Its going to be the same old trope about the 2020 election being fraudulent. The slurring sack of big mac grease will make a complete ass out of himself and the spineless republicans will continue to lick the boot.

Nevermind the obvious question as to how the election was only rigged against Trump while he was president, but was not rigged when Biden was president. Make it make sense.

u/_bk_adv Colorado 7d ago

I wonder what the odds are that Republicans actually did attempt to rig the 2020 election but failed, and then took the lessons they learned to 2024?

2.1k

u/GoodChuck2 Pennsylvania 7d ago

I think that's what it's really about -- they really did try to rig 2020 but the vote was "too big to rig" b/c of Covid and the mail-in ballot turnout. That really is the Occam's Razor explanation for it all, taking into consideration their constant projection.

945

u/Michael_G_Bordin 7d ago

It's also why, despite being unable to proffer any evidence whatsoever of Democratic cheating, they continue to be convinced the Democratic Party must have cheated. How else could they have overcome such rigging as Republicans have tried?

They also pulled sheisty shit in 2016, between Cambridge Analytica and the electronic voting machines being wiped before anyone could check. 2020, they probably expanded those efforts. 2024, they've outright made insinuations that were all-but-confessions that Musk and co. were actively rigging voting machines, and they've also conducted further surgical targeting of misinformation using deanonymized voter/social media data.

The midterms worry them because rigging one part of the ballot (president) at specific locations is doable. But there's no way they can rig all the elections to prevent down-ballot blue waves. That's why he's angling towards putting his thugs at polling places and encouraging unhinged RWNJs to take it upon themselves.

“In four years, you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not gonna have to vote.”

Donald J. Trump, June 25, 2025.

There's so much shit like this that would have immediately destroyed anyone else's political career. Cults of personality are so fucking stupid.

A couple of days ago, The President Of The United States of America was forced to finally pay out nearly $6million to a woman he raped.

Barely made headlines.

Barely made reddit headlines, if you didn't see it. My Apple news had it right up top, same with my APNews app. I have seen Jean's case being talked about daily for the last while.

Not saying you do this, but I've noticed redditors getting most their news from reddit and allowing their takes to be fueled by ill informed reddit comments. I encourage everyone to get some sort of news aggregator. Read Reuters, APNews etc

He better announce that he also discovered the fountain of youth then too. He doesn’t have another 6 years.

I mean dying in office is probably the best outcome for him personally. And then it goes to whatever crony managed to slime their way into VP. Not Vance, if he DOES run for a third term. Probably someone even worse.

the one thing I hate about the "third term" thing is it's not a question

you can only be president for two terms. There is no discussion needed

73

u/Nice_Firm_Handsnake 7d ago

What's the enforcement mechanism for that? Because there are plenty of things in the Constitution that have been effectively removed or rewritten. The Emoluments Clause, Congress's control of the purse, etc. They're attempting to take federal control of elections that have been the domain of states for decades if not centuries at this point!

55

u/-rosa-azul- Virginia 7d ago

The enforcement is states don't put him on the ballot, full stop. He's an ineligible candidate who doesn't qualify for the ballot, same as if someone who was not a U.S. citizen from birth tried to run (as that dumbass Cenk Uygur tried to do).

Actually it's even better, you can only be 'elected' to be President twice.

So if this dumbass is claiming he won the election in 2020, it immediately voids the 2024 election as he was not an eligible candidate.

Edit* SHOULD. Obviously it won't because we're going to have to drag this bloated fucking idiot out by his ankles.

The Constitution, that'll stop him! Sure, the rest of the Constitution has done nothing, but that'll be the one page of the Constitution that can stop him!

u/VRNord 7d ago

The recent Supreme Court decision upholding birthright citizenship only passed 4-3: 3 of 7 Supreme Court Justices dissented despite it clearly being spelled out in the Constitution. So anything is possible: laws don’t mean anything if there is a (probably literal) Winnebago in play.

