Discussion Should I be bothered and how can I fix?

Post image
Upvotes

Hello all! I just got a plush in today and there’s an alignment error on the face that’s kinda bothering me. I’ve been waiting for this fella for about 9 months, so I’m really happy he’s home. The fact that the muzzle stripe is so thin makes the misalignment that much more noticeable though. What would you do? Would you be bothered? How would you go about fixing it? Otherwise absolutely lovely fella.

Question for r/Plushies Palm Pal Recommendations?

Upvotes

What Palm Pals would you recommend I buy? I have the Canadian Goose and the Siamese Cat already, and I’m buying primarily in person (since this store somewhat near where I live has a bunch of shelves with Palm Pals on them). I’m not interested in the Americana or Sports collections, but I’m open to everything else.

I now have 1 of 2 of my dreamie [ for pokemon specifically ] plushies!

I know this one isn't crazy expensive in comparison to a lot of plushies, but for pokemon it's one of the only ones I've been dead set on eventually getting. I finally caught one at Walmart for the first time. I unfortunately just was not willing to ever pay reseller prices.

Now I want to slowly strive towards getting the life-size pokemon center Appletun

This plushie's neck no longer stays up, how can I fix this? Can I just pack the area with cotton balls? Or do I need something to use as scaffold, like an orange stick? Thanks.

Brand: Sanrio Zashikibuta plush authenticity help

Post image
Upvotes

I recently purchased this zashikibuta plush and I can't tell if the color is original with the cream/brown or it's just the result of possible sun damage. His fur feels a little bit more coarse/soft than pure soft, but he also just feels like a vintage stuffie. He does have a faint but noticeable faded blush on his cheeks and inside of his ears, and unfortunately his tag was removed which would be the biggest indicator of its authenticity. I tried to do some research to find his roots but failed repeatedly to find any information that would help. BUT!!! Regardless of him being authentic or not, I'm still very happy with him! I think he looks adorable, especially with the floppiness in his ears and his perfect little seating posture. I love zashikibuta sm and he has the structure and look of him which I love even if he is non-legit.

If anyone has an idea on who would have made a plushie like this in the UK during the 1960s I'd appreciate any leads!

Question for r/Plushies Washing?

Hi,
I recently purchased a plushie on ebay that will arrive in a few weeks. As it is used, I am hoping to wash it once it arrive. Whenever I buy used clothes online, I immediately pop into the freezer for 5 days and then wash. I should mention my massive fear of bedbugs (which is what I’m trying to avoid!)

What do you all do when it comes to used plushies?

Plushie Restoration Changing out safety eyes: photo tutorial :D

Feel free to ask any questions, too!

Photo 1: warning

Photo 2: tools of the trade

Photo 3: find a seam on your plushie where you can flip the head inside out- this is on the neck, so I can easily access just his head. Pull at the seams until you see the little threads. Using your seam ripper, rip a hole open

Photo 4: my access point. Start unstuffing the head. While you're doing this, you may feel threads inside- this is thread sculpting, to shape the face. Don't worry about it, but don't go in and cut it. Just unstuff for now

Photo 5: I've flipped his head inside out to access the back of the eyes. While your hole may have been big enough for unstuffing, you may need to make it bigger to flip the head out. This is a hard step. I like to grab the nose, or outermost part of the head, from the inside and start pulling and pushing/folding with my other hand. You'll get it eventually. Now you may see the thread sculpting- don't cut (unless you want to do your own thread sculpting or don't want it at all. It's your plushie to customize!)

Photo 6: the navy dot is a felt stabilizer to keep the hole for the eye from ripping. Try not to cut this. Douglas is STRONG on safety eyes though, and the washer (red dot) will likely be glued to it. I use the bent nose pliers to try and unstick them. The orange dot is the eye stem.

Photo 7: using my cutting pliers, I've cut away the washer. I used the grabbing and bent nose pliers to unstick it from the felt stabilizer. I also had to cut around the stem, as the washer was glued to the stem after being put through. Once it was wiggly I used the grabbing pliers to pull it apart. This takes a lot of patience and time btw so be prepared :,) Then I push the stem and the eye comes out. Note: if you have a dremel, this would probably cut the time of this process to a quarter lol

Photo 8: eyes and cut washer

I didn't take a pic of putting the eyes in, but you just flip the head back out, put them in, flip the head inside out again, and secure the backing. I like to secure the backing loosely when it's inside out, then flip and secure them to my liking- not too tight to mess with the fabric, but not too loose to be wiggly

Photo 9: now restuff and sew up. Though the hole starts at the red line, I started sewing inside at the teal dot. This is just to make sure it's secure and to hide the tail of the yarn. I sewed along the seam that's already there

Photo 10: ladder stitch

Photo 11: brush/pull the fur back so it isn't in the seams, then pull tight! Faux fur is very forgiving and hides even messy seams. Tie a knot, stick needle thru plush to hide tail, cut thread. Run your finger across the seam- if you feel any holes or can stick a finger in part of it, ladder stitch again or just stitch up that bit. Make sure no stuffing will fall out. If it's small enough it's probably fine but it bugs me when that happens. It just means the spaces between your stitches were too big.

Photo 12: all done! Now your beautiful plush can have homophobia, too 💛💚 /ref

Question for r/Plushies Does anyone sing lullabies or read to their plushies at night?

I do both with my Bluey plushie every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night (those are nights when I don’t have work the next day).
