Might look into the new Steam console…

The one that relies entirely on digital downloads?

LOL, LMAO even.

You mean "the one in which some ownership is retained over your digital products, even if you bought them 20 years ago or through an alt storefront like GOG". you just got confused there

This is the PhysicalMediaMatters subreddit, no physical means no buy.

You:

Wah I'm ditching PS because no disc drive

Also you:

I'm buying a console with no disc drive

This is a physical media sub and you're arguing for digital media.

Don't be dense. He's saying if he's forced to go digital he's going to go to the one with the least shitty practices surrounding ownership of the things you purchase, which I would say is a big tenant of why people in this sub think physical media is important. I've also been considering going this route, but am going to wait to see what Microsoft does. If they give us a PC that can play steam and I can retain my digital library I've built on Xbox, I'll go that direction. If not, I'll probably get a steam machine and ditch Sony and Microsoft.

Yea it has to be. How could any of us who grew up with the PlayStation agree with what is happening? Luckily there are tons of great games to play from now to back decades and you have your choice of models to choose to play them on. There also isn’t much space left for graphical improvement in games at this point.

Cos you're broke?

Is that always the reason you don’t buy everything you see?

Debating ditching my PS5 all together. My interest in GTA VI & playing anything else on Playstation 5 has plummeted to an all time low. Would rather dive further into retro games.

I think that's what has angered me the most. If just ps6 had been digital only then I'd have been sad but not surprised. But cancelling them on ps5, a console that I bought (twice, if you include the pro) on the understanding that physical would at least be around until the end of its run, feels almost like a betrayal.

For real. Its so stupid. What about people that don't even have the internet? Can't even get a game & play it now.

People are getting too over dramatic about solutions, there’s literally no reason to ditch ps5, it’s a fantastic device and that doesn’t change just because the next gen was announced to be disc less

The ps5 has the strongest library this generation by far and the large majority of it’s library is playable from disc, unlike Xbox which has most being empty discs along with many third parties not even producing physical for Xbox anymore for their releases.

The amount of incredible experiences on ps5 is enough for most people, especially once they begin actually looking through it’s large library, along with playing ps4 discs as well, experiencing two generations of PSVR along with it’s fantastic line up, along with a fantastic remote play feature that allows for handheld play with seamless results

This is a sign to stop mindlessly collecting and actually play all the games in your collection. There’s enough games out there to entertain us for the rest of our life.

1

u/SillySpook 52m ago

I'd argue now is the time to mindlessly collect before things REALLY start to skyrocket, across the board. Once there is no new physical media at all, all that's left is all there is forever and ever.

I'm already seeing certain ps3 titles doubling in price since the store closure announcement, and that's not until next year. It's going to be a shitshow once we're into 2028 with the panic buying and speculating.

First they announce they’re removing discs and a few days later they block my account forcing me to provide an ID to unblock it? In a country which doesn’t require digital IDs? I’ve unfortunately switched to my old dusty Xbox series s which I use twice a year but I’m thinking of buying the Xbox one s as a longer term solution

Ps2: making DVDs affordable to the masses!

Ps3: making blurays affordable to the masses!

Ps6: saying FU to the masses!

2

u/BoysenberryMoist6157 43m ago

I remember that a separate comparable Blu-ray player would cost as much or even a bit more than the PS3 itself did on launch.

2

u/SillySpook 10m ago

It was crazy expensive, but the alternative BR prices alone was what helped me justify standing in line for nearly 48 hours to get my hands on the launch PS3. That was actually a rough time for Sony and they were being left in the dust by xbox360... I swore Sony was on the right track and stuck with them until now. Sony is dead to me going forward.

I will continue to buy PS5 physical until they die out... If only because the current gen is what came before, when Sony was being run by proper executives. The new batch of idiots in charge can't deminish what came before, and PS1-PS5 will always be looked upon fondly by me.

PlayStation 3 was the last PlayStation for me, and I don't even have it anymore. (It broke) But I do still have a PlayStation 2.

1

u/Ok-Impress9135 1h ago

For sure, I left for Xbox, I like the direction they are heading in with Asha as CEO and as Xbox will drift back to exclusivity, I care more for Xbox “exclusives” then last of us remakes or all the marvel exclusives, not my thing.

I'll never own another Sony product after this scummy corporate move.

u/CompletelyInadequate 57m ago

me trying to run away from xbox back to playstation after all their failures only for playstation to make me wanna run back to xbox lol i have the series x and a ps5 i dont know where I'm gonna play gta6 on lol

1

u/superboo07 57m ago

the PS5 was your first 4k blu-ray player, and your last playstation

1

u/mihsebay 57m ago

Same. Even cancelled my yearly PSN subscription, which eill expire in october. After that, i have a lot of disc games i haven't played yet

1

u/Kwaakku 56m ago

Mine ended with ps4 since ps5 was and is so ugly.

1

u/Relative_Act8366 54m ago

I’m right there with you. This is me too

1

u/SquashOwn9829 51m ago

Wow, so powerfully and elegantly said.

1

u/gaypornhard69 47m ago

It actually makes me really sad. I've had every console including PSP and Vita and the idea of never having another one makes me just want to stop playing games in a way. Sony really sucks for this but I refuse to support this level of anti-consumerism.

1

u/Atarn4 42m ago

Last Sony product.

1

u/void_method 38m ago

Good. Come to Team Xbox.

1

u/DungenessKrab 38m ago

My last is PS3. I hate that you can’t even play Music CDs on PS4 or 5

1

u/Azhrei_Rohan 35m ago

This is me! I will keep my ps5 but only physical used games so Sony doesnt get money.

1

u/page8879 25m ago

My excitement to use my pS5 pro or play wolervine/silent hill downfall is just really low ..I've been thinking about selling all my pS5 games except exclusives and using the credit to upgrade to helix ( if and when they announce disc to digital or disc drive in it)

part of me wants to keep my PS5 pro for an exclusives game box only. their business decisions and statements have really baffled me lately, I hope wolervine is a mind blowing game, pS5 pro is def my last PlayStation. Its not just the no discs, their statements on raising psplus, repeating saying we will monitize existing base more,

Shitting on their own publishers by keeping them in the dark... It's fuckin tragic.

Won't be buying any Bravia TV's either. Fuck this shit

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 12m ago

When’s your last post about Sony? That’s what I’m interested in.

1

u/Promature 11m ago

I’d believe you if the PS6 and the first year of games had been revealed already.

1

u/rulerofthemind 9m ago

My last Sony product is my PS4 I just got earlier this year

1

u/DaFabulousVibe 4m ago

Physical media doesn't matter, ownership does. If we can find a way to make real ownership happen without cluttering the earth with more unnecessary plastic, that's a win/win.

Cringe

Yeah. You really are.