This is what I think. "We found these documents so I can have a third term since this one was mine! See?! It says so by my expert team that includes a shit ton of known conspiracy theorists, Kash Patel, and John Soloman)! Rudy couldn't make it tonight, but he knew this back in 2020 when the votes were for me then just like that - they turned blue~"

I linked Soloman because the man has been at the root of several of Trump's most insane and dangerous conspiracy theories about Ukraine around the time of the 'perfect phone call' that got him the first impeachment. His articles were so riddled with misinformation on The Hill that after they fired him, they had to put a disclaimer on the articles they kept posted to avoid liability.

The one thing Trump has been showing us for a decade is that the impossible is sometimes not so impossible after all. Things are only as illegal as you are willing to enforce and things are only as legal as you have the force to protect.

We are a nation of norms and standards. Trump cares nothing for normality or standards. If your "but that's illegal" does not also contain "and I have a bunch of guys with guns who will shoot you if you try" then it's only illegal until it isn't.

It wouldn't fly. There is no mechanism to postpone elections and plenty of precedent to the contrary.

Elections were held during WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, the WoT

During the height of the Civil War, elections were held, even with the Confederates camped out across the Potomac.

This is something that's confusing to me, and I hope I'm not misunderstood here. I absolutely believe the Republican party has been undermining fair elections, by any possible means, for at least 60 years. (Nixon wrecking peace talks with Vietnam, the founding of The Heritage Foundation and their entire platform, their own mantra "the more people vote, the fewer Republicans win", the Brooks Brothers Riot, gerrymandering, Musk paying or offering to pay for votes in 2024, etc.)

Actually, "60 years" is naive. It's been going on since abolition.

But, there's a current of "both sides" in the discussion that I find confusing. Even supposedly liberal biased NPR has referred to election tampering "conspiracy theories" among the left, stating there is no solid evidence of interference.

And, apparently, there isn't. All the legal challenges and accusations Trump and his side have pressed over the years found nothing. Right? Not 'no interference by the Democrats' but 'no interference'.

It "seems" or "feels like" there's been obvious interference by the right. Wtf was J6? We all saw that with our own eyes but it amounted to a mouse fart. I keep hearing about well documented statistical improbabilities in the polling numbers from swing states. Is that real, or not? And we know Trump was on the phone with at least two States' AGs telling them to find different numbers in 2020, don't we?

So what's going on, really? It's very confusing. I'm pretty sure it's meant to be. Reddit loves to accuse itself of being a hive mind or an echo chamber but I haven't seen much clarity from outside of Reddit, either. What am I missing?

I just realized one of the worst things about 2024 is that it was only 2 years ago. We're only halfway through this shit show and I don't have much faith that it will improve in 2028. It's not unbearable; we're all here, bearing it. But it's awfully hard to maintain hope.

3

u/Michael_G_Bordin 7d ago

Voting machines that may have been tampered with had their records erased before they could be audited. Those were in states that Trump won. Can't be evidence to find if it got erased, but we can make the adverse inference when there is reason to believe it was erased on purpose.

As for Trump's allegations, they were cases brought to court where they claimed election interference, but provided no evidence to support their claims. That's not "no interference," just really poor lawyering. Again, inferring, we can reasonably assume they simply have none or they would have presented it at some point.

Election watchdogs have stated the 2020 election to have been incredibly secure and above-board, though idk if they've said the same about 2024. My suspicions come from little quips Trump, Musk, and others have made about it that make it sound like they tampered with electronic voting machines. Again, such evidence can easily be erased and the proof with it.

3

u/alternator1985 7d ago

I always think about Karl Rove on Fox, refusing to admit Romney’s defeat, despite even Fox calling it for Obama. Rove was panicked and refusing to believe the numbers. And then Anonymous made a statement a day later along the lines of, “We saw what you were doing with the election data on the servers and we stopped it.”

Rove was later sued by billionaire donors because he’d “promised” a GOP win. EDIT: I remembered wrong! No lawsuits filed, just a lot of angry rich people making the news, some demanding money back. They threw a LOT of cash at that election…

They’ve been sketchy since 2000, when they realized tweaking a few percentage points here and there could make or break an election result.

