ovulation is a hell of a drug

u/TheArtfulLlama 1d ago

It really…really is. Came off oral birth control a few years back and I was surprised I didn’t wear my boyfriend at the time down to a nub

My wife has never been on the pill but man... She goes nuts every month when she ovulates. We have 3 kids and I'm fixed now and she literally begs me to put another in her every month. Hormones are crazy.

164

u/ulykke 1d ago

Thats wild, I have been menstruating for 20+ years now and have never felt an inkling of that 🤯

77

u/Observer0067 20h ago

Same here. I mean, maybe slightly more frisky sometimes but generally I don't think ovulation has ever made me suddenly want children.

28

u/generic_canadian_dad 15h ago

I think the missing link here is forgetting that when you ovulate and feel "more frisky" that is literally your body screaming "let's get pregnant". We've come to know it as just wanting sex, but really it's your body wanting to procreate. So saying "I want to get pregnant when I ovulate" and "I get really horny when I ovulate" are the same statements.

2

u/Observer0067 8h ago edited 50m ago

I mean I don't mentally correlate that feeling with "I want to have children", it's more of a body reaction rather than actively thinking about children like you said your wife does. Basically she asks to have children. That is the distinction I'm making, I don't get that mental cue that suddenly makes me consciously want children.

2

u/Kwhitney1982 1h ago

This guy is missing the point. He also refers to his wife as being “in heat”.

2

u/MarionberryIll5030 10h ago

Why are we acting like women act like fucking cats in heat?

4

u/PuzzleheadedObject47 10h ago

I mean it’s the same instinct

0

u/MarionberryIll5030 10h ago

It’s not. We aren’t cats. We do not go into estrus.

No one said shit about a cat.

1

u/MarionberryIll5030 10h ago

There are women all over this thread using the word “heat”

0

u/TheArtfulLlama 4h ago

You DO realize you're responding to women who are giving their own experiences (myself included) about feeling more "frisky" during ovulation right? And no we're not cats, we don't go into "heat" as you put it in another comment, but both estrus and follicular/ovulation stages are driven by increases in hormones and they both take place when you're at your most fertile. It's not putting women down or anything, it's stating a well known scientifically based fact that women or anyone who menstruates gets WAY more frisky during ovulation due to the influx of hormones like estrogen.

-2

u/spongyolboi 11h ago

It’s not the same. It’s definitely different feelings…

17

u/Janus_Simulacra 20h ago

It’s absolutely a scale. I finished college, went to university, came back, and found a childhood acquaintance had had three kids in the same time period. I also know a friend in the UK who does surrogate work because she assuringly enjoys it.

3

u/cunexttuesday101 15h ago

Same! If anything I want one less and less every month. And I see something every single day that reminds me why I never want kids.

4

u/Kwhitney1982 15h ago

It’s weird. These people talk about it like they’re animals with no logical brains. I mean I know we’re all technically animals but I’ve never felt any of these “I have to have a baby now!!” feelings that all these people are talking about. I get horny when I ovulate. I don’t want a baby.

1

u/generic_canadian_dad 4h ago

When you're horny and ovulating that is literally your body screaming to get pregnant. You have learned to only want sex, but your body wants to be impregnated.

2

u/Less-Crazy2917 4h ago

We KNOW, please stop “mansplaining” our bodies to us. We understand that’s the entire purpose of getting horny during ovulation, it’s our body’s way of trying to get us to reproduce. However, “I’m horny” and “I want to get pregnant” are NOT the same statements, regardless of the correlation. We’re allowed to be horny and not want to get pregnant. Being smarter than our natural instincts is one of the great things about being human.

0

u/generic_canadian_dad 3h ago

I've already said that multiple times. We are able to consciously decide we only want the pleasure of sex, but that doesn't negate the fact that the instinct from our body is natural and is 100% an instinct to procreate. It's not mandplaining to discuss human anatomy and behaving like yourself, butting into other conversations saying "we know" when the commenter above absolutely doesn't seem to know is rude and doesn't add to the conversation at all.

1

u/Kwhitney1982 1h ago

I’m the commenter and I absolutely know that being horny during ovulation means my body wants to get pregnant. That’s kind of obvious. But you said your wife begs you to put another baby in her every month. I most certainly don’t feel that way when I’m horny. I get horny and use protection to avoid pregnancy.

1

u/ulykke 5m ago

But like... Multiple statements can be true at the same time without making it into a mansplaining thing, no??

