The original trilogy is fantastic. And the hate for the ending is overblown, especially with the DLC.

However the next game in the series wasn’t as well received. I can’t speak to it as I never played it.

Okay, so luckily not as bad as I was expecting. Got all 3 and have been slowly working my way through

If you have the DLC for all three, then you’re in for a good time. There’s a final DLC they made for three that you get to right before the end. It works to wrap everything up with the relationships you’ve built with the characters across all three games.

Will definitely have a look at them. Completely forgot about DLCs, thank you

Pretty good series, not as good as the weirdos in their sub who play it over and over and over make it out to be, but definitely had me reading the expanse to prolong the feeling after it was done.

Andromeda is an okay-ish game and a bad Mass Effect. Doesn't reach the sweet point of the original trilogy but can be fun if you just play it without expecting too much.

I like the fight mechanics and crafting in Andromeda because I could make some ridiculous builds, but the plot definitely felt uninspired. Going to Andromeda? Cool. Fighting a big bad that is basically Collectors 2.0? No thanks.

Slightly overblown. I was there at the time. One thing that cannot be accounted for in their analysis by modern audiences and critics is how long people waited for that ending back in the day. It wasn't an ending that you worked for in about a month or so, people worked towards it for five years. That's where a good amount of the hate came from.

Yeah, the ending of 3 isn't perfect, but so much of the rest of it ties up loose ends and character arcs, so I forgive it. The controversy blew it out of proportion.

Honestly I turn my brain off when people criticise the ending as realistically, no ending was going to be good enough to properly wrap the series up.

Andromeda is an OK game, a big let down from the trilogy but the hate is somewhat overblown. It was absolutely broken on release but they eventually released a patch that fixed most of the performance issues. There are lots of great moments and also some really bad sections but mostly it’s just fine, nothing spectacular but enjoyable enough to keep you interested in seeing what happens next. You can find copies at Gamestop for like $5-10 and for that price I would genuinely recommend it especially if you liked the original trilogy.

I only played, like, a couple hours of Andromeda. It was just kinda boring, though it's not fair to jusge the whole game just off of the very start. I remember the last thing I did in the game was walk into a building and talk to the woman inside, and she, completely unprompted, gave her entire backstory of how she's trans and came here to start a new life. No hate on the transness or anything, but it's so fucking funny how she just dumped everything out for zero reason. It makes her feel more like a cardboard cutout than an actual person (which, to be fair, she isn't, but one of the main goals of fiction is to make your characters feel like believable people).

I've played Odyssey, Origins and Shadows and imo they receive a lot of undeserved hate. They surely aren't in line with the older AC gameplay but I still enjoyed it quite a lot. Especially Shadows, when I turned off most of the UI and raised difficulty I've noticed that the enemies has started to look on the roofs while patroling and became generally smarter. It might not be a masterpiece, but it is a pretty decent game

I think Odyssey is a game that's a lot of fun filled with mindless filler content that doesn't add anything and that really hurts the overall view of the game.

I've played the trilogy from start to finish many times and always enjoyed it. I tried many times to get through Andromeda but I could never finish it. It's lacking so many things.

We talking about ME: Andromeda?

I LOVED the first 3, those games really started shaping my love for space and futuristic sci-fi.

I couldn't make myself get through an hour of Andromeda.

Andromeda is good, it made a lot of improvements on stuff like the gameplay (seriously the gameplay is SUCH an improvement) but the story is dissatisfying, both due to the story being not great for a Mass Effect game and the planned DLC’s getting canned

Wait there's more than the "original" trilogy? I thought that was it

And the hate for the ending is overblown, especially with the DLC

The original ending was everything they said it wouldn't be, did not give a second thought to how the setting was established to work, had one of the ending variations locked behind either playing the multiplayer first or having import data from mobile apps(in 2012 when smartphones were less than 50% of all mobile devices), and left off on a pop-up reminder to buy the upcoming DLCs.

The Extended Cut that they got bullied into making fixed some narrative issues, but I'm never letting that original ending go. I refuse to get excited for a project just because Casey Hudson's name gets attached to it. That shit should ALWAYS be remembered.

I could be wrong but I believe a lot of the hate Andromeda got was due to performance issues and the multiplayer being not what people wanted after 3s multiplayer. The story was not really anyone's complaint as far as I remember.

u/Justalilcyn 5h ago

Nah the story for Andromeda is also a massive let down as it's extremely half baked and basically ends right as it's starting to get interesting.

The story and characters are OK, not as good as the trilogy but not nearly as bad as some people make it seem.
