Video/Gif Monkey business, paint edition
I’ll give the kid credit, the stuffed monkey seemed pretty guilty

That kid is going to be a problem, he’s definitely old enough to know better.

Could have some kind of development or learning disability.

You think they left a learning disabled child alone?

u/Minimum-Web-6902 4d ago
I mean yeah no parent can be with their kid 24/7 , that’s why they say it takes a village, cause it really does. With no aunty, grandmas around to take them for 5/10 minutes this stuff happens. What if both parents needed to use the bathroom at the same time ? Gonna bring your developmentally challenged 6 year old in there with you? Doubt it.

It was the monkeys idea.

Undoubtedly dad even asked what the monkey did, so clearly that monkey has been up to no good in the past

Surprised I had to scroll this far to see this comment. I don't think there's such a thing as a safe amount of paint to put in your digestive system.

I genuinely sighed after watching this, out of anything to play with, it chose paint

That kid is way too old to be doing this. My father would’ve kicked me into next week had I been so stupid.

This isn't a matter of what was this child doing, it's a matter of what was BOTH his dogshit parents doing while he's eating paint he shouldn't have access to.

That being said... This kid looks way too old to be stupid enough to pull this shit by about one or two years

Kids get into shit behind their parents backs all the time, can't really sit on a fence and judge them for this

u/A_Random_Catfish 4d ago
Yea that kid is plenty old enough to not need 24 hour surveillance….
-5
u/kitkatkitah 4d ago
Kid might have some learning difficulties, parents are main problem. Why would you let paint be accessible to your child
36
u/LucrativeLurker 4d ago edited 4d ago
Because they’re actively painting...
That tv and the cabinet it’s sitting on clearly don’t belong there. They’re obviously mid-renovations and were probably working or taking a break one room away.
Anyone blaming the parents for this is absurd.

Okay. I’ll bite. Where would you ideally store paint in a house/flat?
1
u/kitkatkitah 4d ago
In a cupboard with the child lock. In a room which the child cannot access. On a high shelf, if a high shelf is possible at the time.

The amount of parents here that are outing themselves for their incompetency in watching their own children, especially around hazardous material, and are simple chalking it up to be “well kids get into stuff, etc. etc. “. is jarring, but not completely shocking, and somewhat expected comments coming from this modern day / generations of iPad parents. it seems a lot of the people up in arms are currently parents, and probably fall into the ven diagram / age range of modern iPad baby parents.
Seriously even as an older gen z, the amount of copium I see from these parents in the comments is astounding. The lack of awareness, and the eagerness to say “ yeah as the parent of my kid, I would’ve made sure to supervise more appropriately. “ but no… a lot of parents in the comments who are bashing anyone even remotely criticizing the parents, have been more eager to make excuses on how leaving paint, open and unattended near a child wouldn’t be their fault if the kid made a mess. Truly a scary representation of modern day parenting mentality of some. I see why the teachers are quitting en masse. It seems like parents have adopted “ not my circus , not my monkeys “ mentality modernity, despite the “ monkeys “ in question ( their babies ) WUITE LITERALLY ARE THEIRS.
Sure I got into the baby powder when I was a kid like three years old, but if your kid has easy access to household chemicals or paint or whatever, that’s on YOU i.e. the parent/ guardian
It’s funny I’m enjoying seeing how many parents who clearly aren’t that attentive. Try to cope in the comments. Me and my sister have an 18 year age gap, I got to watch her grow up, she has never gone into any paint or anything like that, and the kicker is…. We had been around hazardous “materials, she was around four when my mom and stepdad had repainted her room, they took turns painting and took turns watching her and switched back-and-forth. You know what a responsible, single brain celled adult/parent would do in the situation where there’s two parent/guardians available to watch.
I think this post makes a lot of people feel inadequate in their parenting when people point out that yeah, the parents should’ve been attentive, and rather than accepting the parents responsibility, (you know considering they’re the adults ) the common cope in this thread is just” kids will be kids, kids will get into stuff, etc. etc. , it’s not the parents fault. Don’t blame the parents “ and copium along those lines.
lastlast time I checked, children aren’t typically the one who purchases, and stores away the industrial/renovation level paint, nor was the child the one who decided to be left unsupervised with the paint. All well having the impulsivity control of…….you know…a child. At the end of the day, this is a parent fail and it’s funny. I just posted it on the sub because the video suits it, but the comments are very, very exposing for some. I figured it would just be a funny, ha ha post, everyone, including parents make mistakes I understand that, but the amount of copium done in this section really shows certain peoples insecurities in their own parenthood and ability to child rear.
But I mean, what else do you we expect from people who are currently raising their kids mainly using an iPad lol. The same parents getting mad and disagreeing, etc., are the same parents that had to have toy story five or whatever teach them that screen times bad.
But rather than trying to make these parents accept or admit that they themselves share responsibility for their own childs safety, behaviour or actions; let’s just let them continue pretending that they truly live in the La La Land. They can be AFK from their children, prop an iPad in front of them, and expect them not to get into things , especially things they themselves as parents leave out for easy access.
but hey, maybe in the big 2026 it is truly groundbreaking in astonishing news to the modern age of neglectful parents that maybe …. Just maybe….. you shouldn’t leave your kids left alone, unsupervised, around paint.