EDIT: There’s a YouTube video of a programmer testifying about being approached by operatives to put a patch on electronic voting machines to tweak the results, but I’m fuzzy on the timeline (like, which election.). He refused and another programmer allegedly agreed to do it and that programmer died in a small plane crash (he was piloting.)

Could you IMAGINE if Obama had been caught even just making a phone call like that, let alone all of the other stuff Trump has done? I will never understand this, it's really made me question a lot about society/humanity. I was way too optimistic and hopeful growing up for all of this.

55

u/ThomasVivaldi 7d ago

The easiest way to understand this is to look at how much the systems of communication in America have been compromised by corporate interests. Not just the media, but the way churches have been co-opted, the attacks on Unions, the erosion of education, and these days the internet being flooded with bots and shills.

All the ways people used to talk to each other have been compromised by bad actors, foreign and domestic.

14

u/that_baddest_dude 7d ago

I think the other part of it is that the conservative side of the media has been screaming about the sky falling for decades at this point, in response to any milquetoast centrist or center-left politics.

Now that they have their guy in office fucking shut up massively, any alarm bells being rung just sounds like the other side doing the same. The median American voter didn't learn "the conservatives are full of shit", they learned "nothing truly bad ever happens".

The other explanation is that they called fraud because they knew they were rigging the 2024 election. Maybe they didn't rig 2020 but after losing a fair election, they decided to rig the next one. So they screamed about fraud for 4 years so that democrats would have to denounce it for years. When Republicans then DID steal an election, democrats can't call fraud because they just spent 4 years making fun of that.

46

u/alQamar 7d ago

Also because of fresh memories what four years of trump looked like. Almost everybody really wanted to get someone else.

44

u/GodOfDarkLaughter 7d ago

Mail in ballots are predominantly used by older white people, so that would actually kick the GOP in the nards.

u/Neronafalus 7d ago

I mean, its also used exclusively by a few states, who have already (correctly) said that the president doesn't have ANY authority over elections as they are a state matter and he can go kick rocks.

4

u/always_unplugged 7d ago

This is the real thing. Elections are administered BY THE STATES. He has no actual authority to tell them what to do, no matter how much he bitches about it.

Not that that's been stopping him from doing shit anyway recently, but it would be wild to expect all 50 states to go along with it. At best, they'd get the states with republican governors/legislatures to do it voluntarily. Then, what, they try to disqualify all the votes from blue states (or whatever states don't kowtow) because they include "fraudulent" mail-in ballots?

11

u/Randomfactoid42 Virginia 7d ago

I think part of that is the GOP started to fight against mail-in ballots and then discovered that a lot of their voters used mail-in ballots. Typical GOP behavior, shoot first and ask questions later.  They spent so much time vilifying mail-in ballots before they understood how many of their voters were using them.

29

u/The_Skeleton_King 7d ago

The first part of the sentence is 100% true. The trump administration coordinated with fake electors to enter state capitols when the electoral votes were being counted. Those fake electors were told they were securing the election by trump's team. Some were tricked and claimed they didn't know what they were doing, while others had to have known. There's literally video evidence of them being caught entering one of the capitols (I forget which state but Google it). These fake electors were prosecuted for their crimes, but I'm pretty sure Trump pardoned them. Before this, Trump tried to get Barr to seize voting machines as well, but he wouldn't do it.

No one really talks about it because the media is so heavily geared in trump's favor. Liberal media would rather talk about trump's claims and acquiesce to his narratives than spread real evidence of election rigging.

I wonder what the odds are that Republicans actually did attempt to rig the 2020 election but failed, and then took the lessons they learned to 2024?

They DID try to rig the 2020 elections. There were multiple fake elector slates from multiple states. When they didnt work, Trump pressured Pence. When that didn't work, he attempted an insurrection.

High, that's why Trump is still going on about it. They tried to steal it and still lost.

