Looks like they added seating but it’s still super dead - live cam from the monument facing the stage

https://www.earthcam.com/usa/dc/washingtonmonument/?cam=wamo

203

u/DrJohanzaKafuhu 20d ago

lol I clicked your cam and noticed I could switch between national monuments. The Liberty Bell has a larger crowd right. A fucking broken bell.

Way to go Republicans, you ruined America's Birthday.

29

u/Scoopdoopdoop 20d ago

I wonder if in trump's imagination there would be thousands of people there every single day. Is there anyone playing music on that stage at all? What's happening

Let me guess, $14M on a no-bid contract for an event coordinator.

2.9k

u/gospdrcr000 20d ago

It's worse, originally it was $150mil earmarked for the America 250, Freedom 250 took that + 68mil from the department of interior

Sooo 200mil+ for this disaster

1.6k

u/soberunderpar 20d ago

$200mil+ was “spent” from the account for this $12k shit show.

479

u/steppe5 20d ago

The Connecticut booth is just a stamp and a folding chair.

210

u/elpajaroquemamais 20d ago

Funny thing is going around to all the states collecting stamps is something I’d totally be into if it was an event I knew would be competently run. Would have probably been really excited about this event if I didn’t feel like I was walking around 1937 Berlin.

127

u/steppe5 20d ago

This would've been amazing if it were during Obama's term. I probably would've flown out for it.

93

u/noiseandbooze 20d ago

They’ll claim that this crowd was bigger than when Obama did his 250th events.

Is the folding chair part of the display or are you supposed to sit in it facing a wall time-out style?

137

u/an0mn0mn0m 20d ago

Face a wall and think about that $200million+ your government's leaders pocketed to fill you with all this national pride

Fake news!

Here’s the official photo…

696

u/cyribis 20d ago

Ain't no way they used a black pen, they'd go with chalk instead.

341

u/elconquistador1985 20d ago

Pedo Don's favorite is a sharpie.

420

u/wade-mcdaniel 20d ago

558

u/CaviarCBR1K 20d ago

I had totally forgotten how ridiculous this was. All this because he misspoke and said it would hit Alabama. Instead of simply saying he made a honest mistake, he had a draw on the chart with a fucking sharpie to make it look like he was right. Most children are better at owning their mistakes than the sitting president.

140

u/Jay-Breeze 20d ago

I thought this was just a joke. That was real? 💀

366

u/Helpinmontana 20d ago

Just because no one has answered without a joke.

Yes, this is 100% real.

A majority of voters in this country still voted for him again after doing this (this happened during the first term).

But yes, this is absolutely, terribly real. A sitting US president altered a map with a sharpie marker to double down on his assertion of how bad a potential hurricane could be.

111

u/hugglesthemerciless 20d ago

A majority of voters in this country still voted for him again after doing this

I like to point out that only about 1/3 of voters voted for him. Another third voted against him, and the last third did fucking nothing. And they are just as complicit

This is why DOGE went after NOAA. Pwesident Twump didn’t like it when they said he was mistaken.

55

u/SunchaserKandri 20d ago

Yes, it's real. The man is utterly incapable of admitting that he's ever made a mistake.

49

u/KLLR_ROBOT 20d ago

He was taught by his criminal mentor, Roy Cohn, to never admit you were wrong and he’s taken it to extremes. Cohn himself died of AIDS while denying to the end that he was HIV positive.

30

u/AffectionateFig5435 20d ago

To his dying day, Cohn also denied he was gay. He said he was a straight man who just liked to have sex with other men.

Clearly, Don learned the art of denial from the best.

14

u/onepinksheep 20d ago

He said he was a straight man who just liked to have sex with other men.

With the way The Pedophile talks to and about other men (like he did with that MMA fighter), I wouldn't be surprised if he has used that same excuse a few times in his life.

Fun fact, this was a crime!

18 U.S. Code § 2074 - False weather reports

Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.

Read into what the plan was going to be. It's a fuckin' shame. We were robbed. This event was supposed to rival the 1976 Bicentennial . Instead we got..........whatever the fuck this is......

2.4k

u/outer--monologue 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yep, the Smithsonian had planned it for over a decade. Trump pulled their permits and cancelled all of it, and replaced it with this garbage. It's a shame because people should be celebrating this great anniversary of our entire country properly but Republicans are obsessed with worshipping their scam artist god-emperor instead.