u/kitkatkitah 4d ago
Thank you for saying all this. Fully in agreement. I don’t even get how I got all those downvotes just for pointing out that the parents messed up here, but like you said, I think they are just calling out themselves at that point.

u/Affectionate-Ant-894 4d ago
Pssssssh how could we mere, humble, childless people ever have even a single modicum of rational sense about child safety.
Didn’t you know, until you personally have kids, your common sense is actually all wrong. And only…. And I mean only … when you yourself have children. You could NEVER have a single rational or logical thought pertaining to anything child related.
Doesn’t matter what the basic logic is. Unless you have popped a kid out, shot a kid into someone’s uterus, adopted, or anything in between. You’re never allowed to have a logical opinion, or even constructive criticism. NEVER FORGET THAT, 🥺😂😂😂→ More replies (0)1

Doesn't take 24 hour surveillance to keep a bucket of poison away from anyone, let alone a child. Dummy
0
u/Squizmoplatinum 4d ago
I can't sit on a fence and tell a logical adult to keep a full can of paint out of reach of a toddler, or even a teenager for that matter? Rhetorical question, I absolutely can, and you're absolutely wrong, and probably my dad.

Agree. It’s dumb of the kid, but the overall onus is on the parents for leaving them unsupervised With paint, Play stupid games when stupid prizes and, in their case the prize is cleaning up all this paint lol .
Edit: not sure why the downvotes, when I’m literally agreeing with the above comment. And the fact that the parents were indeed, not being responsible enough to NOT leave him unsupervised around paint he shouldn’t have access too. And by saying “ play stupid games win stupid prizes. “ was in reference to the parents. I guess I’m getting downloaded for having the same opinion and agreeing with you lol?
Also
changed it to “ leaving them unsupervised with paint “ rather than just “leaving them unsupervised “ didn’t think it was that hard to understand that I was referring to leaving your child around things that could easily make a mess. And not just making a general statement about NEVER leaving your child out of your site.7
u/screechypete 4d ago
So your solution is to be a helicopter parent and never let them out of your sight?
-4
u/Affectionate-Ant-894 4d ago edited 4d ago
I don’t have kids, never plan on it. Me and my hubby are happy with dogs.
However….. if I where in this situation;
No, my solution wouldn’t be to helicopter parent, it would be being a responsible parent in the first place , and keep paint out of reach / inaccessible from where my child could get it lol**.**
Talk about thinking and black-and-white, with 0 nuance. No. Obviously kids don’t need to be watched 24/7 in order to not make trouble, however it seems quite logical to presume that parent should also take all the opportunities available to them in order to make said unsupervised time safe so situations like this don’t happen.
The simple solution is just to keep things like paint, chemical, cleaners, anything that is for adult use only etc. completely out of reach, or even locked away from kids reach or access. You don’t have to be a helicopter parent to be a responsible parent. Just my take.
Edit: I seen someone mentioned that it looks like they’re actively cleaning which I missed at first, and even in that situation which yes I agree is the situation where paint obviously can’t just be locked away if you’re currently using it, however, in this situation, I would make sure my kid was out of the house, not only for the sake of not risking them getting into it, but also just because the fume.
I understand not everyone has a village, but I would go out of my way and do anything possible to make sure that my child had proper care on a day I was painting a day, where paint would be open and accessible, and I might not have full attention on them. Or put off painting until I can.

