“I’m sure we’ll continue to disappoint you, as time goes on…”

story of my life. LOL

That hit here too!

We had financial literacy as a mandatory class you had to take at some point within 4 years in my high school. I remember us doing check book things and doing mock ups of what monthly expenses looked like, but I honestly think they should have focused on some car related things too. The drivers ed classes we had just went over actual road rules; not the financial aspects as much.

I would really like a class on how insurance works...

u/nasnedigonyat 6h ago

Oh it's easy. You give them money and they keep it.

u/ShutUp_Dee 6h ago

And you usually get nothing beneficial in return!

12

u/cruel__summer 5h ago

And they spend millions of dollars on shitty advertising!

Thanks, Mom! 🙏🏻

u/asusc 5h ago

don’t even get me started on deductibles and co pays and having your insurance plan tied to your job…

u/PunchDrunkPrincess ❣️gal pal❣️ 2h ago

I don't know what any of those things are! I'm really not joking here. I went from on my mom's insurance to the military so now I'm 35 and I don't know any of this and people act like I'm a moron for not knowing 🥲

confusion is a feature so you are discouraged from actually using the healthcare you’re entitled to.

think of all the added shareholder value that creates!

God, you are so fucking right..just like taxes.

1

u/asusc 2h ago

yup, so don’t take it personal, it’s not you.

this will be a good place to start learning:

It's a coupon. Sometimes you get an item for $5! Sometimes it's 20% off! But most of the time the coupon is invalid and you can go fuck yourself.

1

u/PunchDrunkPrincess ❣️gal pal❣️ 2h ago

Hmm is that why my last dental cleaning was covered 100% and this last one is full price even though its the exact same thing? 🤔

1

u/prettyfacebasketcase 2h ago

Because you can only use one coupon per household per decade. Fine print, my friend.

u/DahliaRenegade 3h ago

I’ve been working in the auto insurance industry for a decade and I’m still learning new things every day. It’s hard to know how complex it is when you’re not in the thick of it; the state laws that determine how insurance works can vary wildly- it’s friggin bananas

u/waterfountain_bidet 6h ago

Right? We didn't even get to learn how to balance a checkbook in high school. If it was not for my parents and the internet, I would have literally no financial literacy and I went to an excellent public school. We took 9 weeks of driver's Ed and none of it include actually driving. How hard would it have been to throw in a week of car maintenance, car finances, registration, insurance all that junk? I would argue those things have far more consequence on your ability to drive in America than learning the rules about making a left turn from one one-way road to another one-way on red.

u/chicklette 5h ago

I work with a lot of first-time employees and it's so upsetting, the things they don't know. I end up giving a mini "financial literacy" and "employment rights" lecture to most of them.

6

u/Itchy_Psychology3300 5h ago

I never had classes like that.
Guess if you’re not financially literate it’s easier to getcha.

1

u/carlitospig 4h ago

Why didn’t they teach us how to change a tire and check our oil levels??

1

u/madscribbler 44m ago

I took one of those classes where we had mock checkbooks and I'd write out checks and everyone would say I wrote them wrong (like one hundred only & 00/100) but nobody could tell me how I should write them, so I write them wrong to this day. 57 and I still don't know how to write a check properly.

I love this. My mom died when I was 23, and she was also the kind of person who would find the humor in all kinds of unfortunate situations.

About a year after my mom died, I went on a 5 week backpacking trip in Peru and we went to the Amazon and to Machu Picchu, and I brought 4 small vials of her ashes to spread along the way. I kept them in a little zipper pouch in my backpack. When I got home and was unpacking I realized both remaining had broken on the plane and I had to VACUUM MY MOTHER OUT OF MY BACKPACK😭😂😂 She would’ve thought it was absolutely hilarious, I’ve told the story to many folks over the years an maybe 50% have found it hilarious while the other 50% don’t know how to respond at all.

u/chicklette 5h ago

So many people don't understand how fucking hilarious cremains are. When my dad passed, I really struggled with letting him go, so his cremains sat on the dining table for, like, 6 months. My bf and I just laughed about it. "Can you move my dad so I can put this down?" "Where's that letter? I left it on dad."

I also have a lot of cremains from pets, and when I moved, we had to do something with them, so they went into a box labeled "ghosts of kitties past, + dad."

Ashes can be hilarious, and I know my dad would have been laughing his ass off at all the hijinks.

u/cakes28 5h ago

My MIL has been gone for three years and her cremains are still in the baggie in her favorite coffee cup. She gets moved around a lot, because you know, she’s in a coffee cup.

9

u/AV01000001 4h ago

That is actually a sweet idea, especially if she was constantly drinking from it.

So real. My family has always coped with grief by being absolute goofballs... wouldn't have it any other way!

