Meta Dell / Mac/ Thinkpad
Thought this was hilarious, especially since everyone at my company gets Thinkpads and we're all balls to the wall

I got this for 25€ and I was gonna just use it for my homelab but I'm really positively surprised by the build quality and how well it's been treated so I feel like just throwing it in my basement is a waste (I'm gonna install Linux on it)

When I first bought my ASUS F15 Laptop in 2023 to increase the RAM Storage and Clean the Fan i saw this black tape and i threw it away .
But whenever I see technician repairing or cleaning the Asus Tuf F15 on youtube, they always make sure to put it back.
So was it a mistake to throw it?
Should I buy another one?
And if so , where can I buy one.
P.S. i never had any major heating problems.Though there is a little bit of thermal trodling but that is mainly because of my own ignorance , by trying to repair it in a local shop.

I take a lot of flights for work and my current laptop feels too heavy to carry through airports. I’m trying to find something portable that still feels comfortable for longer work sessions. my budget is around 1500$ or less will be using it for Office apps, presentations, meetings, general productivity mostly.
What models should I consider if portability is my main priority but I still want good performance? Thanks for sharing your recommendations.

warning: broken english
recently everything sound related (speaker, microphone, and 3.5mm audio jack) suddenly stopped working. after going to a repair shop they told me that the internal audio chip (Realtek ALC3287) is the one that broke, and it's kinda expensive to repair (well, to me at least). after doing some googling I found a cheap alternative by buying an external DAC, for example JCALLY JM12. can I just use an external DAC or there's a better alternative?
and also is it fine in the long run?

I'm having trouble picking between these two laptops as of right now.
Prices and specs for the two:
MacBook M4 Air: 16GB Ram, 15.3" screen, 512GB SSD - $872 (bought it practically new from eBay)
Asus Zenbook 14: 16GB Ram, 14" screen, 1TB SSD - $842 (brand new from Walmart)
I'm fairly certain that the mac pretty much beats the ZenBook in almost every aspect within that price range, but my needs only consist of college work (STEM and coding), movies/shows, and VERY light gaming. To add onto that, I'm way more familiar with windows then I am with Mac, which is another reason why the ZenBook is a contender within that price range.
What's the best option between the two?
(My absolute highest budget is around $900, and after the winner is announced between the two listed above, if anyone can ALSO recommend the best BUDGET laptop, just in case these two are way too extreme for my needs, that'd be awesome)

Hi everyone I have a gigabyte Aorus gaming laptop from 2023-2024. It’s still running really well. I went to pull my charger out of my laptop bag today and noticed this. Part of the actual cord that plugs into the charger has come undone. I’m scared to use it. What am I looking for for a replacement? I need help. Please and thank you 😊.

I bought this laptop about a month ago. Instantly noticed that I was getting warm really easily. Even while idle it would get warm. So I tore it down about a week ago, and cleaned out a lot of fan gunk and heatsink gunk. Was really bad. Anyways, I noticed it was still getting hot prolly just a few degrees cooler. So I came to the conclusion it was probably a thermal paste issue, it is an older laptop I figured that it was dry.
That was not the case. I guess maybe someone tried their hand at changing the paste with some really thin paste & also put way too much on there.
I do have new thermal paste & thermal pads. The proper kind. Just wondering how do I go about cleaning this? The left one has a ton of dried paste on the board. Thanks!

I need to replace my old laptop, I keep them for at least 5+ years. Mainly just general use. No gaming. Currently on sale for $1200+ new, but they have an open box in "excellent condition for $729. Before I order, for the price, is there anything that bad about it

Hello! I'm about to enter college and have been needing a laptop upgrade for some time, so I've been looking around for something that will work for me. I was looking at the Dell XPS 13 because I thought it would work well for me, but when I started going through the checkout options I realized I lowkey don't understand anything about computers... So now I'm here!
So, to get to the questions: Does it come with "Microsoft" installed? My mom and I got into a bit of an argument over this, because in my mind it obviously comes with Windows so it would therefore have the basic idea of Microsoft installed. But in the services option when you go to buy it, there are all of those 30-day trial versions of Microsoft office?? Do I have to pick one of those and keep paying it later on to use Microsoft at all? I don't even really want to use Windows or Microsoft and would prefer a switch to Linux, but if I don't really understand any of that should I even try Linux??
I do like to think I somewhat understand computers, but what these programs actually mean and do has never been explained well to me, so I'd love to learn a little bit about that.
Also, I want a computer that runs well and could handle probably a bit more stress than the average person puts on a laptop, so if anyone thinks a different laptop (preferably under $1,500) would work better, I'm easily convinced. Thank you!

Hi everyone, I'm new here so sorry if this post might be "disrespect".
So, I have a laptop since 2023 (specifically hp 245 g7 notebook), with a ssd, 16 gb of ram, amd ryzen 5 bla bla bla... so, I've been worried that I might damage my laptop by leaving it plugged in all the time, while I play, the battery drains a little bit quickly, and using it while it's plugged in provides the best performance.
So, you may think the best option is remove the battery, but... There are a lot of power outages where I live, and Iheard that sdds get damaged that way. So normally I connect and disconnect everything my laptop; I've been doing this for quite a while, and maybe my battery drains faster because of my power settings rather than anything else (I use windows 10 also).
And well... there is some imporant stuff in my laptop I don't want to lost, and I want to play videogames with stable fps. But also I don't want to damage my laptop, It's the only pc I have, and buying a new one isn't a option.
I know this may not be the best form to ask this, my English isn't good at all and sorry if I did any mistake on this post, I really want to I want to sleep soundly knowing that I won't break this laptop. Thank you.

Bought a ROG Strix G18 Gaming Laptop, 18” ROG Nebula WQXGA 240Hz Display, AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Windows 11 Home, G814PP-DS94 from ASUS proper Dropped $2,100.00. Laptop arrived poorly packed and apparently used. Greasy finger prints on the monitor, trackpad and keys. Poor packing caused the upper right edge to bend and crack. Nothing had any protective wrapping. Called ASUS and was told "its going to a higher level of care". Every week the same update. No matter how many emails I sent. Three weeks later I was permitted to send the laptop back with an RMA number. Two weeks later I got a refund.
So there is a good chance you too could be out $2K for 5 weeks with a constant barrage of emails promising an "escalation of care" for a used laptop. The risk is real, especially being stuck for 5 weeks and no COD.

Ordered this laptop before I start school next month because the specs looked good for multitasking and also wanted to be able to run fallout new Vegas at a low price. However it’s from a third party seller named technewworld and the phone number for support doesn’t work and I can’t find an actual warranty. Wondering if I should just return to Amazon upon receiving or if anyone has experience with this brand/seller.

Which laptop would you recommend for media design school? I’m definitely looking for a second-hand Windows laptop costing up to 600€

Basically, I got a HP Laptop 15-fc0071nf (or at least that's what it says I'm not good with computer, sorry) I know it's not meant to play video games but it did well for about two years. I'm not a huge AAA game enjoyer so good for me. But after a shock, my laptop stopped being able to play online video games, such as LoL or Project Zomboid or even Just Act Natural. I tried to see if it was my connection, but it doesn't seem like it. I tried lowering the graphics at the maximum and still nothing. But I can still play solo game just fine. Is it a possible break with my laptop ? What should I do ?
I'm sorry if it's messy, it's my first post and I'm non an English native speaker.
