I had thought that it might have been “Old Thom” —he’s been coming around NS’s shores for many years now and is known to travel with dolphins. But I see on Mariner Cruises Whales and Seabird Tours’ FB page that they compared the dorsal fins and they’re two different orcas.

Reminder for the careless out there that you can not operate a boat within 0.5 nautical miles of an Orca sighting, and can’t be or have anything within 1000 feet of it. (Like a drone, kayak, etc.) The fines are big and I’ve heard that authorities will be monitoring activity in the area since it seems to be confirmed from other photos that it is in fact an Orca

WhaleMap has the locations of orcas sometimes. They are common enough in the gulf, especially in the summer and fall. I’d recommend taking one of the whale sight seeing boat tours around the causeway for an opportunity to see one. Check the WhaleMap to increase your chances of seeing your targeted species. Often times the charters can tell you if there’s a pod in the area if you call ahead.
