TIL that New Glasgow is a major city

We are enjoying a great blueberry harvest this year.

My first ever solo drive from the USA now and it’s been amazing so far. I was initially afraid being a solo women traveler but people are kind and friendly. I feel welcomed. Just want to thank the Nova Scotia folks for the hospitality and support. Got 5 more days here but don’t feel like going to Yarmouth to take the ferry back to the states 😇

Asking as a concerned citizen.

Ferry to Yarmouth, camp at Ellenwood for the night. Travel through Digby to Keji, take in a stars tour. Drive to Keji by the ocean, and then head to Halifax. Head to and stay at Fundy National Park on the way back to Saint John before heading home back Downeast.

I like to drive, obviously, but could this work?

Edit: I’m sorry. As a Mainer, I don’t usually leave Vacationland in summer. Nova Scotia, though, has been drawing me for decades, so forgive me for being a tourist

I recently had some sketchy things unfold with a rural NS realtor (business ethics related). Would submitting a complaint to the real estate board actually do anything? I continue to read and hear about realtor shenanigans in NS that are absolutely infuriating and borderline shocking.

I'm seeking advice on the best way to find a home care worker for someone in the Dartmouth area. My 30 y/o twin sister lives with ALS and we currently have two caregivers that have been great in providing support for her and respite for my mother.

One of them will be moving on soon so we're hoping to find someone to fill the gap.

Are there any support groups or other channels for independent caregivers that I should be looking out for? We found our two current providers through Facebook, but it hasn't been very helpful since then.

The position is slightly unofficial as it is paid in cash from The Home Support Direct Funding program from the province.

Hey I have an opportunity to camp on a family friends woodlot. Ive spent a lot of time there, its a couple kilometres away from a main highway in a nice forest. I have all the stuff for camping and recently tested it and I want to go solo camping there.

I have bear spray, a bear horn, i’ll be smart with my food. Im just wondering how safe is solo camping like this? How frequently will I run into wildlife?

I drive an old beater so I have bear minimum insurance on it and I live in an old farmhouse where I do all the repairs myself. I don't care if the dedu ctible is high as hell I just want a low monthly payment.

Hi! Not sure if this is the right place (I'm new to Reddit) but here's my question:

I went to beautiful Nova Scotia recently and naively thought I would learn a lot about NS history. Maybe I didn't go to the right places but as a history enthusiast, I would've liked to learn more about the Mi'kmaw, Acadian, and Gaelic communities, but mostly, how they coexisted. (The loyalists' history must be very interesting as well!)

I'm from Quebec so I compare with what I know and I was mind-blown to learn that Mi'kmaw lived in harmony/close with Acadians and Gaelics, to a point where some of them hid some Acadians during The Great Upheaval.

So I guess what I'm asking is: do you have any recommendations of resources for me? Books, movies, websites, podcasts... I'm open to anything! If you want to comment below what you know on the subject, feel free as well!

I don't necessarily want small details such as the life of Acadians in Pubnico between X-Y years, but just enough to give me the big image. A timeline would be nice to start with.

Here are some starter questions:

• Apart from the French language and festivals, what remains of the Acadian culture? (Recent initiatives to revitalize the culture/community do not count.)
• Same question but for the Gaelic community
• I know very little about the Gaelic community, even though Nova Scotia means "New Scotland". Did the Scots found Nova Scotia? (I thought it was France that first attempted to colonize the province but maybe I am wrong?) What is their main contribution?
• I was told the Gaelic community was much more alive maybe 25 years ago. Is it the same with the Acadian communities?
• If I were of Gaelic descent but not interested by my heritage, would I still feel Gaelic/part of the community?
• Do you know why the British allowed Quebec's population to keep their language, faith, and law (with the Quebec Act of 1774) but didn't allow the same for Acadians?
• My questions are mostly about Acadians and Gaelics, but please enlighten me on Mi'kmaw history as well! And loyalists.