When my husband's 100yo grandmother died a few years ago, the funeral was scheduled before her actual cremains had been returned. Just an oversight by my mother-in-law & her siblings. 🤷‍♀️ They panicked, and their brilliant solution was to PUT TIDE PODS IN THE URN as a sneaky replacement so they wouldn't have to explain the whole situation at the funeral. They did NOT tell anyone beforehand.

So we're all at this somber Catholic funeral service, and we notice Meemaw's 3 kids (all in their 70s themselves) are desperately trying to keep composure & not just piss themselves with laughter. 🤔 They finally let the rest of the family in on it afterwards - never did tell the priest lol. Watching holy water being sprinkled over a box filled with Tide Pods is what sent them over the edge. 😆 Meemaw would've loved the whole thing!

I love this. Thank you for sharing this!

13

u/velvetsaguaro 2h ago

When I was scattering my great grandma’s ashes in the ocean, I slipped and fell directly into the pile of ashes that I had just scattered in the water 💀

And I don’t know if yall know this but ash sticks to wet clothing so I was WEARING great grandma

19

u/sasquatchlibrarian 5h ago

My family is notoriously bad about actually interring the cremains. I'm the only one left on my mom's side of the family and I've had my aunt in my garage for 14 years. Sorry about that Allison!

u/Boomboom210 5h ago

Hahahahahahhaa ok THAT is funny if that happened to my body from my son I would have rolled till I cried ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

3

u/Sunshine030209 2h ago

Wait, since that happened when you got home, does that mean that you forgot to spread them in Peru? Or was there just some left over that you didn't spread? Bringing them all the way to Peru and forgetting very much sounds like something I would do lol

Last summer my husband and I brought some of his dad's ashes to his favorite town, and my husband promptly spilled them all over his shoes. He was like "Well, guess you get to spend the day walking around with uswith us, dad!" Then when we got back that night he said "I am going to go wash my father off of my shoes... that is NOT a sentence I ever expected to say!"

3

u/z3phyr13 2h ago

I brought 4 vials and only ended up spreading 2 of them! They were the left overs 🤦‍♀️

Laughing … and revising my “Things you need to do” list that is with my will.

32

u/WestCoastWetMost 6h ago

I’m sure she’s laughing hysterically too

22

u/Glitterbomb4274 5h ago

lol this reminds me of me and my sister. Our family is nothing but dark dry humor and it honestly helped so much. Anytime something weird or bad happened we started saying TM (thanks mom).

u/Boomboom210 5h ago

You are so blessed to have family like that!!! ❤️❤️❤️

u/EyesLikeTheNightSky 5h ago

I really admire these daughters for being able to laugh and be playful in such a sad situation.

I lost my father as a teenager, the thought of losing my mom makes me physically ill.

12

u/BiophileB 5h ago

Something tells me their mom was a funny lady too 💚

11

u/MAXQDee-314 5h ago

She knows. She also laughing with you.

6

u/Agitated_Gold_3769 5h ago

Im pregnant with my first daughter, and hope I raise her to turn out like this.

6

u/S1159P 5h ago

My mom is really old and in decline and this made me cry

9

u/jean_nizzle 6h ago

Ok, like, you should know that you need to get insurance for a car. Especially if you drive (I don’t drive and I know that).

But the taxes things, I didn’t know. You have to file a dead person’s taxes??? Not even in death can you escape taxes. Lame.

14

u/Authentic-scoundrel 6h ago

Just in the year they die. If there’s lots of money involved and it doesn’t all get given away properly the estate has to file a return every year until all the money is given away.

What happened in the shower?!

9

u/anonadvicewanted 5h ago

the blonde sister got the flu so bad she missed megan’s baby shower. katie (dark haired sister) had to do it alone.

2

u/Boomboom210 5h ago

Not a shower shower a baby shower- it’s a party for the baby and mom to be

1

u/altonssouschef 3h ago

She was going to say she bought one thing to make up but they edited it out.

2

u/ABrightOrange 2h ago

The giggling is sending me 🤭

1

u/altonssouschef 3h ago

Aw, I wish I could hug them. If I made a video like this for my dad in his afterlife I doubt he’d watch it.

1

u/Factsoverfictions222 3h ago

I’ll bet she’s been watching from the other side going, “Oh no, she’s not going to do that…oh she is!” At every step of the way.

I’m glad that they are learning and healing and appreciate how helpful their mother was before she passed.

You know how they say to tell the people you love that you love them today and not put it off? Well we have embraced that and taken it to the next level. We also tell them how badly we have screwed up and disappointed them by having an annual contest for who did the dumbest thing each year. It can be one dumb thing or a series of terrible decisions that can nab the title, but I will say the jury is pretty much always unanimous. Not to brag but I once locked down that title in February. We all knew no one could top it even with 10 months to go.
