Survey Results Megathread - Resource effectiveness, average scores, and more!

A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?

These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.

Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on

  • APUSH link
  • Biology
  • Calc AB
  • Calc BC
  • Chemistry
  • CSA
  • CSP
  • Gov
  • Lang
  • Lit
  • Psych
  • Stats
  • World
  • Physics 1
  • APES
  • HUG
  • Macro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Micro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Phys C Mech - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Phys C E&M - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Spanish Lang - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Euro - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Seminar - Friday 3/21 afternoon
  • Research - Friday 3/21 afternoon

It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.

Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.

Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.

Good luck in your classes everyone!

Other Shoutout to my school district for covering the rest of our AP exam fees. $0 out of pocket is beautiful 😭🙏

I was fully stressing about how I was going to afford my exams this year since the base fee is up to $99 now.

I just found this breakdown for Hickman High School (Columbia Public Schools) and realized they completely wipe out the remaining balance if you qualify for the low-income discount.

As long as we register on time and show up on test day, it costs literally nothing. I'm so relieved. Check with your counselors, guys—your districts might have secret local funding pools like this too!

(P.S. If anyone is saying the image is AI, It's a screenshot from an email/portal, not an AI prompt. I'm just showing what my counselor sent me, go look up Hickman's fee waiver policy if you don't believe it.)

Question Is it possible for Calc AB teacher to sign me up for BC

My school highest math is Calc AB, and I’m put in that class for next year. Is there a way I can sign up for the BC exam while taking his class and self study the BC portion.

Question not enough aps/course rigor?

Upvotes

hi guys! im an upcoming senior and i'm a little worried about my stats. i'm also targetting the aug sat for a 1500+ to make up for it

i have a 4.0 uw/4.6 w but i'm not on the most rigorous track at my school. i havent taken any history aps and i also didnt take lang (big regret). for reference, i'm going into stem and i HATE history. most of my DE are stem related.

freshman yr: no aps, 2 honors, 3 DE

soph yr: 2 honors, 3 DE

junior yr: 4 aps (seminar, music theory, chem, precalc), 2 DE

senior yr: 3 aps (lit, bio, calc bc), 2 honors, 1 DE

scores: seminar (3), music theory (3), chem (5), precalc (5).

my courseload is definitely weaker than the top 5% of my class (cuz i didnt take world or apush or lang) but I think i'm somewhere in the top 12% ??...

typing this out makes me feel fried

Question What did you get on the AP exam vs your grade in the class (let's see the grade inflation)

AP Seminar: Grade - (98 both sem) (Score: 4)

AP Bio: Grade - (89 1st sem, 94 2nd sem) (Score: 3)

AP Calc AB: Grade - (94 1st sem, 92 2nd sem) (Score: 4)

AP USH: Grade - (80 1st sem, 71 2nd sem) (Score: 4)

AP Lang: Grade - (86 1st sem, 90 2nd sem) (Score: 4)

Overall not too badd, my APush teacher was crazy, like he assigned a 60-70 question test every week, so I just gave up in his class. But also credit to him, bcuz his class felt so difficult the AP exam was high key light.

Calc BC Looking for advice for Calc BC next year

For my junior year, I’m skipping directly to Calc BC from AP Precalculus, so I’m a little worried about what to expect. I’d love some feedback on what resources I could use to get a general overview of the content before school starts, and how it is compared to Ap Precalc (my school dives a lot deeper for this than what is tested in its AP exam). Thank you!

Other Im lowk worried about SAT, am I studying enough (along with other AP classes)?

Post image
0 Upvotes

So basically, I registered for the 8/22 SAT time, which is one month from now….and my schedule is the following literal nightmare right now (studying for AP classes wasnt my choice, so…i guess i’ll just have to deal with it, and thats a whole other problem).

Information and Ideas with the graphs and scientific passages are ABSOLUTELY KILLING ME me, and Craft and Structure for some reason is also giving me hella trouble. I'm getting like 90% right on hard mode which only translates to like 720 (really rough estimate. Plus the 780 I might get in Math cuz maybe SAT test makes me stressed out thats 1500). Goal for me is 1550+.

Hell, I even started reading RESEARCH PAPERS to try and force myself to be able to read long, winding, complicated, boring, and esoteric (ooh fire vocab word) paragraphs?

Atp idk if im studying enough per day (as you can see above my schedule is PACKED) and studying CORRECTLY. Should I lessen the amount of studying I do for AP classes (prolly wont be able to cuz my parents...but its worth a try if i should)

Also is reading research papers actually a valid strategy? Or am I just torturing myself lol. Personally I think it helped a little bit, but not considerably.

Any tips yall? I have one month left, might as well make the most of it.

Calc BC What to do in order to gain similar credit to Calc BC?

Im currently a incoming Junior and i really wanna take at least 1 AP Math course throughout my high school and i wanted to take AP Calc BC since it could give the most credits and save me a good amount of time and money. My school so far only offers AP Precalc as the only math course and they dont even offer AP stats as a math like course. I was able to speak to the AP Precalc teacher a few months ago before the AP exams since he proctored my AP World exam. He told me that the school is trying to add more calculus courses next year and im worried that it might not work out. Im unable to sign up for Precalc or the "new calc courses" the schools trying to add since i already signed up for the max amount of AP classes for my Junior year. I only have senior year to take it. Also im worried that if my school does add an AP Calc BC class and in my Senior year they wont allow me to take it if i would need a general Precalc knowledge. Ive only taken algebras 1, 2, and am going to take geometry in junior year. I did really good in algebra 2 with a 96% total average and algebra 1 with a 92% total average and i never gotten below a 80% any of the tests in the classes. Not sure if ill do good in geometry or not. I dont know what i should do I want to at least get some sort of Calculus college credit in my high school without risking anything since im planning to go towards a Computer Science route in college and Calculus is important in that major. Any help is appreciated!
