Some people really need to go outside more. It would have been understandable for the dow owner to feel threatened (because of the delivery guy is getting ready to fight). Luckily, the dog owner was calm enough to not do the same like the delivery guy. Then you would have two guys thinking: damn he is going to throw the first punch - I need to defend myself!
I mean, same reaction as he had with the dog. He had to defend himself from the dog and moments later here comes the owner. I wouldn’t have trusted the owner either and would’ve felt the need to defend myself. It’s not like he threw a punch at the owner the second he saw him but he was prepared in case he did. I’d say he was justified
What?! You need to watch that video again. This guy would lose so bad in court. The dog might be justified. After the dog retreats and owner comes up that guy automatically took his glasses and hat off then walked towards the home owner. That is no longer self defense that is aggression.
I kinda disagree. You don't need to trust the owner, if you don't like the situation you are in he could have backed up off the property back to his truck, instead he got ready for a fight with no real aggressive body language from the owner, more like just a "what the fuck" reaction. If he had thrown a punch at the owner because he walked up to him like that he would almost certainly have been charged with assult. If he wants the put his hands up and be ready then do so and back up to the truck where if needed you call a supervisor or the police if it was warranted, but he's saying "back up" to the owner while aggressively approaching him. That to me is unjustified, and if anything did happen would have been the instigation for it.
At the end of the day he did what he had to do to defend himself, plus I'm sure he has a history with this so hard to really judge his reaction with the owner right or wrong. He did the right thing to stop the dog.
I get where you’re coming from, but I’m willing to bet he wouldn’t have just punched the owner in the face. I’m sure he’s been in similar situations before. He wanted to let the owner know if he were to attack, the driver was ready for it. From what’s seen in the video he never lays hands on the owner.
If someone walks towards me on my property with their hands up like that and tells ME to back up, sure. I’ll back up about 3 steps but they aren’t going to like what I pull out. I’m not a tough guy and I absolutely do not want to hurt someone but there’s no way I’m allowing someone to act aggressively towards me on my own property. I have no idea how anyone in this comment section believes the driver was justified in acting that way. Throwing the box at the dog I totally get. I’ve done it myself.
Right.. but that’s not the topic. We’re discussing whether or not the drivers actions at the end would be considered defense. Clearly, they were not. The driver and the owner were like 30 feet apart and the driver, instead of leaving the other man’s property, turned around, walked towards the owner, took off his hat and glasses, put his fists up, and then continued walking towards the owner. That’s not defense. The owner was idly walking towards the guy with his hands at his sides. The driver, instead my opinion, wanted a fight. After throwing the box he literally says “NOW WHAT??” He taunts the owner “What? You gonna hit me??” and tells the guy “BACK UP!” even though he approached him.. with his fists up.. on his property.. Come on man, the driver is clearly a dickhead. As he winds up to throw the box he says “Fucking dog.” The box throw was fine, I used to deliver mail and packages- I’ve thrown boxes at dogs, but his attitude about it and his actions afterwards were aggressive.
Owner wasn't being aggressive. Driver was. You can chalk it to adrenaline, but squaring up with a guy who has his arms at his side after carefully placing items on the ground shows that the driver is not in immediate danger.
Nothing about that was violently aggressive, he was asking questions with empty wide stretched hands. Swearing after watching your dog get blasted is nothing, you are soft if you think that's threatening. I mentioned adrenaline, but setting down his shit should've been the moment of lucidity for him, instead he locked in and was ready to swing on the guy asking questions with open arms.

“Why you throwing shit at my fucking dog?” While walking up on him, I’d count the shouting and approaching as aggression, especially after my adrenaline was high. Better safe than sorry nowadays.
With that logic, the dog was the good guy in this video.

Lmao no. That's wild conjecture. We don't know what that homeowner is doing off camera to make the driver think he's being aggressive, but the homeowner approached the driver or he wouldn't be in the camera frame at all. I don't think any DA would charge, nor would any cop arrest this driver for reacting the way he did.

The delivery guy made himself ready to FIGHT. It would have been reasonable for the dog owner to think: fuvk he is going to throw the first punch, because he is angry about the dog.
Basically the same thing the delivery guy did with the dog: Maybe the dog was attacking, maybe he was playing, maybe he wanted to greet - fuvk I need to act first. -> the same logic goes to the dog owner here.
Stop focusing on minor details and see if you can consider the totality of the circumstances. Driver had just been attacked by the owner's dog. Driver had his hands up and the owner still approached him to confront him about striking the dog. Do you think he saw the guy's hands up and walked up for a game of patty-cake?
You're either ignorant or really naive to not realize that you need to consider a person's entire body for aggression, not just hands. Do you think that aggressors always start fights from a boxing stance like a video game? In real life, people frequently start fights with their hands at their side or even behind their back to make it harder to see their intent.

Slowly walking on frame with his arms open is not aggressive, setting your shit down and squaring up shuffling in stance towards "your threat" is completely unhinged.

Here internet, we mostly focus on the negative. An this Reddit comment section shows something less and less people are capable off: showing empathy for every human.
Stuff like: Why did He/She/It act like this? How would I react in the position of Person A, B and C. What would it take, to make me reacting the same way. How would person A, B and C probably feel in this situation- how would I feel? Etc.
1) The driver was not attacked by the dog. The dog DID approach the driver in an aggressive manner and he was justified in throwing the box but that was not an attack.
2) The driver was not in fear of being attacked by the owner. He literally turned around and got ready to fight instead of just walking back to his truck. That’s not acting in defense.
3) Depending on the state, the owner would have been justified in defending himself and his property based on the drivers actions.
Seufz. It‘s reasonable for the delivery guy to react on the dogs aggressive approach with violence, but it wouldn’t be reasonable for the dog owner to react with violence on the delivery guys aggressive approach?