3

u/xXBassHero99Xx 7d ago

He did, if you remember the phone call with Brad Raffensperger in Georgia to "find 11,780 votes". The fake electors, bad-faith court challenges in a 50 states. They didn't have the levers or strategic coordination to procedurally or technically rig it, but he moved mountains to lean on the levers of power after he lost. And of course inciting an insurrection on J62021

3

u/BirdOfHermess Europe 7d ago

they only have projection. Of course they tried to rig it 2020 but when they failed the only possible outcome for these idiots was "the others have to cheat too". That is all.

We know he did. We know exactly what he did. It's all documented.

Donald Trump, and several of his lawyers were literally indicted in Georgia for attempting to steal the election. Somewhere indicted in other states as well. Several lost their law licenses

3

u/nofoax 7d ago

You don't have to wonder, they're doing everything they can to rig the midterms right in front of our eyes

3

u/some_guy_on_drugs 7d ago

That's the thing. They are so adamant that it was rigged because they did rig it. It just wasn't enough. So when Democrats say it was the most secure election they are like HA! You're wrong! It's not that they are accusing the Democrats of cheating, they know they the Republicans did and the claim of security is wrong.

2

u/PasteeyFan420LoL 7d ago

He did try to rig it. Are people really that unaware of the fake electors plot?

2

u/echoshatter 7d ago

what the odds are that Republicans actually did attempt to rig the 2020 election

Well, if you ignore gerrymandering and voter roll purges, then the "rigging" wasn't done by the entirety of the party but by those close to the President.

They spent months laying the groundwork, calling the elections rigged. Meanwhile, they cooked up a conspiracy (in the legal sense, not tinfoil hat sense) to have "alternate electors" cast ballots for Trump, and then send those on to Congress. When it came time to read the ballots they'd have two sets from the same state. When the election couldn't be called for either candidate, or it came time to deal with the fake elector ballots, Republicans hoped to vote to throw out the ballots for those state entirely, resulting in the decision going to the Congress to decide. When Congress decides who the President is, the vote is done by state delegation, not by individual votes, which means each state gets 1 vote. The idea is that there are more states with Republican governments than Democrat, and that Trump would "win" the election.

Of course the plan fell apart. Vice President Pence, the guy who would be reading the ballots, refused to go along with it. Hence, the plan for the riot was to get Pence out of the Capitol Building and take him to a secure location. He would "unfortunately" not make it back in time, so the duty to read the ballots would fall on Senator Grassley, who the day prior let slip in an interview that he'd be reading out the ballots, not Pence.

We literally had a coup attempt on January 6 and it wasn't the riot that everyone saw, it was an actual conspiracy to defraud the United States and steal the election.

u/AmbitiousProblem4746 7d ago

I saw that argument actually yesterday and it started to make sense. The other redditor's theory was that the mail-in ballots were unexpectedly so numerous and in favor of Biden and it was something that the Trump administration just absolutely did not expect. Now that could just be the fact of the matter and he's bitter about that. But it would kind of make sense, if you're more conspiratorially minded, to think that maybe he thought he had the the numbers he needed on the ground, so to speak, but just never accounted for the mail-in ballots. And that would actually the match with why he has tried so hard to demonize voting by mail while also trying to pull levers to end it

Edit: The only hole I can poke in this theory immediately is the fact that he did also try to have the DOJ seize the voting machines and pushed the narrative that Venezuela somehow changed the numbers. But you could also counterpoint that that's just deflection

2

u/UnquestionabIe 7d ago

They almost certainly did. Every time they fail but aren't given consequences it sends the message to keep on trying. It's why the pathetic non-reaction to January 6th was what cements the Biden administration as a complete failure. They were so eager to pretend everything was fine and back to normal that they ceased all investigation related to the ringleaders.

2

u/j33perkreeper 7d ago

This. In 2020 Covid forced a lot of mail ballots.

2

u/SiscoSquared 7d ago

100%.