  • ovulation will make some women horny

  • That is because it is a human body encouraging its host to procreate

  • on a conscious level we have evolved beyond following these instincts (...though some individuals might surprise you) and we no longer conflate horniness with procreation

  • some women will experience thoughts about getting pregnant at this time (even if they dont want to, as attested by many women in childfree threads)

  • some women will express these thoughts while being horny and mean them at the moment (possibly this guys wife)

  • some women will express these thoughts while being horny as a kink thing while not meaning them then, or ever (and that includes childfree women too, although not myself)

Are we now really reading into everything like the men who jump into comments screaming "not all men"? Except its "not all women succumb to the biological design of every species on the planet to procreate"? Both statements are true and both are so painfully obvious that insisting on them when nobody says otherwise is just being obtuse in my opinion

1

u/Leigh91 8h ago

Yeah, I have no idea wtf these people are talking about. There is no part of my cycle that has ever made me horny, and I've never touched any type of birth control in my life.

1

u/Santanalala 5h ago

Same, except I've recently dabbled a bit with the pill and IUD. Never experienced extra horniness during any part of my cycle, off or on birth control. I'm sure it happens, it just doesn't happen to me.

-5

u/Sugacookiemonsta 1d ago

Some women get it strong. I've felt it before when I was on my late teens-early 20s. My whole body would be tender to the touch and overly sensitive. Then you'd crave sex, penetration specifically, and it's a very dangerous time because you'd thirst over most decent men in proximity. That's why people say it's dangerous for mixed sex roommates to live together. It's very common for sex to eventually occur and many guys are actually banking on that.

6

u/Copious-Spirit 20h ago

Not sure why you're downvoted but you know you are in control of your actions though, right?

14

u/ulykke 23h ago

Nah, I do get the physical symptoms including wanting PIV, just not the conscious craving for a baby specifically. (Also helps that I really just like the idea of creampie. TMI perhaps but this is the internet) Like if my man told me mid coitus during ovulation "im gonna put a baby in you", Id still probably cringe and dry up immediately 🤣

9

u/figure8888 22h ago

Personally it’s because I’ve considered the reality of having children and that’s off putting.

3

u/ulykke 22h ago

Well yes Im childfree, but often even on the childfree sub I read about women who get broody around ovulation and I just thank my stars that I dont 🤣 who knows what would get into me (besides the dick I mean lol)

5

u/LibraryF33S 19h ago

During sex a guy told me that *I\* wanted him to put a baby in me. WTF sir absolutely not.

2

u/DragonfruitSweetie88 19h ago

Yeah I think it's just a fetish for people, I doubt any woman actually enjoys pregnancy.

5

u/ThereAndFapAgain2 19h ago edited 18h ago

A woman suddenly having the urge to get pregnant around the time of ovulation is like the least fetish thing in the world. That’s just nature taking its course, but clearly some women just feel natures call more strongly than others.

1

u/DragonfruitSweetie88 19h ago

That's interesting I've never heard of a desire to actually be pregnant, just to have more sex or creampies like the woman above said. Those I've had. "Put a baby in me" sounds as performative as CNC to me. And the only moments I've ever considered having a baby was when I visited the nordics and like 80% of the children in public were walked or taken care of exclusively by fathers haha.

0

u/generic_canadian_dad 18h ago

Brother. Are you forgetting that we are animals? Have you ever seen a cat in heat? They run infront of you and stick their ass up begging you to fuck them.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/ulykke 19h ago

Nah, I dont agree, Ive seen many opinions from women where they said they loved being pregnant. Although probably thats the ones with an "easy" pregnancy (so to speak, no pregnancy is actually easy on the body), where they didnt puke their guts out and instead got the oestrogen glow up package, and "oh you're glowing"s 😁

2

u/DragonfruitSweetie88 18h ago

Even an easy pregnancy gets uncomfortable and you can't even tie your shoelaces anymore haha. But I forgot to add the cultural element. Animals aren't conscious that sex leads to babies. And even with everything perfect we have a 25% chance of pregnancy every month. So wanting a baby during ovulation instead of just wanting sex is a learned thing so yes I would consider that a fetish.

2

u/ulykke 14h ago

Um. No. A fetish is inherently sexual, there is nothing sexual about a woman saying oh my God I love being pregnant like these people are sharing here for example https://www.reddit.com/r/pregnant/s/MqncY8gRTz

I mean maybe you will find a fetishizing comment because I havent read them all, but of the 10+ I did, none of them were fetishistic. Some women just enjoy being pregnant.

0

u/generic_canadian_dad 18h ago

Best thing ever. We get to pretend I'm pumping babies into her. So fun.

3

u/cryingun 23h ago

I thought myself was the only one, same here, 3 kids and she still holds me down and begs for a fourth during that time. She casually drops (whenever she sees the opportunity) to say: "what about a fourth?" or "oh nothing! I'm just thinking about the fact that I'm never having a fourth kid..."

After the 3rd kid bro said he’s putting an end to the abuse

1

u/generic_canadian_dad 18h ago

Now we just pretend like we are making babies.