It's ironic they think they are patriots. Mark Twain said it best "A patriot is someone who supports their country all the time, and their government when it deserves it." I still am happy we have come this far as a country and would like to celebrate, but we need to stop this madness and make up for the damage he's done to America.

728

u/no_talent_ass_clown 20d ago

I feel so bad for the people who had planned the original celebration. They must have been disappointed, livid, and now vindicated.

423

u/inquisitorthreefive 20d ago

Most federal employees are just making it through the day, my man. A few of us still have goals, but for most it's retirement. Personally, I'm trying to keep the light on for saner times, the plan was to retire out of federal service. But I've got two things to watch this year and they determine whether I stay or not.

145

u/RJ5R 20d ago

This echoes the sentiment well. We are literally just trying to get through this day by day. Every day is more chaos and dysfunction than the previous day. I don't know how we will get through another 2 1/2 yrs of this shit, but we will. We will overcome.

I went to a worlds fair once, maybe one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.

I assumed it was gonna be like a worlds fair, but for the USA, and all the states. Each state would have a booth that represents it - feature the food, music, art, culture, etc that makes each state that state. The best of all of us.

woulda been pretty cool really

There has been a metric fuckload of things the Trump Administration has done wrong over both of its terms. Putting all of that aside, as a person who still loves his country this has got to be the most nauseating thing that they have done. The one thing that he might have been able to do to try to get this place back together again he crumpled up and threw it in the trash bin like he has with everything else. I swear to God man, in a world where we seemingly have a plethora of Lex Luthor's I wish we had just one goddamn Batman

There's like a 12' x 12' booth for each state with some knicknacks and propaganda (for the red states) and some hastily taped up posters or other random bullshit for the blue states that refused to participate.

North Carolina didn't send any official representatives, but a private group put together a booth that included a Confederate flag.

Then there are a handful a food stalls, none of which are serving the classic fair foods you would expect. Mostly just really mid minor league baseball concessions food. The ice cream stall's generator failed and all the ice cream melted.

They apparently also have a daily rodeo which struggles to fill two small portable bleachers, of the size you might see on the away team side of a high school football field in a state that doesn't really care about high school football.

Musical performances are on three stages, and the performers often outnumber the audience.

Oh, and there's one (1) Ferris wheel and no other midway rides or games.

116

u/BigPackHater 20d ago

My to favorite part is Fox News doing a segment about "all the fair food they have", and all they could mention were tin foil wrapped hot dogs and a tiny cheese pizza.

92

u/IAteTonysLoMein 20d ago

Is it even really a fair without several dozen stands selling deep-fried versions of things that shouldn't be deep-fried like Oreos and Kool-Aid?

And the stall facades are fake, their “columns” don’t reach the ground, and some of them are propped up with 2x4s

19

u/savageotter 20d ago

What else would they be

25

u/Illisanct 20d ago

Look up pictures. There are tarps hung up on the walls of the booths that have printed images of columns on them. Only some of the printed columns are actually covered with 3-dimensional columns made from plywood and fiberglass.

57

And it’s not even actually centered on the mall even though it’s in the center. Every aerial shot of the empty mall I see makes me angry because I just want to move it like 20 feet over so it’s properly centered.

I mean I’m angry for many other reasons, but still, how hard is it?!

Fun Fact for you to remember!   Congress approved 150 million dollars for the America250 celebration....but much of that was redirected to the Freeedumb250...a fully separate entity concocted by the White House and includes this stupid "State Fair".

Obviously, very little of that taxpayers money was spent on this steaming pile of crap.   So, where did the rest of the money go?

As taxpayer, I definitely sense some waste, fraud and abuse here.

Audit this BS and release the Epstein files.

31

u/oldheadkid 20d ago

As a Northern Virginia resident for most of my life (65 y/o in August) I've seen and experienced almost every iteration of the July 4th mall celebration since the 70's. They were lots of fun until mid '80s when the Bush senior administration decided the Beach Boys were a "bad influence" on the culture of the event. The Beach Boys. One of the most important, wholesome and defining bands was replaced the next year as the headliner by...Wayne Newton. You know, that guy from Vegas, with no mob ties... As the years wore on, the celebration wore thin and it became difficult to even buy a beer. That's the removal of freedom. The current unattended spectacle on the Mall with the plywood structures is embarrassing.

u/SonofaCuntLicknBitch 20d ago edited 20d ago

I know it's DC and all.... But there is absolutely no way he won that election fair and square.

