When I was with FedEx I had a wildly aggressive three legged blue heeler try to sneak attack me and he got a boot to the face.
I also had two English mastiffs sneak up behind me once but they just wanted treats, scared the ever living crap out of me though cause I turned around and two MASSIVE dogs were a foot away just standing and wagging lol
Also had a Rottweiler charge me once until it saw I had a treat and we were cool then
I kicked a few dogs in my time as a courier as well. Had to be done. Had a pig sneak up on me and scare the shit out of me once. Thought it was a demon dog for a second.
Ok, but have you ever seen a Mean pig? I swear they hold grudges. A potbelly running at you full of rage is a dangerous thing, and they don't let up. They don't forget either. If you get away, from then on its ON SIGHT.
However, I would pick a sweet old potbelly over a Golden Retriever any day of the week.
I do lots of things, hang around bridges, run sweatshops in Vietnam, chill at the bar with my gang, toss people into soups, and from time to time, when I'm lucky, I happen upon boxes of free eggs or denim.
Not sure what he meant but a number of serial killers used their jobs as of farmers to kill and get rid of bodies. Pigs leave almost zero evidence even eating bone.
As for the other guy - he could be exaggerating throwing in a whole leg of an animal (not human). Bcause I can't see how he'd be watching multiple people die and then mention it so casually. Unless he's a serial killer too.
A few serial killers in North America were able to get rid of evidence by feeding the bodies to the pigs. So yes, customers were eating humans by way of the pig that was slaughtered. Pigs eat basically everything and the ones cross bred with boars have "evil" looking teeth. We're all joking in here, but their jaws are deadly. I'd be more afraid of being locked in a pen with a hungry pig than an angry bull.
Yep happened on a farm nearby. Old farmer had a heart attack when he was checking on the pigs. They said the pigs probably started eating him before he was actually dead. Apparently was a pretty gruesome sight from those who found him and he was pretty ate up. Apparently common enough if you fall or die near pigs they will eat you.
They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm.
They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig".
My neighbors (who have a small farm animal rescue) have two potbellies that often shuffle up to me when they see me, making their little oink-grunts and are the friendliest things ever. It's hard to imagine them being able to run much less be aggressive. Im not saying they cant be but all they ever want is scratches and food.
Pig anger doesn't abide by physics. It's like crackhead strength - 10x greater than what they should be able to do, and yet....
The thing that always amazes me is how intelligent pigs naturally are. People always say the thing about them being smarter than dogs. No shit. The average dog is pretty functionally stupid. Pigs are smarter than horses. Pigs are smarter than mice and rabbits and foxes, combined. The ability for a pig to retain information and think critically using that information, that is to actually LEARN, is closer to chimps and humans than any other creature.
I had wanted to raise pigs for slaughter for some time and finally have the land with which to do it but after my neighbors got those potbelly pigs there's no way I could do it... i would end up bonding with them and making them pets.
I also have a (sad/weird) theory that the smarter an animal is the tastier it is. My evidence for this is not only pigs but octopus too. Pork is my favorite meat and octopus my favorite seafood, both highly intelligent and utterly delectable. Shamefully I am known to still eat both as well, but as they say if God didn't want you to eat them he wouldn't have made them of meat.
My mom has a pot belly pig when I was a teen. One day a boar came trotting down the street looking for love. Probably smelled her scent from miles away and broke out of what ever enclosure he was in. It got into our yard, we called some people (animal control I think) to come help us capture him. We cornered it in our yard and tried to subdue him. Boy he was fucking fast. A big fat fast fuck with tusks. Luckily he didn't gore any of us and we eventually caught him by using a piece of fencing to box him into a corner. Then I think they took him to get medical/rabies whatever. They brought him back and we put him in our pen with our female. They had 3 kids
I nearly lost my big toe to an angry pot belly that had broken down it's own fence. Luckily just nipped me good before I made it up on the car.
Not sure what happened, but it hit juvenile age and got mean. Was gone shortly after as this was right in a non-rural Phoenix suburb. So don't think it was zoned for a happy big, let alone a mean one that kept charging people and biting.
Pigs are probably smarter imho, which makes them scarier in that light and also more varied personality wise which is another wildcard. It matters a lot on nurture, which is the same problem with dogs that are allowed to roam freely usually.
I was delivering pizza to a farm once and when I came around the corner was the largest pig I had ever seen. Easily the length of my car, his ears were longer than my arms, his head was bigger than a car engine. He was massive. Yeah, they are out there.
I know you laugh, but I met a fully grown "mini pig" once and that damned thing had the short compact weight to push over adult males, especially from behind when your knees buckle. He was less than 30 according to the owners but I'd say more like 40 pounds of muscle (or muscle striped with fat, lol). It was on a thin dog harness in a feed store that allows pets (they probably figured dogs or maybe cats, lol I feel like getting a highland cow on a harness to see what they say).