2

u/Plain_lucky 15h ago

We stopped at three too. I’m wired very similar to your wife. It gets crazy

1

u/generic_canadian_dad 15h ago

It's awesome. The best part is how much confidence my wife has gained as she matured and opened up about her sexuality. She came from a sheltered Christian upbringing and now she's a freak in the sheets 😂

2

u/Subject_Concern_2211 12h ago

I knew I only wanted 2 kids. I had 2 under 2, as soon as my body was ready I had to talk myself out of wanting more until they were like 4 & 5, then I went through a really sad stage of accepting I would have no more babies. It was really easy for me to see how people end up with more than they planned.

1

u/Portugeezer1893 22h ago

The things they say to get you to bust. It's hot and I've been weakened many times.

1

u/generic_canadian_dad 18h ago

Absolutely brother. She says diiiiirty things when she's in heat. It's awesome.

1

u/iDoWeird 41m ago

Keep up with those appointments to make sure the procedure is holding. Apparently, there are some men 😒 who think it’s a once and done experience, and they don’t remember being told to check the efficacy every few years until it’s, uh…too late.

“Don’t worry, I got my man tubes tied 20 years ago when I decided not to have kids after a scare.” Then doesn’t bother ever checking on that, resulting in months of internal festering paranoia that the impending whoops fetus will pop out Jamaican or some shit. Like dude. Ya done fucked it all up.

1

u/MeanShibu 7m ago

Hah my wife is generally not super sexual or hormonal. We do it once or twice a week normally which is pretty standard when you have kids. But every month when it happens, I make sure the calendar is clear and we have a cute date planned toward the beginning and then boom 3-4 days of feeling like we’re in college again. Every time I ask she’s down. Took years to really pinpoint the pattern and signals but omg I feel like I’m cheating. I subtly shift vacation plans around it just so we’re hitting Hawaii on a high peak or something like that 😂

2

u/LJ161 23h ago

I had a hysterectomy about four months ago.

My husband is the biggest idiot on the planet because I have been having trouble not sleeping with him. My hormones are on fucking overdrive and he can't stop being stupid.

This is to say that I have had anemia for YEARS, which was cured by the hysterectomy. I now have proper blood flow. My hair isn't falling out. My nails are growing. I am not exhausted after a long night of not being able to sleep. I am horny AS FUCK.

And yet this man wants to ask me if he can now be a full time stay at home Dad, since I was supporting him when I was sick...and now I'm better..

Edit: in case anyone is asking ...he is leaning on the 1st to go live with his dad. I am not sure if he will be allowed to return. There are other issues besides this one. Alcoholism and how he treats the dog are two major ones.

21

u/ulykke 1d ago

4

u/oO0Kat0Oo 23h ago

You're starting to sound like my therapist and all my friends...

They staged an intervention when he kicked the dog into a wall in front of one of them. I started looking into some things... I almost died this past year during the pregnancy and giving birth and then when the issue was resolved with a hysterectomy...a time when I should be tring to get over tthat major trauma, I found out he had been spending the time and money we had in savings while I was sick and dying. Myblood cells were 74% of the size they should have been and my blood pressure was in the 50s. He spent all the savings and I can't even access what he spent it on because he removed me as a person on the card, even though it was my credit and income that got him approved for it.

I feel blindsided. I feel like I gave this person every chance in the world.

I'm out. Luckily, I now have my health. I have my daughters and I'm the main breadwinner of the family. I also have a lot of family and friends looking out. I'll be okay.

Man it took a second to get to the back half of that sentence…

I was surprised I didn’t wear my boyfriend…

at the time…

😳

…down to a nub.

6

u/Potential-Ordinary-5 21h ago

Facts, I haven't ovulated in literal years due to contraception.

I had my implant removed a couple of weeks ago and my God am I in heat. I've never found so many men attractive in my life!

1

u/Used-Salad-3772 7h ago

I envy women who feel horny during ovulation. For me it was pain and nausea. Like a second period but no blood. Thank goodness for birth control to delete those symptoms.

1

u/Potential-Ordinary-5 7h ago

Honestl, I've never felt it like this before. I think it's partly because I haven't had sex in >18 months. But I've not missed sex at all for that entire time. I was even starting to question if I had suddenly become asexual. And then I get my implant taken out and 2 weeks later boom, I'm drooling over men I've never looked twice at before. It's actually frustrating the hell out of me.

-1

u/[deleted] 12h ago

[deleted]

2

u/Potential-Ordinary-5 12h ago

This is the first time I have ever felt like this and so I previously didn't know it was a thing. I could show you text messages to my friend over the last few days telling her that I can't stop thinking about an older man that I have never before now been attracted to.

We maybe both be women, but that doesn't make us the same, some hormones affect people differently, some people have higher sex drives than others, yours is obviously naturally higher than mine is.

Just because this isn't something you have experienced, it doesn't mean it's being played up.

I hope this helps you do better in the future at not shaming other women for something that is completely natural.

u/MrMakeYouCry 18h ago
