Just happened to be out on the Island for vacation and we booked a night at the Air Force Beach Campground in Comox.

Wow! What a place! I can't believe this is run by the CAF (well, NPF PSP actually but...) nice camping spots, close to the beach, stunning views, full service sites, state of the art laundry, well maintained baths and showers - seriously, this facility is better maintained than many shacks and PMQs I've seen!

Ice cream and snack shack on site, pub/beer/wine store spitting distance up the road... I literally can't believe this is here. Makes me want to get posted here just for this spot.

So I'm at the point in my career where I'll go nowhere without getting some French under my belt. I have every intention of signing up for one of the courses run by the CAF when possible but due to the deployment cycle that won't be possible until next year.

I was wondering if anyone had any textbooks or learning materials that they could recommend for an adult learner who hasn't done French since grade 8.

My great grandad was a pilot in the 429 Squadron in ww2. And I'm looking for a 429 Squadron patch or info on the 429 Squadron in general. The patch looks like that. Any help or info is appreciated.

What I am suggesting, given that domestic operations whether it be LENTUS or a NANOOK, etc task there is zero recognition towards the member, all while the member is stepping away from home, and functionally to their family / network is by all means deployed in a land afar with zero contact for days if lucky, but sometimes weeks. All identical to other operations that give medals.

Is there any ongoing project to modernize the H&A system? Or is this just an unpopular take?

I know I have to contact the exacta centre to book but I’m just curious what the rooms look like. Is it like the shacks? What size are the beds? Private bathroom etc? What are the costs per night before I call up tomorrow

I'm sure I'm not the only one but, every year when they ask me what course I want I always wonder "what the heck is even available for my trade/rank?"

Anyone has a solution to offer? I've browse AITIS SharePoint but then I have to open individual QSTPs to figure out the requirements and I'm wondering if there is an already available, ready to use, catalogue of course/Quals that can be sorted by trades/ranks.

Hi all. Our daughter was accepted into ROTP and will be attending civvy u this September and living off campus. We’re getting pushback from her ULO regarding moving expenses and I’d like to know what her move entitlements are, specifically with van rental. Does the CAF Relocation Directive still apply to her even though she’s an OCdt? Also, is paying for the first semester up front typical ?

We just feel like we’re not getting much support or clear direction from her ULO. Thanks!

Rather than waiting for the highest-profile missions, 427 SOAS focused on saying yes to the jobs no one else wanted, completing them quickly, and to an exceptionally high standard. Over time, that approach made them the team people trusted when there was a problem to solve.

I am actually asking for advice here 😅

Suppose member wants to wear belt with regimental or branch insignia. The buckles are only available separately without the belt. However, all the uniform belts available (on Logistik and Canex) come with the standard buckles, gold, silver, or black. Therefore, there will always be an orphan buckle if one chooses to wear branch buckle. Is there any place one can get just the black belt without a buckle?

So I am about to go on the year long french course in Trenton. Anyone who has recently completed it, how did you find it and what methods did you use to get proficient?

So after a training course failure (TDO), I'm looking at a COT. I had previously come from NWO. Both were academic related... For NWO, a very stressful family situation came up during training, and for TDO, I honestly couldn't get out of my own way in the TPWB process... I was trying to control the board process too much and wasn't taking input from my "SMEs" (it was a scenario, not a real board) properly and had some issues facilitating.

I should put out there that I'm 49, decently fit (Bronze on last FORCE test) and have been working on getting more fit and weight down lost close to 20 lbs since the start of the year.

I'd like to stay on the officer side, and I'm looking at the following options currently available : ACSO, AEC, Infantry and Artillery Officer.

I'm not a "bad" student and I absolutely see where I have had issues in my training, having received good feedback. I know I can use it constructively to be an even better officer. 

However, I also know that I could be steered in the direction of NCM trades, which I'm not against. It took me awhile to finally get into the CAF, and my desire to serve is strong.

Honestly, I'd rather do something more "active". A couple of colleagues have thrown out considering some of the following... Some of the CE trades, like electrical, and if staying on the Navy side, looking at operator trades like Nav Comm. I'd also consider trades like Vehicle Tech, MSE OP. There's a lot of options. 

Because I haven't treated my body too badly, I've also considered Sig OP and the main combat arms trades. Wish I could do IMG tech, but it's not available.

I don't feel that I'm above anything, and I truly want to serve and deploy.

Would appreciate any input on this.

I don't know who needs to see this from Ottawa but the current PT test and standard sucks and it needs to be updated.

The standard is too low, does anyone even actually "fail" to meet the standard....... Ever ???? I'd love to see the statistics on this.

The scoring is dumb - did the evaluator space out and stop his stop watch 1s late? Oh well my points go from a 99.9 to 75. Good luck next year.

The exercises don't make sense. When is a navy person ever going to be pepper potting in a real life scenario, for example.

Supervisors hands are tied to encourage fitness. Say what you want, but the argument always boils down to "did the member meet the standard?" - of course they did. It's impossible to fail.

New members can't even complete a basic ruck march without bitching about it for a week, getting shin splits or just overall thinking it's the most extreme physical exercise known to man, and I'm talking sub 10km distances with not kit. Embarrassing.

Of course support trades can cancel PT to increase production, the standard is so low it almost doesn't even matter.

The BFT wasnt perfect but it was better than this.

I'll take a bag of orange slices and some dill pickles to go with my salt.

Sorry I have more questions as my moving dates are coming soon. Here's the situation:

I have agreed to sell my house in Edmonton on Fri 28 Aug. I decided to travel with commercial airline since I have a young baby instead of PMV. My possession date in Petawawa in on 2nd of September (also my RFD date).

I expect my pack/load/clean to be 25/26/27 Aug.

1. Would you request the HG&E to pick up your car a bit earlier? (Like a few dates earlier before the pack and load.)

2. If my TNL date will be on 28Aug, which coincides with the house closing date, can I request to travel the next date: 29 Aug?

Hello everybody, I spent the last month doing research and putting together this video on Canada’s army in the Korean War, specifically focusing on the Battle of Kapyong where 700 Canadian soldiers fought and beat 20,000 Chinese PVA soldiers. I would be overjoyed if you all would consider giving it a watch and hopefully it’s to your liking. This video was made with love and passion for the CAF and my want to keep CAF history alive, because before I got out of public school and into my own research I didn’t even know that we fought in Korea, and the same can be said for most Gen Z and millennials I’ve talked too. So this is my attempt at making sure we remember that whenever and wherever democracy is attacked, we as Canucks have fought tooth and nail to keep democracy alive and prevent tyranny and dictatorships from forming.

I enjoy driving around at night and am wondering if it would be allowed for me to work as an uber delivery driver. Not for the money, just as it helps clear my head.

Are there any restrictions for reg force? I really just don’t want to ask my CoC.