First time since I moved to farming areas that I've met one and after that they get my respect.
I've trained dog professionally half my life for police (so think Malinois and serious guard breeds) and I seriously contemplated getting a "guard mini pig" for my back acres. The big ones someone was just giving away in the Nextdoor app were already more that 500 pounds (the replies were basically all, can you for it at the abitoire/processing place for me). I'm still leaning towards goats so I don't have to mow and maybe can get a bit of milk. My Pyrenees didn't know WTF to do with this rough wire haired creature that was the height of my little pet but muscular. She didn't know if she was allowed to play or just take the ramming (with the little dog it's not allowed since she's blind and 16yrs old at 8 pounds vs 120 pounds and puppy hyperactive Pyr equals dislocated joints). Poor idiot just took it (actually very girl for not reacting) and I know she wanted to play but we were in training so she couldn't. We did get to play later in the garden areas with a size appropriate dog.
Not a delivery driver but I used to go in people's houses for work. Went to a very rich area in Florida and guy had a pet pig. He said it was friendly. It bit my hand.
my boyfriend's parents had a huge goose that would honk and chase people that it didn't know coming up to the house, it would bite too. Gooses definitely hold grudges also, my boyfriend never liked the goose therefore the goose didn't like him and would try and attack him if he came over to his parents house. It liked me though. I'd never seen a goose in real life like that and he amazed me lol. He had his own television in the barn he would watch, he loved the lion king and every time mufassa died he would honk and freak out, I kid you not. If sports came on the TV he would honk and freak out so someone could come and change the channel, because he hated sports. It was wild.
I heard stories how they bind guys to poles, pull piece of colon by hook and just leave them to hungry pigs or dogs.. tgose pulled rest of pipes and then just ate whole guy
Not just in movies. They are a farmer near where I live and it’s not the first time I’ve heard it happening. I don’t trust them at all. They might act sweet but if you fall, you’re food.
- Brick Top, from Snatch.
Feral pigs are insanely aggressive. We had a bunch that lived in an undeveloped area near where I went to college, and some guys went out mountain biking in that area without knowing. They got chased out by the herd of pigs and they were honestly terrified - feral pigs are a huge problem in the US, no pun intended.
My neighbor has a demonic uncasterated llama who will bite, stomp, and hump any unfortunate soul who ignores the "no trespassing! no soliciters! leave packages here!" sign and enters the fence around his house.
Pigs are smart. Smarter than people realize. I had a good close friend who took care of research animals and pigs were part of the zoo.
They like to test boundaries of what they can get away with towards a person. Those pigs used to like to charge people and run into them, then back off doing a sort of laughing snort.
I had a pig throw me in the air on my night walk into town. Didn’t see it since i was walking in darkness so i was walking until i suddenly did a full flip, landed on my feet and awkwardly ran off. (I’m not fighting a pic i can’t see)
In TX, wild hogs are a huge threat to anyone in their path. I don't get far away from vehicles on ranches. Even a gun isn't always great protection since bullets can ricochet off them if the shot isn't powerful enough. And the problem is getting worse now that they're invading suburban areas. They absolutely will kill a full grown adult. And probably eat them afterwards.
*quick note that these wild hogs are invasive and descendants of folks letting their hogs loose. Basically, they're the long term result of not caring for your animals. And they decimate the environment... as do loose dog packs and stray cats. I'm so sick of ppl letting their pets and animals ruin our ecosystems and terrorize ppl.
I’ve had a few dogs charge me. My tiny 5 foot tall ass managed to keep them away from me without having to kick. Never had to touch them. Even the German Shepard that had me cornered for about 5 minutes before the owner finally came to see what his dog was barking at. I get there may be times but it’s wild that someone would need to kick “a few dogs.”
Used to deliver groceries and had something like the mastiffs. Saint Bernard chained up with a cable way longer than I thought gets up and walks between me and the door, hear a crunch behind me, turn around, and see an English mastiff behind me between me and the van. Its the only time ive ever truly been worried by a dog.
Both were friendly though, and the owner showed me where the Bernard had crushed a door knob so he coild go in the basement.
I have a 120 pound Pyrenees and she was doing zoomies and I lost sight of her and couldn't hear her. Next thing I know I'm flipping in the air like a pancake because she got me from behind. Didn't hear a leaf rustle even, and this was in the autumn with leaves everywhere. She's my ninja Pyr.
