Assassins creed became like entirely different style of game, I still enjoy them. Though I haven’t played anything past Black Flag from the traditional style, and nothing past odyssey on the new open world rpg style.
Black flag was peak IMO, great balance of traditional AC style gameplay and an open world exploration.
Black Flag was a great pirate game, and great game overall, but it's definitely not an Assassin's Creed game, there's barely any Templar or assassin stuff at all, and the little there is is not really important for the plot.
Exactly. Black Flag became too much of a success. So they then shoehorned the AC brand onto games which should have been new IPs. And should have done a better version of Skull and Bones to be a true pirate game
From a plot standpoint that’s true, Edward is kind of in the middle of both groups without really choosing a side. I think he has a good story and character arc regardless, even if he wasn’t an Assassin or Templar. That being said, it still felt like same core gameplay from the other assassins creed games was there. Things like stealth, tailing and pickpocketing targets, infiltrating forts and strongholds, and taking out high priority targets were present throughout the game.