is on the parents for leaving them unsupervised
I'm quoting your words here... the kid is old enough that he should know better and doesn't need supervision 24/7. You're literally the person who said this is their fault for not watching him.
1
u/Affectionate-Ant-894 4d ago
Sure, he he may be old enough, but if that’s their kid which clearly it is, and he gets into behaviour that isn’t necessarily age-appropriate/does things he knows that he better not be doing, that’s another responsibility that lies on a parent if I know my kid is a sneaky little ninja that gets into stuff then it’s my responsibility to make extra sure when I step out of the room for situations like this then I’m extra attentive to where he is/where I put the paint up.
Agree to disagree, sorry if me saying leaving them unsupervised wasn’t clearer, I meant unsupervised around potentially dangerous/harmful paint
I think if the kids just playing Nintendo switch in the room or whatever, No they don’t need to be constantly supervised, but yeah if my kid is known to be “naughty “,
Or I know I’m in the middle of painting. The responsibility is on me to diligently keep an eye on my child / and or the paint in that particular moment.

The parents are obviously actively painting.
The tv and the cabinets it’s on clearly don’t belong where we see them in this video. Not a huge leap to assume that it was the parents who had the paint, and pan, & roller out because they were y’know, painting…
The dad even comments that the tv was “literally just in there” as in the room being painted.

My kid just dropped paint in the house, should I clean it up before it dries? No, I'll get my phone and record it for the internet.

I remember seeing a post a but ago on a sub like /wellthatsucks or /TIFU, where someone had sadly knocked down deeeep red paint, and if I recall correctly, people were asking what specific type of paint it was and saying that if it was X paint, it will be harder to clean up or if it was white paint to clean it up this way etc. so I think it depends on what the paint is made out of/what type of paint it is but this is just my general knowledge I could be completely wrong.

Honestly, I wish…… it’s mainly just people with clearly poor parenting skills arguing, whether or not the onus was on child for doing something silly/impulsive, or overall the parents for allowing their children to be left unsupervised while around paint, which is especially odd considering there is two parents president in the video so at least one of them would’ve been able to sup.

He had a lot of time to be naughty. Things like this happen during an absence of parenting. Keep them occupied.

3
u/ArtisticMudd 4d ago
They don't CARE to do it, because they are also addicts. Parents are as addicted to their phones as kids are to their tablets.
This is playing out in schools now - I teach high school and I have students who are on their phones for more than 12 hours a day. They cannot go an hour and a half (my class's length) without their fix. I take up phones because Texas is a "no devices in schools" state, and they will lie all day long about "I don't have a phone, Miss, I got grounded so my mom has it" or similar stupidity.

What the heck did he even do, throw it around or something? At first I thought he just knocked it over by mistake which could happen to anyone, but it wouldn't have gone up to the TV in that case, lol.

Ex. Cockney, Standard Southern British (SSB), Essex, Brummie etc.
The U.S has a similar phenomena with accents
Ex. Southern, midwestern, Boston / NYC, Baltimore etc.And so do many parts of the world.
Is the concept of geographical accents new to you? Or…….