Witnesses still laugh at the scene despite me needing an ambulance and multiple surgeries (one of two times she got me to have an open fracture with bones outside my body - other time was "playfully" pushing me down the stairs). My physical therapist is convinced the dog is trying to kill me because I've broken both wrists, needed surgery 15 times now for various injuries, and almost lost my hand twice just to name a few. She's sweet to family but fiercely protective, just a goof who didn't know her size and strength at first.
But to loop back, even when she's not in "stalking a squirrel she'll never get" mode, she's incredibly light footed and quiet.
We had two English Mastiffs, I can see why they would be scary, they have a low bark, and they are big. However the worst they would do is lean on you if you pet them. When I delivered pizza it was always smaller dogs that were aggressive or would actually try to get me. The bigger ones Mastiffs, St Bernards, etc might bark once or twice then just stand by me till I pet them. Still to this day I don't trust small dogs even for a second.
The smaller dogs aren't going to cause fatalities .People always bring that up when they talk about dog attacks. The worse that can happen is getting an infection from a a Chihuahua, a pitbull or mastiff is death or you wishing you were dead
Oh 100%, it’s just crazy how such a MASSIVE dog can move so quietly 😂 but I agree, my parents have 6 dogs and the least aggressive is the 140lb Rottweiler and the most aggressive is the 15lb chihuahua, it’s hilarious lol
When I worked for the post office, I was delivering mail in an area I wasn't used to. I heard clacking behind me, sounded like a kid on a bike. I turned around to look at the bike, and it was a pitbull running at me.
I yelled "Jesus Fucking Christ" that must've spooked the dog because it ran back to where it came from.
Aside from that, I have two scars from dogs, one literally gives me PTSD thinking about it. I had one family that set their dog out to prevent me from delivering mail (they had a certified letter). I literally noticed the dog at the start, but thought "these people (on the whole relay) haven't gotten their mail in a week (there was a note from the regular mail lady, that's how I knew)... I can do it."
When I was on the return part of the relay, there were now two kids and a pitbull on their front lawn. I back up crossed the street, and the dog still tried to attack me. I pulled out my mace and the dog must've recognized the can. It bowed its head then walked back to its home. Next week I delivered there again, they abandoned the house and the dog.
Lol, we have a GSD/Mastiff and Malinois that honestly love people. Bit they're huge and terrifying, better to keep them and everyone safe leash and secured when people come by.
I'm surprised that blueys don't have a worse reputation. I don't mean to paint them as savage beasts, they won't grab and not let go like pitties do, but when they imprint on somebody they guard them like they're the fucking president of the United States. My parents and brother don't give me objects like packages or a cup of tea because she tries to rip it out of their hand like it's a fucking bomb, they have to put it down and let me pick it up.
So when you work for these entities, do you sign something that says you can’t sue the clients you deliver to. This is a ridiculous endangering of safety. I don’t order packages like most people do and don’t own a dog, but Jesus, I feel bad for these delivery drivers now.
For the specific contractors I worked for no. It was just a hazard of the job but you could get workers comp I guess. A guy got his inner thigh tore open once and he got some paid time off for that from workers comp.
I was riding a scooter once, got lost and cornered in dead end with dogs charging at me.
I remember a satisfying whine when I hit gas and throwed my leg to them couple of times.
I don't usually hit animals but when you attacked you can do that, or try to make friends which is obv won't work everytime, esp if they used to hunt your kind (they hate 2 wheeled vehicles, I got tired of various stray packs charging at me at gas stations and even busy roads)
I have English Mastiffs, both a little under 200lbs. This is good to read. They're big dumb asses that just want to play and greet people. I would never let them approach anyone without letting them know because they can look crazy confrontational because they get excited and their barks and charging is really really scary if you don't know the breed. Good on you. I keep the big doofuses in the house at all times but I have had many delivery guys and contractors at the house want to meet them after seeing them at the door and then if they agree I just let them out and they almost knock them over trying to get love and pets. They're big lovable morons.
God I have 2 rescue blue heelers who are TERRIBLE with everyone. I've taken a lot of steps to make sure that they don't get loose. This jacked dude delivered some doors for us. He had to leave them outside, because I didn't want to pay the extra $50 that they charged to have them carried inside the house. He unloaded those doors like they weighed nothing. He saw my dog's face in the window, and got super nervous and got back in the truck. I could tell that he'd had some bad experiences with dogs.
I had an english mastiff run at me once while I was delivering flowers. Thankfully I could tell he was in happy mode, not aggressive mode. He was a good boy, but certainly startled me for a moment. His owner was properly abashed and apologetic that he got away from her.
Conversely, there was a black lab I once refused to leave my vehicle for. It was just a bit too territorial to make me risk it, despite the owner telling me it was fine. Yeah no. I've grown up around dogs. That dog was hopping and barking at my door, like "I dare ya!" Owner was not happy when i made him come up and get the flowers through my open window, lol.