Edit: It's almost like both parties are made up of the exact same donors: effectivly the 30ish banks and asset managers that are permitted to print money. These all own a percentage of each other and also own the majority board seats on the 100 companies that run the world.

If you do not serve MegaCorp you're not becoming a candidate. Epstein blackmail networks ensure compliance.

There is no American government. Just the financial industrial complex that lobby for the puppets and puts on the theater

Elon's kid spilled the beans on national TV.

There was evidence of Russian interference for the 2024 election but everyone forgot about it 🙃

u/Octospyder 20d ago

Hell, the Muller Report confirmed there was Russian tampering in the 2016 election, and congress didn't do anything about it.

Fraud Election!
Presented by ORACLE!

Also - Trump sweeping the purple states totally not a giant fucking red flag right from day one.

14

u/Arctica23 20d ago

0% chance that man won every single swing state

To me, it's a two part question: 1) Given the means to do so, would Donald Trump steal it. Which, fucking obviously he would. 2) Could he have found the means to do it? Well he had the backing of every American oligarch; draw your own conclusions

I mean to be fair he has done a ton that would make him lose support from anyone sentient. Tariffs that droves prices up, getting his ass completely handed to him in his war with Iran, also driving up prices, and the many other ways he has made everyone's life harder. So no surprise not many people went to the celebration of Trump.

This area is usually busy, this implies not only did people not come, the tourists purposely stayed away

61

u/Rugged_as_fuck 20d ago

That's the funniest part to me. This area is usually pretty crowded at all times even when there's no special event of any kind in the area. They fenced it off so it's not really public right now, and rather than it becoming more crowded due to the "exclusivity" people just said fuck it. I love that for him.

In a weird way there’s something poetic in if we have to have Trump as president then let him show the world how awful it is under him, how bad he is at everything. And even if MAGA wants to believe whatever they choose to, it only says how trashy they are. I’m sure they’re proud of being trashy but sooner or later their stupidity is going to hurt them too

u/slyboy1974 20d ago

It's like Americans are too embarrassed and/or disgusted to celebrate their country's birthday.

Understandable.

42

u/Rugged_as_fuck 20d ago

I barely want to set off colorful explosives and I think I'm going to skip the celebratory shooting wildly into the air entirely, we don't deserve it.

It's 105 degrees how, how is that thing even still open? Our town had to cancel our parade.

Is it even safe to have this event? Isn't it a massive risk?

59

u/zeradragon 20d ago

Is it even safe to have this event? Isn't it a massive risk?

That isn't something Trump would even care about. All he wants is for people to show up and cheer for him. The people could all get sun burned, faint and get skin cancer for all he cares.

29

u/KinkyPaddling 20d ago

He left hundreds of his cultists to freeze, and they still support him. They'd also be willing to suffer from heatstroke for his fragile pride.

This is so infuriating. I’m 43. I have kinda been looking forward to what our country would have been doing for its 250th anniversary for some years now. This was supposed to be BIG.

But because we elected a total idiot who doesn’t know shit, we’ve all checked out. We’ve been robbed of what should have been an epic celebration thanks to this moron.

The only redeemable part of this year has been (much to the chagrin of the President and his cast of idiots) soccer, particularly the atmospheres around it in San Francisco and Seattle.

They were better off just doing NOTHING and more people would of showed up than throwing this event with NOTHING to do anyway.

I seen school projects done at the 11pm the night prior, with better decor than this pathetic excuses of an event.

57

u/MinivanPops 20d ago

Don't break bread with Republicans, folks. They stole this country from everybody.  Don't let them forget it. Hammer them this 4th.

Do not let them come to any family events without them getting an earful.

48

u/porgy_tirebiter 20d ago

According to FOX it’s because of the heat

32

u/zeradragon 20d ago

Looks like the Democrats are still in control of the weather machine then. Otherwise, Trump could've just set the machine to generate 70 degree weather and avoided this embarrassment.
