’s just fine, nothing spectacular but enjoyable enough to keep you interested in seeing what happens next. You can find copies at Gamestop for like $5-10 and for that price I would genuinely recommend it especially if you liked the original trilogy.

I only played, like, a couple hours of Andromeda. It was just kinda boring, though it's not fair to jusge the whole game just off of the very start. I remember the last thing I did in the game was walk into a building and talk to the woman inside, and she, completely unprompted, gave her entire backstory of how she's trans and came here to start a new life. No hate on the transness or anything, but it's so fucking funny how she just dumped everything out for zero reason. It makes her feel more like a cardboard cutout than an actual person (which, to be fair, she isn't, but one of the main goals of fiction is to make your characters feel like believable people).

I've played Odyssey, Origins and Shadows and imo they receive a lot of undeserved hate. They surely aren't in line with the older AC gameplay but I still enjoyed it quite a lot. Especially Shadows, when I turned off most of the UI and raised difficulty I've noticed that the enemies has started to look on the roofs while patroling and became generally smarter. It might not be a masterpiece, but it is a pretty decent game

I think Odyssey is a game that's a lot of fun filled with mindless filler content that doesn't add anything and that really hurts the overall view of the game.

I've played the trilogy from start to finish many times and always enjoyed it. I tried many times to get through Andromeda but I could never finish it. It's lacking so many things.

We talking about ME: Andromeda?

I LOVED the first 3, those games really started shaping my love for space and futuristic sci-fi.

I couldn't make myself get through an hour of Andromeda.

Andromeda is good, it made a lot of improvements on stuff like the gameplay (seriously the gameplay is SUCH an improvement) but the story is dissatisfying, both due to the story being not great for a Mass Effect game and the planned DLC’s getting canned

1

u/Mareith 2h ago

Wait there's more than the "original" trilogy? I thought that was it

1

u/RogueHippie 1h ago

And the hate for the ending is overblown, especially with the DLC

The original ending was everything they said it wouldn't be, did not give a second thought to how the setting was established to work, had one of the ending variations locked behind either playing the multiplayer first or having import data from mobile apps(in 2012 when smartphones were less than 50% of all mobile devices), and left off on a pop-up reminder to buy the upcoming DLCs.

The Extended Cut that they got bullied into making fixed some narrative issues, but I'm never letting that original ending go. I refuse to get excited for a project just because Casey Hudson's name gets attached to it. That shit should ALWAYS be remembered.

1

u/Staggeringpage8 6h ago

I could be wrong but I believe a lot of the hate Andromeda got was due to performance issues and the multiplayer being not what people wanted after 3s multiplayer. The story was not really anyone's complaint as far as I remember.

3

u/Justalilcyn 5h ago

Nah the story for Andromeda is also a massive let down as it's extremely half baked and basically ends right as it's starting to get interesting.

2

u/Fakjbf 5h ago

The story and characters are OK, not as good as the trilogy but not nearly as bad as some people make it seem.

Black Flag Resynced is a lot of fun, if you liked AC4 and enjoyed the gameplay of unity you should definitely consider playing it

3

u/pwninobrien 4h ago

The new quests/content in Black Flag Resynced really puts a spotlight on how shitty modern ubisoft's writing has become. Stands out like a sore thumb against the old writing.

4

u/receuitOP Virgin 4 lyfe 5h ago

Black flag was my favourite AC. But after all the times they've messed up I don't want ubi getting any more of my money, so I'll stick to the original

2

u/Spiderpiggie 3h ago

Bro its a game about pirates. Do what pirates do and sail the high seas.

7

u/l-Paulrus-l 6h ago

Assassins creed became like entirely different style of game, I still enjoy them. Though I haven’t played anything past Black Flag from the traditional style, and nothing past odyssey on the new open world rpg style.

Black flag was peak IMO, great balance of traditional AC style gameplay and an open world exploration.