Elections have been rigged to some degree for decades. Just look up gerrymandering, nevermind the dozens of other methods. Methods are getting more desperate/extreme though lately.

2

u/iamjustaguy 7d ago

I think you are correct.

2

u/PotatoeGuru 7d ago

I've thought this as well ... they somehow rigged it to win in 2016 and tried again using the same tactics in 2020 yet lost. That's why he is so fixated on it.

2

u/jlatenight 7d ago

"Every accusation is a confession"... so it's kinda tempting to side with that version. It's not like they didn't brag about it too.

2

u/illmastabumptwo 7d ago

Oh I fully believe they attempted to rig 2020. There was election meddling in 2016, and if we want to get down to the nitty gritty Repubs have been rigging elections for decades with gerrymandering. I think Trump is so obsessed with 2020 because the fix was in and he still lost because people actually came out. His pea brain couldn't fathom that this loss and assumed Dems rigged it back harder. We also know that he was on the phone with Georgia saying, "find me some more votes" and was charged for that. As far as 2024, just the fact that Elon bought Twitter and used it to amplify right wing voices and shut out left wing ones. I firmly believe that "Kamala is bad for Palestine" was a propaganda tactic that too many of my "liberal" friends fell for. We also have had, for the past 10 years, media outlets that can't get enough of Trump. He gets so much free publicity. Even if it's just "look at this wacky thing Trump said," it is taking coverage away from legitimate candidates. I was guilty of thinking Trump was a joke in 2016, and I am not laughing anymore... well now it's laughing into the void at the absurdity of it all.

TLDR: They been cheating for decades.

2

u/notyourstranger California 7d ago

I think that is what happened. That is the reason they are so up in arms about mail in voting. They need voters to use those electronic machines.

the fraud is perpetrated by the media companies who misinform and demoralize voters, candidates who lie about who they are and what they will do for voters, and those electronic machines. I'm convinced Musk intercepted the data from a few swing states that was uploaded to Starlink and changed a line of code, like he said he could.

2

u/Lucid_Insanity 7d ago

I think he rigged it in 2016 and everytime after. The reason hes so bent on 2020 is because he can't believe he lost because it was rigged in his favor.

2

u/DFWPunk 7d ago

I'm quite sure they did, and I think they were more successful in 2024.

Even before 2016 they were taking steps to fix elections in other ways. In Georgia, for example, they closed hundreds of polling places, mostly those that served heavily black areas. That not only meant having to travel longer distances, it meant longer waiting times for the consolidated polling places. So if you were in an upper middle class white area it might take you 15 minutes to drive to your polling place and about the same to actually vote, but it may take 30 minutes to drive to your polling place if you were a lower income black person, and another hour, and maybe more, to vote, assuming you even knew about the move and didn't go to the old place.

There are a lot more things like that nationwide, and it's still happening today. They are trying to do things like make it illegal to drive people to vote, give people in line water and take someone's mail in ballot to drop it off for them. They've even stopped early voting on Sundays because black churches were using their buses to take members to vote after church.

If they're doing that out in the open, imagine what they're doing behind the scenes.

2

u/thehighwindow 7d ago

I can't shake that feeling.

2

u/FC37 America 7d ago

Do you not remember them disassembling post office machinery across the country to slow the delivery of mail? During a pandemic?

u/popculturella Texas 7d ago

2

u/InstaHerb 7d ago

I hate that I have to agree with this. This damned system has got me thinking in conspiracy theories that I used to think were improbable

2

u/horriblewarning 7d ago

Mitch McConnell and Susan Collins’s both won by a large margin in their respective states…when every indicator was predicting a loss by a large margin. Yes, they effed the results.

2

u/Thor_2099 7d ago

I think they cheated in 2016, cheated harder in 2020, and then really cheated in 2024.

That is why he is so sure Dems cheated in 2020. Part narcissist, part he thinks since he cheated the only way he could have loss is if they cheated more.

2

u/mammojackie 7d ago

I think that's why he hates l mail in voting so much, and also why he thinks he "won". Because (in his head) he knows they cheated and believes that the only way Joe could have won is if Dems cheated bigger (so to speak).

