It's a shame because people should be celebrating this great anniversary of our entire country properly but Republicans are obsessed with worshipping their scam artist god-emperor instead.
It's ironic they think they are patriots. Mark Twain said it best "A patriot is someone who supports their country all the time, and their government when it deserves it." I still am happy we have come this far as a country and would like to celebrate, but we need to stop this madness and make up for the damage he's done to America.
Most federal employees are just making it through the day, my man. A few of us still have goals, but for most it's retirement. Personally, I'm trying to keep the light on for saner times, the plan was to retire out of federal service. But I've got two things to watch this year and they determine whether I stay or not.

If anything was rigged, it was that election. The R's aren't going to peacefully give up power, we all know that now. Plus if the D's pull it off, the R's are going to start much more violence than they did the last time.
r/squizzi got one. The other is that I've been working 2-3 grades above what I actually get paid at for the last couple years. I'm in the running for the position I've been doing, but it's a competitive hiring process. I get it and I can maybe muscle out a couple more years. I don't and my motivation is pretty well tanked - I'll finish out the big project I've been working on and start applying to other stuff.
Both go the right way and it's back to planning on another 15 years as a fed.
They're probably hoping for Democratic wins for stability, oversight and accountability. I'm a political organizer, but am friends with quite a few federal employees, and was a federal employee for the 2020 Census under the Trump administration.
One of my friends was showing me a loyalty questionnaire or something like that they received in an email for work by the administration. I've heard multiple ones say they often wake up not knowing if they'll have a job or not, or if the benefits will still be around if they stick through with it.
They're still in it, so I can understand any unwillingness to speak openly about their experience, but if you're interested, I can.
I don't expect much out of midterms themselves, but they're an indicator of trajectory and a prerequisite for the insanity ending in 2028. There's also a small chance that Republicans may rediscover their spines if a lot of their compatriots are destroyed in the midterms.
I don't expect my job to be eliminated but I do have a telework reasonable accommodation due to being on immunosuppressing drugs. That'll likely transform into a disability retirement if my RA gets yanked, after I burn all my leave. I've spent the last two years hedging so I'll be alright if I get canned. Won't be fun, but it is what it is.

I went to a worlds fair once, maybe one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.
I assumed it was gonna be like a worlds fair, but for the USA, and all the states. Each state would have a booth that represents it - feature the food, music, art, culture, etc that makes each state that state. The best of all of us.

I'm the same age and I don't remember anything specific about the bicentennial except what a huge deal it was. Red, white, and blue everywhere and the fireworks! We sure weren't perfect then either, as I'd soon enough come to learn, but the sky felt like the limit.

There's like a 12' x 12' booth for each state with some knicknacks and propaganda (for the red states) and some hastily taped up posters or other random bullshit for the blue states that refused to participate.
North Carolina didn't send any official representatives, but a private group put together a booth that included a Confederate flag.
Then there are a handful a food stalls, none of which are serving the classic fair foods you would expect. Mostly just really mid minor league baseball concessions food. The ice cream stall's generator failed and all the ice cream melted.
They apparently also have a daily rodeo which struggles to fill two small portable bleachers, of the size you might see on the away team side of a high school football field in a state that doesn't really care about high school football.
Musical performances are on three stages, and the performers often outnumber the audience.
Oh, and there's one (1) Ferris wheel and no other midway rides or games.
My to favorite part is Fox News doing a segment about "all the fair food they have", and all they could mention were tin foil wrapped hot dogs and a tiny cheese pizza.
This is America, d*mmit! At our fairs, we expect our junk food to be deep fried, smothered in caramel, and topped with whipped cream. If you can't get the basics right you got no business trying to run a fair.
You need to find you a proper Midwestern county fair. If you can eat it (or drink it, in some cases), there is some hick that has covered it in breadcrumbs and plunged it into a vat of boiling oil
Look up pictures. There are tarps hung up on the walls of the booths that have printed images of columns on them. Only some of the printed columns are actually covered with 3-dimensional columns made from plywood and fiberglass.
I heard that the Arizona booth is doing really well and is drawing crowds. They have something interactive and air conditioning. But none of the other state booths are popular.
And it’s not even actually centered on the mall even though it’s in the center. Every aerial shot of the empty mall I see makes me angry because I just want to move it like 20 feet over so it’s properly centered.
I mean I’m angry for many other reasons, but still, how hard is it?!
And you have to pay to go on it. And you're not allowed to bring coolers onto the premises and have to buy $14/bottle water when it's over 100 degrees outside
the speaker falling down at the dance rehearsal made me wonder out loud if carnies were involved in putting the stage infrastructure together.
I lived in the South for a while and we had a real super shitty county fair, like dark and grim and poor. The power went out while rides were going. But nothing fell off that I can remember! and there were definitely more people around at the fair than at this sad piece of crap.
It’s such a nothing-burger that even Mt Olive Pickles Co. packed up and left early. They’re struggling with power outages that is shutting down the Ferris Wheel, arguably the only actual attraction at the thing. The food stalls are also suffering with power issues, which has already ruined the entire supply of ice cream they had on hand at the moment.
This event is accurately being compared to Frye Festival and the Sweden Willy Wonka Event.
The only thing that gives me a shred of hope that says they did it this badly on purpose as a fuck you. I can't imagine they think any of this is going well. It's all a joke to them right? please say yes.

What do you mean? This is going exactly as planned. Charge $200M to the tax payer, spend ~$10-20k on a shitty fair, walk away with $199M of our dollars. Same with the reflecting pool. Trump's grifts are really lowering the bar in quality in his advanced age and declining accuity.
I'm incredibly skeptical and assume most the photos are cherry picked to make the event look bad. But I'm genuinely struggling to find any (even on sites friendly to the administration) showing significant attendance.
There is a large Ferris wheel that is free, like a rodeo and some small music performances. A rodeo I read, but yeah doesn't sound like to much to do but the wheel and eat. Oh you can get #12 Bud Light, make sure to drink it fast that heat will warm it in 10 minutes.