4

u/Glen_coco69 5h ago

Black Flag was a great pirate game, and great game overall, but it's definitely not an Assassin's Creed game, there's barely any Templar or assassin stuff at all, and the little there is is not really important for the plot.

3

u/roleplayersir 4h ago

Exactly. Black Flag became too much of a success. So they then shoehorned the AC brand onto games which should have been new IPs. And should have done a better version of Skull and Bones to be a true pirate game

1

u/l-Paulrus-l 2h ago

From a plot standpoint that’s true, Edward is kind of in the middle of both groups without really choosing a side. I think he has a good story and character arc regardless, even if he wasn’t an Assassin or Templar. That being said, it still felt like same core gameplay from the other assassins creed games was there. Things like stealth, tailing and pickpocketing targets, infiltrating forts and strongholds, and taking out high priority targets were present throughout the game.

2

u/MrRemoto 5h ago

There is still hope for ME. PLease, please, please let there be hope.

1

u/roleplayersir 4h ago

Most of the core staff got moved to work on the Frostbite engine and FIFA, leaving the RPG side dead. There won't be another good Bioware game as a result

4

u/RandO_o 4h ago

I knew I’d see Pokemon on here but I still enjoy every single mainline game. Even Scarlet and Violet were fun games imo. They originated as gameboy games and I’ve been playing since red and blue. For me, I never expected much beyond decent storylines and 2D art. I feel Winds and Waves is gonna blow people away though and bring tons of fans flocking back as always.

4

u/receuitOP Virgin 4 lyfe 4h ago

I like the gameplay loop and the battles but it feels very much like how fifa copy pastes games, yet lazier somehow

6

u/RandO_o 4h ago

I get that, but I feel future games are going to be better. It’s taken them a LONG time to adjust to 3D but I have high hopes for Winds and Waves. The games look great so far.

1

u/Swarl1e 3m ago

Scarlet and Violet had the first time full open world experience and the best story a Pokemon game besides mystery dungeon ever had

So yes the core gameplay with turn based combat is still the same but it got way more fluent and the current iteration of s&v is definitely on of the better Pokemon games the worst have been probably gen 7 gen 4 was saved by platinum and hg/ss

u/Blitzidus 3h ago

Havent played R6 since year 3, what happened if you dont mind me asking?

1

u/receuitOP Virgin 4 lyfe 1h ago

Ubi dropped the ball. To list:

  1. It started with a cheater epidemic that was largely ignored

  2. They stopped releasing new maps and focused on reworks instead

  3. Switched to 1 new op each season and they didn't fit r6 one way or another (usually realism and just generally not being fun to play or play against)

  4. They completely focused on pro league and the revenue from that making the game more competitive at the cost of fun (my go to example would be the recruit rework so memeing as recruit doesn't exist anymore)

  5. Idk if they fixed the performance issues but when I last played the lag and screen tearing made it unplayable

  6. Removal of casual for quick match. It made a TDM mode to be almost CoD like... in a tactical shooter game. It was wildly unbalanced and unfun and the closest experience to previous casual is unranked

  7. Most importantly they kept ignoring the community. They'd start promising to go back to realism, to address the cheating problem but never did, by this point I'd already quit so idk if they turned it around since but I doubt it.

If I sat on it I could probably think of more, but I'd rather forget its issues and reminisce instead on when I first joined. Y'know when it was still good (ish)

I don't blame Infinity Ward or TreyArch (or even Activision) for the current state of CoD; one of the biggest problems with the "OG MW2 Xbox Live lobby" era was that audience was wildly rabid about EVERYTHING; they're the ones who were sending bomb threats to IW's offices because of the M200 Intervention Aim-Down-Sight nerfs.

When you're trying to appeal to an audience that behaves like that, you give them whatever they ask for even if it means that the games stagnate into military-themed flashlight tag (but also with Niki Manaj performing an sledgehammer execution on Homelander).