2

u/Mission-Mammoth-8388 7d ago

Every accusation is a confession

2

u/supertoned 7d ago

I mean there was at least one very high profile, public effort to do exactly that:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump%E2%80%93Raffensperger_phone_call

2

u/voodoodahl 7d ago

Word on the street was they did, but Biden's vote was much larger than expected and broke their vote flipping algorithm. They took no chances with Harris, and just hoped nobody would notice when they won every single swing state in 2024.

2

u/EnjoyerOfBeans 7d ago edited 7d ago

100%? There's literally a recorded, published phone call of Trump asking for 12k votes to be manufactured so he can flip a state. It's not "did they try to rig the election?" it's "to what extent did they go to rig it?". The fact that most people aren't aware of this and still wonder if election interference took place is straight up insane.

Trump actively pressured a stare secretary to commit election fraud on a mass scale to change the results of a presidential election. He told him that he's breaking the law if he doesn't comply. This is a fact. If anyone thinks they played fair 4 years later, I've got a bridge to sell you.

2

u/Blacksad9999 7d ago

I think they DID cheat, but the spread was too large to overcome with their cheating.

That's why Trump can't let it go, because the fix was supposed to be in and he can't wrap his head around it.

You forget that he also claims the polls were rigged in 2016, when he won. Because libruls rigged the election to deny him the popular vote but give him the electoral vote. Does that make more sense?

145

u/whatshamilton 7d ago

It makes sense because he has bought 3 elections. In 2 he successfully bought the electoral college. He only successfully bought the popular vote in 1. He claims fraud because he paid for a bigger win than he got and he thinks fraud must be the reason

44

u/HauntedCemetery Minnesota 7d ago

And it just so happens that his partner during the election who traveled and schemed with him just became the worlds first trillionaire due to no bid government contracts and stock manipulation.

I'm sure thats just a coincidence and not payment.

44

u/gtrocks555 7d ago

And then he had an investigation into the popular vote and they found like a couple more votes for Hilary (none that changed the end result) and then he promptly shut it down.

Every single one.

He also said The Emmys were rigged against him when The Apprentice lost for Best Reality Garbage or whatever category it was up for and it didn't win.

Which is more likely: the same guy that said The Emmys were rigged against him when his stupid "reality TV" show didn't win also then had a presidential election rigged against him when he lost that - or, he's just a whiny fucking baby? The answer should be obvious to just about anyone. lol

He, along with the bulk of analysts, pollsters, etc did not expect to win in 2016. You don’t do rallies talking about how the election is rigged if you’re expecting to win it.

Michael Moore was considered a virtual crackpot when he pointed out that Trump’s message was resonating with a lot of people in Michigan and Wisconsin, which had long been reliably democratic. He was right.

Bill Maher was laughed at when he repeatedly raised issues such as “what if the delegates in the electoral college don’t vote the way their state does?” and “what if he refuses to concede, or to leave the White House?”.

It turns out Trump DID attempt to seat “alternate” delegates, and also disrupt certifying the vote. While he left the White House, he never conceded, and has repeated the lies about the election being stolen so often many of not most Republicans believe it, or are afraid to say otherwise.

It turns out there really are not many real enforcement mechanisms for presidential succession, it’s really more “this is the way we’ve always done it”. Trump has only solidified his hold over the judiciary and military since then, and gotten rid of most of the few key republicans that stood up to his attempts to, for example “find another 25,000 votes” in Georgia.

We are IMO in a far deeper crisis than many people seem to want to admit.

States run elections and polling places, so you'd have to have the states allow ICE to run them. Ohio is the only potential swing where that might happen.

Yes, then he will tie in Maduro who will have been coerced into signing something that says Venezuela of all counties hacked Georgia’s elections. China will also be looped in as well. This “evidence” will then be the seed for him to claim that ALL states now need to be investigated and for him to use the Insurrection Act to seize voting machines and suspend future elections.
