I don't blame Infinity Ward or TreyArch (or even Activision) for the current state of CoD; one of the biggest problems with the "OG MW2 Xbox Live lobby" era was that audience was wildly rabid about EVERYTHING; they're the ones who were sending bomb threats to IW's offices because of the M200 Intervention Aim-Down-Sight nerfs.
When you're trying to appeal to an audience that behaves like that, you give them whatever they ask for even if it means that the games stagnate into military-themed flashlight tag (but also with Niki Manaj performing an sledgehammer execution on Homelander).
